The first book that I read from Nikki Groom was Against the Tide. I loved it because it was raw and intense and I immediately became a fan of Ms. Groom's writing. Spark in the Ashes is raw and gritty and the exact reason why I love this author's writing. While it has that same intensity to it, this book is also very different from Ms. Grooms other books. It can be a bit gruesome and at times a little harsh and tough to read but for me I loved every minute of it. I devoured this book from beginning to end.
Sadie is a broken young woman who has a very tragic past. She has been through and witnesses things that no one should ever have to. She is out for revenge, trying to make up for what happened to her in the past. She wants to right the world of all the wrong people in it. She wants revenge and does not care how she goes about it. That at of revenge is what leads her to Ramsey Dalton, VP of the Steel Souls MC. And there first meeting is anything but pleasant.
Ramsey Dalton has his own past and his own story to tell. A story that explains how he became the VP of the Steel Souls. He is a rough and tough kind of guy who will do anything to protect those that he cares about. Sadie was someone who got in his way but he was so captured by her and what he witnessed that he couldn't help but want to make her his. The ride ahead for them is anything but smooth. Ramey still has a job to do and he needs to do it without Sadie getting the way. As the VP of the club the one thing he does need is a distraction and Sadie is just that. But she is unlike any girl that he has met. She doesn't want him for all the reasons every other girl does. She's strong and feisty and stands her ground and that is what he loves about her. He wants something more but knows that there is a huge risk that goes along with it. Will these two be able to make it past all of the struggles to find some sort of happiness?
I loved Ramsey. He is tough and sexy and everything that I should hate. lol Let's be honest if this was real life and I knew and witnessed some of the things he did I would have ran so far away. But this is not real life and regardless of the things he did I loved him. He is loyal to those he loves, he cares and protects the people closest to him. I saw how deeply he cared for Sadie and what he ould do to protect her. And that is what I loved about him.
Sadie is fierce and feisty and full of sass. She is one tough girl and I loved her. She should have run for the hills the moment she met Ramsey but she didn't. She held her own and came back for more. I felt for her and what she went through in her past. I understand her reasons for revenge and why she seems to be this broken soul. I think her and Ramsey together were a perfect fit.
I loved this book. It was raw, intense and gritty which I loved. Yes there are moments where if you were watching this on a TV screen you would turn your head. But that was the world that Ramsey and his brother lived in. A world that Ms. Groom perfectly. From the VP who wants a life with the girl he is falling for, while at the same time trying to keep her and his brothers safe, to the brother who may not necessarily want this life any more, to the President who is tough as nails but when it comes to his old lady is a softie. To the gruesome details, the retaliation, the revenge, the sexy moments and the shocker at the end of this book. It was all perfect and I cannot wait to see how this story ends.

“Do you have any idea what you got involved in tonight, little girl?” His voice is low, dangerous, and for the first time since I woke, fear taps at each bone as it trickles down my spine and he moves closer. “I might not know your name, but I do know what you’ve done. What are you, some kind of femme fatale? You on a mission to rid the world of all the bad guys?” He chuckles to himself then stops with his body flush to mine. I hold his gaze, refusing to back off, feeling the fire in his eyes burning through mine. He strokes a finger lightly along my temple and down my cheek. “You got daddy issues?” he whispers.
“Fuck. You.” I shove at his chest, but he doesn’t budge an inch which only increases my frustration.

That kinda luck doesn’t happen twice.” He leans in close, pushing my hair from my face gently with his cheekbone and settling his hot breath over my ear. “Now, we can do this the easy way, or the hard way. I’m not above binding you again—” He pauses, letting a few heated breaths brush across my skin. “So tell me, are you going to bend and comply? Which will make it so much easier for you, or am I going to have to wrangle your twisted little soul into submission?”
