Review and Giveaway: Finding Faith by Tabatha Vargo

Finn and Faith come from opposite ends of the earth.  Finn is a tattooed member of a band, whereas Faith is the daughter of a preacher and still wears lacy socks.  Faith is very naïve when it comes to the opposite sex and it is safe to assume that Finn knows his ways around a woman’s body pretty well.  They couldn’t be more different than each other but find themselves in the same place…the back pew at church.  Finn is performing community service at Faith’s church and he needs to attend services in order to receive credit for his hours.  Even though Faith claims she’d prefer a nice, clean guy, there’s no denying that she is attracted to Finn because he makes her feel alive. 

 

Maybe I wasn’t as wholesome and good as Daddy said I was.  Maybe was more sinner than I realized and maybe I liked being that way.

 

Faith is under very strict rules in her home so that she doesn’t fall prey to any sins lurking outside the walls of her home.  Faith begins to rebel a little and this makes her father very angry.  Her father doesn’t like Faith to disobey him and he likes to make certain that Faith will follow his rules or there will be severe punishment to follow.  Being with Finn is does not meet with her father’s approval and sneaking visits here and there is all that can be allowed for Finn and Faith.

 

It was more than obvious that I was falling for Finn.  I might have already fallen, except I had no idea what it felt like to be in love with someone.  I just knew that everything about him made me smile and every time I was with him, life felt tolerable—better even. 

 

Finn is being raised by a single mother who adopted Finn after he had been through several foster homes.  His mother is ill and he needs to be there for her as she depends on him.  Finn has a lot of responsibilities at such a young age and in fact he should be a senior in high school, but he dropped out in order to be available for his mother.  Finn’s source of income is selling drugs.  His passion belongs to his music and he is devoted to his band mates.   Finn is a good guy, but is stuck in his life with no sign of moving forward.

 

Events out of their control begin to happen and suddenly they are thrust apart.  It appears as if there will be no happy ending for Finn and Faith.  In fact, life for Faith gets even worse.

 

…and before I knew it, I was kicked out in a strange state with no one to turn to and nowhere to go.

 

Life has a way of kicking us hard when we’re down.  Faith has had her hardships in her young years, but nothing can prepare herself for the coldness that is now Finn.

 

“You didn’t wound me; you killed me.  You murdered the boy I used to be in his sleep and he’s never coming back.  All that’s left of that boy is me, and all you’ll ever get from me is a quickie and a door in your face.”

 

OUCH!!!  Those words are vicious. Let’s hope they can forgive each other as not everything is what it appears.  I found the first half of the book to be a slow read, but once the events that would change their lives began to transpire, the book suddenly picked up its pace.  As with the female character in her previous novel in the Blow Hole series (Playing Patience), the author gave us a female lead character that by appearances seems to live the perfect life but behind the closed doors is a monster waiting to attack.  The emotional abuse gives the character a chance to become stronger and independent.  I found that although Faith was innocent and naïve, it was because of her strength that grew  from the emotional hardships that she could endure whatever was thrown at her feet.   There will be 3 more books in this series and I am looking forward to each of them.
