Life doesn’t always start with once upon a time.

Love doesn’t always end with happily ever after.

After spending five years with the love of my life, I did nothing to stop her from walking away. She had her reasons to leave. I had my reasons to stay. But a year later, the realization of loss hits me, and I’ll stop at nothing to fix it. I leave everything behind to drive across the country to win her back, and I refuse to accept anything other than fulfilling old promises.

But the only certainty in life is: nothing is as expected.

The most valuable lessons don’t often revolve around a fairytale ending—frequently, they come from hurt and healing. They come from the kind of personal growth love offers. The mending of your heart, your soul, and your life. And every once in a while, you find the greatest gifts in the packages you never expected to open.

Review by Jen Skewes

All I can really say is WOW!!  Leddy Harper has done it again!  I am not sure how to write this review because one, I do not want to spoil it or give anything away.  But I also don’t know how to write this review in a way that will do this story justice.  I am not sure how to put into words how much I loved this book and how much it affected me emotionally.  When I found out that Ms. Harper was writing another book I couldn’t have been more excited. Actually that’s not true, when she asked if I wanted an ARC I couldn't have been more excited.  But honestly I had no idea what this story was about and it didn’t even matter to me.  If Leddy Harper wrote it I am reading it.  So I went in completely blind and that is by far the best way to experience this book.

When Creed first met Layne he knew from the moment that he saw her that he wanted to know everything about her.  It wasn’t long before he fell in love with her and knew that she was the one he wanted to grow old with.  But after five years of being together, they both graduated college and things did not work out the way either of them had planned, causing them to go their separate ways.  But it is a year later and Creed realizes how stupid he was and that the only thing that matters to him is Layne.  Without her, everything else in his life doesn’t matter.  So he sets out to drive across country to do everything in his power to get her back.  He let her go once and is not about to let go of her again.  And that is all I am going to say!!

Eminent Love is a beautiful love story between two people who had such an amazing connection.  They had the kind of love that you feel deep within your soul.  It’s the kind of love that gives you goose bumps, makes you feel butterflies in your stomach just thinking about, and the kind of love that every woman wants to experience.  Creed loved Layne with everything that he had.  And she in return loved him the same way.  Without each other they weren’t complete.  Together they were one.  And together they could face anything that came their way.  And boy did they.

Leddy Harper managed to bring out so many emotions.  This is a story that will touch your heart and stay with your. Layne and Creed had a love like no other, a love so intense and so powerful that everything about it felt so real.  What I loved is that this story went back and forth from the present to the past.  So we got to see this beautiful love of theirs unfold.  We see all the special moments between them, both the happy times as well as the sad.  We get to experience life with them.

But it wasn’t just the good times that we saw.  This story is not all hearts and rainbows.  There are parts of their journey that will completely break your heart and make you an emotional mess.  I cried my eyes out more than once, and I may have even cursed Ms. Harper once or twice for putting me through it all.  But all I can say is that it was all worth it.  I don’t think that I will ever be able to get over this book hangover that I have going right now or forget this beautiful couple.  All I want to do is go back and read their story all over again and savor every moment and every word.  I want to laugh, smile and cry with them all over again.  That is how much this story touched me.   This book will stay with me forever and the characters in it truly touched my heart.  Leddy Harper you have completely outdone yourself!!!  By far my favorite book of yours!!!

I’ve done nothing for a year other than think of her and remember how good I’d had it. How healing her love was for me. How I’d never find anything resembling it again. Not like I’d tried, but that didn’t mean anything. Nothing had meaning without her. Nothing.

I inhaled deeply, my heart hammering away…and I pressed call. My breathing ceased as it rang. Once. Twice. Three times. And then her voice came through the line. Such a soft sound, like a melody. Warm and soothing, just like her. The air blew out harshly past my lips as I readied myself to speak, to recite the words I’d held onto for a year. Although, before my lungs completely deflated, my breath caught in my chest, burning me from the inside out.

“Hey, you’ve reached Layne. Well, not really. You’ve reached my voicemail. I wasn’t able to get to my phone fast enough, but if you leave a message, I’ll call ya right back.” With my eyes closed, I could picture her perfectly. Her smile was evident in her voice, in the way she spoke with a lilt at the end of her words.

Pain.

That’s what listening to her voice filled me with. Immense torture. I couldn’t even form enough thought to come up with something to say. When the beep sounded, I didn’t speak. One second. Two. Three. Four seconds of complete silence dragged out before I finally ended the call.

“Fucking stupid idiot,” I said aloud as I slammed the phone down on the table. My face immediately fell into my hands. Of course she didn’t answer. She had no reason to. She’d said all she needed to say in the email she’d sent about a month after we’d broken up. An email I’d disregarded for weeks before finding the patience to open it.

I should’ve responded then.

I should’ve done something.

However, I chose to dismiss her and the entire situation. It had been easier at the time because I’d allowed the fury inside to burn stronger until any ounce of compassion regarding her or our life together had been decimated, charred beyond recognition. Turned into ashes and then carried away by the wind.

About Leddy Harper

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child. She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.

She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to overcome their fears.
