At the end of The Promise we were left with a heck of a cliffy! The Secret opens up in literally the same place as The Promise ended; Sophie is waking up from having fainted and Aunt Debbie is trying to calm her down. She thinks she dreamed seeing Jack again. As Aunt Debbie tries to break the news to her that Jack is indeed alive, she becomes more and more agitated. But Chase steps in, lets her see Jack and slowly she realizes that this is true-Jack is alive.

What a series of complications are now set into motion. Everyone is elated that Jack is alive-his sister Analise, his friends and family, and of course Sophie. He explains how he got separated from his unit after the IED explosion, and it took 2 long years to get back to friendly territory. Jack never imagined Sophie would move on with someone else.

"I would have waited forever, Jack," I manage through my tears and cracking voice. "I didn't know or I never would have left Camden. I never would have stopped waiting for you, Jack. Never."

Sophie is so torn-the first love of her life is alive and she is so happy but she feels so much guilt because his "death" changed her in so many ways. She is not the same person and she is very much in love with Chase. Chase is afraid, he knows how much Sophie loved Jack and thinks she will be breaking things off with him, now that he is back.

"Do you really want to know what I'm thinking, Baby?" he asks, making me nod. "I'm wondering how I'm going to survive it when you leave me, Sophie?" he finally admits, his perfect blue eyes filled with the pain I'm putting there. "How I'm going to get out of our bed every morning when you're not in it? Knowing that I lost you? What I could have done differently when I did everything right? How the f*#k am I supposed to breathe when my reason for breathing walks out that door?"

This story is told in alternating POV's, Sophie's, Chase's, Jack's, Ana's, and Drake's. Getting inside each of their heads lets you know where each of them stands; their fears, loves and inner thoughts. Most of this book centers on relationships-Sophie and Chase's, Sophie and Jack's, Drake and Ana's.

Sophie and Chase spend a good deal of time back in Sophie's old stomping grounds-Camden. She lets loose a little (maybe a lot) and she makes some stupid mistakes. Her mother is back in the picture and she is a repressed, opinionated, evil woman who brings out the insecure little girl in Sophie.

Chase has more patience for the back and forth between Sophie and Jack than most men would ever have-he is patient and supportive and actually goes beyond what should be expected from him because Sophie asks him to lend Jack a hand.

The secret that the title alludes to, is a doozy. Seems Jack and Sophie kept everyone in the dark and when it is revealed, there are hard, bitter feelings along with it. Sophie has had a lot of time to feel resentment and guilt and shame for things that were beyond her control. Now that Chase knows the truth, where does this leave them?

Analise and Drake are very much together, she is not happy with Sophie's treatment of her brother and the Dom in Drake must set her straight more than a few times. As close as these two are, there are some fundamental issues that they should have discussed well before now, and these are serious enough to make them question whether they would be holding the other back from living the life they desire.

"Can you live without Drake?" I ask her bluntly. "Think about it before you answer me." "No,' she admits. "I don't need to think about it. I don't think I could ever be with anyone else." "Then there's your answer," I shrug. "If you can't live without him, you have to accept all of him, even the parts you're not crazy about."

As with the two books that came before, this one also ends in a cliffy. I am anxiously awaiting the next and final book to this series!
