Shades hadn’t seen Skylar in years, and now here she was, the love of his life, riding back into his life on the back of a brother’s bike.

For years after Shades had lost Skylar, he’d tried satisfying the emptiness of losing her with booze, pussy and the club. He’d turned his frustration at having to give her up into a determination to climb the ranks of the club, but he hadn’t counted on the fact that the pull he’d felt toward Skylar had only laid dormant in him all these years. Or that all it would take to reignite it was just one look at her. And he sure as hell hadn’t counted on her showing up on the back of a brother’s bike.

When Skylar finally comes back into his life, will his desire for earning that VP patch stand in the way of any future he could have with her?

And when a rival MC shows up looking for Skylar, things go from complicated to damn near impossible. Does Skylar come with more baggage than Shades is willing to sign up for?

4.5 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen

Skylar was 18 years old and hanging out at the MC clubhouse with her best friend.  Her best friend’s brother is in the MC and he has given strict instructions to all his “brothers” to stay away from these girls.  Shades is a prospect for the MC club and knows that being with Skylar would jeopardize his chance at becoming a member of the club.   But neither of them can fight the automatic pull towards each other.

“One of these nights, girl.  One of these nights, I swear.”
“What, Shades?” What do you swear?”
“You and me, we’re gonna find out just how hot this flame burns.”

One of those nights happened, along with several more.  They were hot for each other and the sheets were on fire.  Of course this was all done in secret since Shades wasn’t supposed to touch her.  Besides burning up the sheets, they also had great pillow talk.  They were perfect for each other.  But all that changed…

Her last look at him was in her rearview mirror as she sped away.
That night, she packed her shit and left town.
And she never looked back again.

Ten years later Skylar finds herself in a heap of trouble and running.  She heads back home to where her best friend still lives.  She also finds herself back at the clubhouse where Shades is a now a full-fledged member.  In fact he is a possible candidate for the newly vacated VP position.   Shades learned a hard lesson 10 years ago, but was it enough to keep him away from her again?  Seeing her again is like rubbing salt in his freshly opened wound.

She’d taken his money.  Stolen his mother’s rosary.  And now she was with one of his brothers, rubbing it in his damn face, and he had to stand here and take it.

Skylar has a lot going on in her life right now.  She has rival MC members looking for her, Shades tossing out mixed signals left and right, seeing the violent side of Shade that she didn’t see 10 years ago, and to top it off she discovers a part of her past that she didn’t know existed.  It’s a lot for her to take in and a lot of complications for Shade to contend with.

Life never seemed to give them a break or cut them any slack, it was like the fates were plotting against them.  Fuck that.  They’d make their own fate.  He wasn’t letting anything get between them again.

Shades and Skylar have never had it easy when it comes to their relationship.  There is always something or someone waiting for a chance.  But they seem to have a deep love for each other that is strong enough to test everything that is thrown at them.  Shades blew me away with his love for Skylar and his devotion to her.

“I know you’re afraid.  I know it’s scary, but I’ve got two strong arms to wrap around you when the world goes crazy.  The only thing you need to know is you are my world.”

There was an element of surprise in this book that I was delighted to find…HUMOR.  Oh man were the MC brothers hilarious.  Here are some good one liners…

“I look at people sometimes and think, ‘For real? That’s the sperm that won?’”
“I don’t have a short temper, I just have a low tolerance for bullshit.”
“She’s not the best lookin’ girl here, but beauty’s only a light switch away, Bro.”

Their interaction was some of the most easygoing I have encountered between any friends.  Never mind that they are tough guys that could pull a gun and shoot anybody who made fun of them – they took it all in stride and threw it right back.

This book was full of depth, from emotions to actions.  Very seldom does it take me more than a couple days to finish a book and this one took several days.  I’m not complaining though – it’s definitely worth the money and you will enjoy it.  The book is the third in a series, but can be read as a standalone.  I have read the first book in the series but skipped the second book.   From what I could tell, there are overlapping events in the second and third books but nothing that will leave you in the dark.  There are more books coming in this series and I hope they all have this humor.  They should since one of the stories will focus on the cracker jack of the bunch.  Well done, Ms. James.  I look forward to more of the Evil Dead.

When outlaw biker Tyler “Crash” Shaw volunteers his services to his club brother, Cole Austin, VP of the Evil Dead MC, he suddenly finds himself a rich girl’s bodyguard and babysitter. Well, it’s a bitch of a job, but maybe he can have a little fun with it. He thinks he’ll get a kick out of teaching the pampered stuck-up girl a lesson or two on how the other half lives. She can cook and clean for him in exchange for his help. No free ride for her. He intends to teach her that money can’t buy her way through life. The world saw a classy pulled-together wealthy lady. All he saw was a spoiled little rich girl. A troublemaker, that’s all she was to him. Until she revealed the shattered girl inside that tried so hard to hide her weaknesses and fears with a façade of arrogance, attitude, and sass. He’d tear down those walls she tried so hard to build, if only she’d let him. Could the love of a man so wrong for her be the only one to save her? And in his darkest hour, would her love be enough to save him? From the MC’s California charter in San Jose, to the casinos and brothels of Reno, to brother charters in the Deep South, this story will take you on a ride of highs and lows that lead ultimately to redemption.
