I love Wendy Ferraro's books and the characters that she creates. They are so real, true to life and such relatable characters. I loved the Hamden hotties and was so excited to find that Ms. Ferraro was giving us a new series with a whole new cast of characters. The very sexy and delicious Dennisons. Yes I took it upon myself to call them that. But trust me they are very delicious, especially Gage, whom Afraid to Fall is about.
Gage Dennison is the Sheriff in a small town. He was once married to a woman that he loved completely until that marriage completely crumbled to the ground. The betrayal that he felt left him a different man. A man with a wall up that was so thick that no one could break it down. I love Gage but will admit he was not the easiest man to love in the beginning. He was a little rough around the edges and I think that had a lot to do with the hurt that he was still carrying around from years ago. He was hurt and you feel that hurt with him. But at some point you need to let go, you need to break down those walls and let someone in. For Gage, that someone was Delaney.
Their first meeting was anything but love at first sight. No matter how attractive he thought Delaney was he kept his walls up and just did his job. But that doesn't mean that he didn't think of her and vice versa. Delaney just moved to the small town that Gage lives in. She left her former life behind to start fresh. It's just her and her baby boy and she plans on making a new life for the two of them. Gage isn't the only one that is dealing with his issues from his past relationship. Delaney has her own hurt and is just trying to move on from it. When she meets Gage there is certainly an attraction there. But Gage is so closed off and at times a bit cranky. But in some way Delaney knows just how to handle him. Even when he is acting like a complete ass she has this way of dealing with him, where he knows what he did was wrong and knows how much of a jerk he really was. She brings out the happy man that he used to be. She slowly breaks down the walls that he built. But that doesn't mean the trust issues still do not exist. Because they do and when those trust issues come into play, it could mean the end of their relationship. Will Gage be able to put the past behind him and trust Delaney enough to have a future with her?
Gage and Delaney were so good together. Gage screwed up on more than one occasion but I still loved him and understood where his words and actions were coming from, whether right or wrong. But at the same time Delaney made some decisions that may not have been the right ones either and was just as much at fault as Gage was. Gage and Delaney were sexy, cute and perfect together. Ms. Ferraro always knows how to deliver the hot sex scenes, knows how to create the characters that you can relate to, and knows how to bring out the emotions. There was a moment where my heart honestly broke for Gage. He messed up but he did everything he could to redeem himself and in those moments my heart hurt for him. I love how much he cared for Delaney's son and loved seeing him go from a grumpy closed of man to a man in love.
Ms. Ferraro did an amazing job with this one. You felt the pull between Gage and Delaney, you felt the tension that built up until that very moment where they finally gave in to their feelings. And let's say that you will never look at an ice cream sundae the same way again. I always look forward to W. Ferraro's books and cannot wait for the next book in this series.
