Blog Tour: Until You by Penelope Douglas

Title: Until You
Series: A Fall Away Novel, Book #1.5
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date:  December 5, 2013
Tour Organized by: As the Pages Turn

SYNOPSIS:
***This novel contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or so numb that you actually felt high? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between.

Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don't care about anything or anyone.

Except Tatum.

I love her so much that I hate her. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn't trust her or anyone else.

So I hurt her. I pushed her away.

But I still need her. The sight of her centers me, and I can pool all of my anger into her. Engaging her, challenging her, bullying her...they are my food, my air, and the last part of me that feels anything human.

But she left. She went to France for a year, and came back a different girl.

Now, when I push, she pushes back.

5 star review by Lisa Kane

I didn't think I could love Until You as much as I loved Bully, and I was right-I loved it even more!

There is something to be said for getting inside Jared's head, why he thinks the way he does, why he treated Tate the way he did, why he has such self loathing. I had so many unanswered questions after Bully. All of the above ones and probably a half dozen more-why KC? and how far did he take things with her?  What were his relationships like with the masses of girls he messed around with and what was he thinking when Tate came back from France?

All my questions were answered and then some! In my mind I thought Jared could never fully redeem himself, but I must say, he sure goes a long way towards it! He is humble and remorseful and truly regretful for his actions. He is so possessive and yet protective of Tate.

When I thought about what Nate could've done to her-would've done to her-I wanted to kill.

Of course it takes a while for him to get to that place-this is Jared after all.

We see more of Tate's father in this book. What a wonderful man he is, and how lucky Jared is to have him in his life. Jax, Jared's brother, in spite of his horrific upbringing is funny and warm and has a great personality. (not sure if the clues I thought I picked up regarding his future love interest for his own story will be correct or not, but if so it will sure as hell be interesting!).

Once Jared admits his true feelings for Tate, it's game on!

I've been playing games with you for three years, Tatum. You don't get to run away anymore.

Tate has to learn to live with Jared's manwhore past and struggles with it.

You want to know everything? Then let me show you. Turn around, and bend over. (I had to gulp a large glass of ice water at this point)

Of course after reading Bully we know that Piper and Nate created total havoc. Reading Jared's reactions to the maelstrom around him made my heart break for him.

Because it's yours and mine, and no one takes this from us. Not even me.

There is something that happens at the very end of the story, that almost seems out of character for Jared and it is downright (dare I use the word?)swoon worthy!

I'll do anything to be good for you, Tate. (my heart skipped a little here)

Until You is all I hoped it would be-how I adore this couple. They aren't perfect, they aren't really even whole, but together they fit like pieces of a jigsaw and somehow they complete each other.

You own me body and soul, and everyone is going to know it.

Character Interview with Tate and Jared from Until You

Three Chicks:  Tate, you and Jared had an amazing relationship when you were younger, why didn't you push him to tell you why things changed so much when he came back after the summer with his father?

Tate:  At first, I did. I tried to talk to him, but he would barely even look at me let alone speak to me. After a while, I let my pride get in the way. If he didn’t want me around, then I wasn’t going to grovel type of thing.

Three Chicks:  Jared, did you ever want to confide in Madoc’s father about your secrets, especially when the judge forced you to visit your father every week?

Jared:  Madoc’s father? No, we’re not close, and I don’t tell people my business. Tate’s father, maybe. But still, the idea of anyone having a pity party over me is hard to take.

Three Chicks:  Tate, do you understand better how your monologue was probably the first time he realized just how much his actions had hurt you?

Tate:  If I had done the monologue any other time, it may not have worked. Jared and I, I think, reached a point senior year when we were weighed down by hate and anger, by an ocean of things not said, and it was perfect timing, I guess. I pushed my pride to the side, and he was ready to let go of the baggage.

Three Chicks:  Jared, I don’t think most Bully readers realized the extent of the damage your father did to you and how much it screwed you up. Seeing how tormented you were over it in Until You was heart breaking. Have you shared most of the details with Tate of that summer? If not- do you think you will ever tell her or your mom or Madoc?

Jared:  I’ve shared some things with Tate. I am more comfortable with her than anyone, and I want her to know me again. She knows the worst, but I don’t want to give that man any more time. I’ve wasted enough. My mom, maybe. But I appreciate that Madoc is the one person close to me that doesn’t know that stuff. We’re normal, and our friendship is easy. I need that.

Three Chicks:  Jared, when the counselor at your school told you that maybe a career as a youth counselor might be an option for you, you couldn’t believe it. But after what you did for Tate in front of your whole school in assembly, that doesn’t seem so far- fetched. Can you see that for yourself?

Jared:  We’ll see if I can keep myself out of trouble long enough to think about it.

Three Chicks:  Tate, we know your feelings about most things from Bully, but the events in Until You ended a little later. Tell us what you were feeling when the second video, the one with Nate, started to circulate? Why were you so furious with Jared? Were you a little insecure that KC had been with him the night before?

