Title: Hourglass Squared
Authors: K.S. Smith & Megan C. Smith

3.75 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen
Brooke and Savannah are best friends who have withstood
the embarrassment and manipulation of a man who was dating both of them at the
same time. They are now married to twin
brothers and while one of them enjoys the fast-paced life of city living and
the pressures of a career, the other has only ever wanted to be married and
raise a family in the surburbs.
Brooke and Josh are so excited to share the news of their
pregnancy, while Jake is excited to think that he and Savannah could also be
ready to start a family. They were
married within one month of each other, so of course it would seem like a
natural progression for them to be pregnant at the same time. The best friends do everything together
(including dating the same guy…I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist throwing that
in again).
Savannah is not ready for children. She has a plan that does not include having
children before she is 30 years old.
Savannah is very determined that she will have the final say in this
discussion, but easy going Jake for once is standing his ground.
“You know what the
problem is with everything you’re saying?
It’s all about you. Not once have
you tried to see things from my point of view.
No, it’s Savannah’s way or the highway.”
Yay Jake! You
finally stood your ground!! Savannah is
very headstrong and a little on the controlling side, so it was nice to see
that Jake put her in her place, if only for a brief moment. Whether we like it or not, sometimes we don’t
get the final say in our destiny…sometimes fate determines our pathway in life.
“I just don’t get
it. This is not the plan I had in mind.”
Not only has fate changed Savannah’s life, but also that
of Brooke’s. Brooke has not had an easy
pregnancy with the severe nausea and vomiting.
She is far from a glowing soon-to-be-mother and this is hard for Brooke
to embrace. Just when Brooke thought her
pregnancy couldn’t get any worse, it does and she is scared of what will happen
to either her or the baby. Josh has been
by her side the entire time being a doting father-to-be and this new reality
causes him to face his fears.
“You can’t do this.
This isn’t a decision you can just make and expect me to be okay with!” His
voice continued to rise as his face turned beet red.
The girls and their husbands have a very special bond
with one another and each of them rely upon the other for strength. It was nice to have everybody looking out for
one another and being by their sides when the world felt like it was closing in
on just one person. What a
wonderful extended family to bring a
child into!
Now I know you’re wondering…what about Luke? We get a couple glimpses of him and he’s
still taking glimpses at legs when his eyes should be focused on whom he is
speaking to.
“You are a
remarkable woman, and you will be one of my biggest regrets in life.”
This was a nice follow up to its predecessor “Hourglass”
that focused on Brooke, Savannah and Luke.
Whereas the first book was meant for your angst level to sky rocket,
this book was more of a compassionate read that allowed you to reach inside and
feel something other than your blood pressure reaching its limits. This will touch your heart and make you hold
tight onto the things that matter most in your life – your family and how you will
do anything for them.
