4 Star Review by Jen Skewes
I became a fan of Amber L. Johnson after reading Puddle
Jumping which is probably one of my favorite books ever. So when I saw that she was writing a rock
star romance I could not wait. Maybe is
about two broken people learning to find love again. And one of them happens to be a rock star who
is also finding his way again.
Emily has a great job working for Breakout magazine where
she basically showcases new bands and musicians. She loves her job and it has become her main
foucs. She is not here to have fun or
find love or even a one night stand. She
tried the love thing once and that didn’t end very well. Her focus is her job. Her next assignment is in Austin where she
meets her new landlord Tyler Macy. Now
there is definitely an attraction between the two of them until Tyler continues
to palys his rums late at night, keeping Emly up and pissing her off. And to make matters worse, it ends up that he
is the drummer of the new band that she is going to be working with. Yeah this is going to be good.
Tyler is the drummer for this band. At ne point he was the lead singer but since
getting his heart completely crushed by his ex he seems to be in the shadows
rather than being front and center. He has lost his writing mojo and has ot
been able to write anything meaningful in a few years. But then Emily come
along and changes everything. When he is
with her it all comes back to him. She
is his muse and as long as she is with him he can create the music that he has
been longing to write. But as much as
Emily is his muse and as much as he feels the attraction and pull, it also
scares him. He is afraid to open up his
heart to someone again. But at the end
of the six weeks, Emily’s job is done and she is supposed to go back home and
start a new assignment. So what happens
then?
Emily and Tyler are reunited again and the feelings that
they had for each other is still there. Along
with I think some regrets. Now that they
are working together gain will the sparks that they once had be lit again? Will they both be able to put their past behind
them and focus on the future and and each other?
I loved these characters.
This book was a rock star book but I think a bit different than I
expected. This was about the two of them
getting their second chance. They had
both been hurt by love before and were afraid to feel again. But there was no denying the feelings that
they had for each other. This is a love story between two people overcoming
the fears f their pasts but also dealing with the obstacles that they face
while Tyler is on tour. I loved these
two together. I loved what Emily brought
out in Tyler. How she helped him find
his way back to the one thing he loved which was music. After reading this book the cover for this
books fits it perfectly. There is a part
of the book regarding music notes which I loved. This book is mainly told from Emily’s point
of view with chapters being short journal entries from Tyler which give us just
the right amount of his thoughts to understand him. Another wonderful job by Ms. Johnson
~~EXCERPT~~
Walking toward him is like trudging through the deepest mud, but I hold my head high, my hands in my pockets and strides long. When I'm less than a foot away, his head turns toward me without lifting his chin, and he looks up from under his brows. The white smoke from his cigarette causes his eyes to nearly close before he pulls it from his lips and exhales upward into the air.
I'm struck by how incredibly handsome he is in black wool and new jeans. I want to know if his skin feels hot under his clothes and if his back feels the same when I scratch fingernails across his spine. My fists clench in my coat pockets at the thought. This is going to be so much harder than I'd been prepared for.
~~ABOUT THE AUTHOR~~
A true child of music, Amber's parents surrounded her with the loudest beats they could find, molding her into a girl who found inspiration and meaning in lyrics and chords. Raised on John Hughes movies, Luck Dragons, and pirate ships, she dreamed of love and adventure. When Amber began to create her own world, she envisioned a place where Happy Ever Afters do exist. Since then, she has authored several romance novels, all of which focus on songs and the way they can touch people's lives. Music may not be able to fix a broken heart, but it can provide one hell of a soundtrack for healing.
A full-time wife and mother with a full-time job, Amber finds her muse in everyday life and the people who bring her inspiration.
Be sure to look for her other book!