Tate:  I was aggravated, because I should’ve been there. I was tired of feeling like I was on the outside with Jared. There was a time when he always wanted me with him. Why the hell didn’t he take me? You know? And then I found out about K.C. being there, and yeah, I was mad! It’s not that I didn’t trust Jared, but I hated being ignorant of what went down. And I hated my so-called “friend” for being there with him when K.C. and I aren’t on solid ground right now.

Three Chicks:  Jared, do you think you really understand why Tate was so upset about the second video?

Jared:  That’s why Madoc is great. He’s good at spoon feeding me the ton of crap I don’t get.

Three Chicks:  How pissed were the two of you at Jax when you saw him after he let the Nate video go viral?

Tate: Not at all. I should’ve known.

Jared: I don’t get mad at Jax.

Three Chicks:  Jared, did you ever tell Tate the whole truth about KC or are you waiting for her to tell Tate herself?

Jared:  Tate knows that not a damn thing happened with K.C. and me, and she already knew K.C. was using me as much as I used her. I’ll leave the rest to K.C.

Three Chicks:  Tate, so how is racing at the Loop going? Have any wins under your belt?

Tate:  First race coming up actually. We had a lot more modifications on my car than originally planned. Should be a hot, exciting summer!

Three Chicks:  Tate, what were you thinking when Jared was speaking at the Bully assembly?

Tate:  That I could listen to him forever. That I love and hate how he can tear me apart and build me back up with a word and a look. One person shouldn’t have that kind of power, but I know I do the same for him.

Three Chicks:  Jared, what you did at the Bully assembly, seems a little out of character for you. What made you put yourself and all your feelings out there for the entire student body to witness?

Jared:  Tate needed to see that I did NOT care about keeping up a façade when it came to her. If she needed to see me put myself on the line just like she did with the monologue then I would do it without another thought.

Three Chicks:  How do you think Jax was affected by his horrible childhood? First his father’s abuse and then being moved around from foster home to foster home? How do you help him to cope with all of that?

Jared: I don’t really. He knows I’m here for him, but Jax shrugs off any attempt to talk about the past. He doesn’t want to go there, and neither do I really. He appears very happy, and he has no problem getting close to people, because they’ll never truly make it to the inside with him. There’s a barrier that no one crosses. When you ask something he doesn’t want to answer, he ignores you. My brother copes. I just don’t know how.

Three Chicks:  Jared, we know you were Tate’s first lover, and we are willing to bet she will be your last, but what was your first experience like?

Jared:  Whoa, that’s personal. Uh, well, I guess it sucked. Now, with Tate, everything else and everyone else can’t even come close to comparing what I have with her.

Three Chicks:  Tate, how hard is it living with knowing some of the things that happened to Jared during the summer with his father-how do you try to help him to live with it, and to try to move on from it as best as he can?

Tate:  I wish Jared would go see him again. For closure. I don’t feel like that ship has sailed yet, but on the other hand, Thomas Trent essentially took a lot of years from Jared and I. Why would we want to give him anymore?

Three Chicks:  Jared, I know you can’t wish your past away, and you must have tons of regret. Think there will come a time when you don’t worry how Tate will react when she is confronted with one of the girls you hooked up with or you won’t feel as guilty for things you can’t change?

Jared:  We’ll get past it. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that shit changes and time moves on.

Three Chicks:  Tate, is it easier to handle running into one of Jared’s past hook ups now that you are a little more secure or does it still sting as much?

Tate:  Oh, yeah. I trust him there, and as long as the girls behave, we have no problems.

Three Chicks:  Jared, what if Ben and Tate had started seriously dated, do you think you would have just let them alone and figured she deserved to be happy with another guy or would you have interfered or told her how you felt?

Jared:  “Let them alone?” Yeah, no. There’s no way. I can’t say I would’ve handled it well, but I would’ve handled it.

Three Chicks:  Tate, have you been accepted at Columbia? How do you think you will make out without Jared if he doesn’t move along with you? Are you still planning on pre-med-that’s a lot of years of school, how do you think your relationship can withstand all that time and dedication you will need to focus on for med school?

Tate:  Yes, I’ve been accepted at Columbia, and Jared is still making decisions. We know we have a long road ahead, but we’ve been through so much, I think we’re pretty damn strong.

Three Chicks:  Jared, you seem to be undecided about college, but do you really see yourself living in one state while Tate is living in New York without you?

Jared:  Tate’s never without me.

Three Chicks:  Jared, if you were to move away from the area to be closer to Tate for school-how do you think Madoc would make out? He might be a wise ass, but you two have a pretty strong friendship and you are basically his family considering he isn’t really close to either of his parents.

Jared:  Things are going to change. We can be happy about it or not, but we can’t stop it.

Three Chicks:  So what can you tell us about the time frame in Rival, we know it begins right after graduation, but does it end in the summer or we will see some of college for you?

It will take place the summer after graduation, so bring some ice. Hot times ahead!
