Review and Giveaway: More Than Him by Jay McLean

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us." - Marianne Williamson

We live in a world of darkness and shadows,
where monsters hide and aim to ruin.
And they did.
They ruined us and turned our dreams into nightmares.
But now we're back.
And we're fighting.
Not just for us, or for each other, but for our light.

When Logan left her, Amanda was distraught and immensely hurt. She tries to move on but almost every thought she has is consumed by Logan. She continues to visit Logan’s father, Alan, just so she can feel close to him.  With the help of her brother and a few close friends Amanda is able to get on with a semblance of a normal life, but she is still nowhere near being happy. Then suddenly one day there he is standing across the room from her at a house party. He’s back and for Amanda time stops and every moment they spent together comes rushing back to her in a powerful wave.

“I knew it then-how much trouble I was in. Because Logan – he still had that power over me.”

After the night Amanda and Logan were attacked, he couldn’t bear the guilt over what happened. He decided to join Doctors without Borders and has spent his time away from Amanda in third world countries helping the underprivileged. Although he’s the one who left, Logan can’t stand to be away from the girl he loves any longer. A few weeks after returning home the moment he’s been waiting for arrives; he sees Amanda. Seeing her again is like a breath of fresh air. Surprisingly she wants to see, to talk to him but it’s apparent that she is still very hurt and angry over the way he left. Logan knows he has to do everything in his power to show Amanda just how much he loves her.

“You meant the world to me. And if you didn’t know that- if you couldn’t see that- then that’s how I’ll start. Every day I’ll show you, and every day I’ll prove to you just how much you meant to me. How much you still mean to me.”

Logan hasn’t told anybody but his father and Amanda he is back home. Dealing with PTSD and anxiety he just wanted some time to himself to get acclimated back home. Now that he and Amanda are reconnected they are working on healing together and moving forward with their relationship. But they have some obstacles to overcome. Amanda’s brother is less than happy to see Logan again and shows him so with his fists. Once Logan’s friends find out he is home, they are hurt but understand.

“We got a lot of shit to work thorough.”

Yeah,” I agreed.

But once we do, we’re going to be amazing.”

Learning to trust again and moving on from the pain they both have suffered through is not easy for Logan and Amanda. They both have their own demons to face. They both make mistakes, but try their best to help each other heal. With the support of their family and friends they take steps to put the past behind them and move forward with their life together.

“In a life full of shadows, and darkness, and monsters, you’re my light. When the blackness fades, and the memories subside, you’ll be there. You’re always there.”

After reading More Than Her, I could not wait to get my greedy hands on the continuation of Logan and Amanda’s story!! I absolutely loved this! It was about second chances, forgiveness, love and healing. Love is not perfect but it is apparent that Logan and Amanda are perfect for each other. Logan and his tortured past has him feeling unworthy and I was so happy that Amanda was able to help him realize how very worthy of love he is. Amanda’s love for Logan never wavered, she loves him unconditionally, flaws and all. They complete each other. I was thrilled that there was no love triangle, or other unnecessary drama because it definitely wasn’t needed.  I absolutely adore ALL the secondary characters in this series. Cam and Lucy’s story is up next and I absolutely cannot wait for that, Lucy is definitely one of my favorite characters! Jay McLean you have definitely outdone yourself and I cannot wait to read whatever else you share with us!!

Two hearts can beat as one, even if they aren’t synced.”
