Review: Landslide by Jenn Cooksey

For Erica and Cole, the bond of friendship was forged in childhood.

Now, torn and broken by grief, that bond will become paramount as two friends look to one another for comfort, strength, and hope in the aftermath of loss. On a journey taken both together and alone, Erica and Cole search for healing and life born anew. Although when mistakes, secrets and betrayal are revealed, the two must each learn to accept that even saints and some angels are human and people aren’t always who they appear to be.

But in the age old struggle to forget and forgive, realization dawns. And with it, so does the understanding that sometimes, the sturdiest foundation for the future lies buried in the dust of the past. Because, for some people…

…love is friendship caught on fire.

4 Solid Stars!

Review by Natasha Gentile

I was very excited for this book.  I fell in love with the blurb, I’m a sucker for a friends to lover story.

For Erica and Cole, the bond of friendship was forged in childhood.

Erica and Cole grew up together.  Living close to each other they were always the other ones "go to" person.  Whether it was playing dolls, or having a tea party or just hanging out they were each others best friends.  They were also each others first kiss.  Where Erica had her grandparents to raise her with love, Cole had his father who was - well, just there.

After having a DNA test to determine that I am in fact his son, I’ve spent all of my nineteen and a half years of life being raised by a hard-ass who started pounding it into my head before I could even talk that life isn’t easy and there are no freebies or handouts.

So you can imagine that there were no bed times stories, loving hugs for this little boy, but I have to say it made him the man that he became and I for one, loved him.

Now, torn and broken by grief, that bond will become paramount as two friends look to one another for comfort, strength, and hope in the aftermath of loss.

The plans that were already in place for both of them, have been derailed.  Thinking he has nothing left in his home town he gets into his car and takes off, but not without Erica.  They go on a beautiful road trip where they try to heal.

Although when mistakes, secrets and betrayal are revealed, the two must each learn to accept that even saints and some angels are human and people aren’t always who they appear to be.

When Erica and Cole lost track of each other and finally reconnected after seven years, there is a lot that has changed for both of them.  The one thing that hasn’t changed is the love they have for each other.  The question is can they forget and face the future without looking back?  Will they have enough faith in each other to know that they were always meant to be or will it be a landslide, just slipping away?

I really enjoyed this book, however I found it to be a little lengthy.  There were parts that were repetitive and Cole had many inner conversations with himself. These had a tendency to drag some parts of the story. I understand that the author wanted us to see the relationship build, but sometimes less is more. However, overall it is a sweet story about love overcoming both obstacles and time.
