Review and Giveaway: Something Worth Fighting For by Ashley McNiel

After a rough past Ellie Grant now leads an easy life. Between school, work, and beach days with her loud mouth best friend Darcy, she keeps things simple. She never knew there was something missing until she found it.

When Marine Corps Sergeant Atlas Ryker walked into the diner that morning her world stopped and started spinning in the opposite direction. Falling in love is easy. Deployment is hard. Distance will mean nothing when someone means so much.

I really loved this book. I thought the plot was fantastic and the characters were well developed. Its starts off with Ellie working in a diner- and she looks up to see the hot as hell Atlas Ryker. I just loved him. He was a strong character and such an alpha protector. I mean duh, he is a marine. Ellie doesn’t really go for marines typically, because her brothers and father are all marines. She knew what kind of man Atlas was going into their relationship.

Their courtship is adorable. They were funny, and very relatable to real life. Their relationship did not move at a fast pace, like some books. It wasn’t too slow either- because Ryker was a marine he knew it was only a matter of time before he got deployed again.

All of the characters were well written. I enjoyed all of the secondary characters too.  Darcy was a great best friend to Ellie, and they were so cute together. I’m glad that Darcy was there for Ellie when Ryker went away. The characters were written in a way that made me want their stories too. The author made me shed some tears. It’s a military romance; I knew what was going to happen. Marines get hurt, marines die. Fact.

There were soooo many swoon moments too. Tears sprung to my eyes at the graduation scene. I wanted to jump into the book and watch everything unfold. There were scary moments too. But I knew Atlas would always come back.

The realistic feel of how families feel when loved ones are deployed made me physically hurt. Especially for Ellie and Ryker because I was so attached to them. The way they had to keep saying good-bye broke my heart over and over.

I highly recommend this book, just be prepared to feel a huge gamut of emotions.  You will laugh and cry- and everything in between. It was a sappy romance, the couple is so lovey dovey, but I need that kind of story. I read a lot of dark books, angsty books, mysterious books- and it’s nice to read a great love story. With a few elements of surprise- but otherwise a happily ever after and no cliffhanger.
