Simmer (verb): to stew gently below or just at the
boiling point; to be in a state of incipient development

My life was always at a simmer… only stewing, never going
anywhere. I was left to fend for myself when it came to affection or love, so I
learned to go without.

I refused to let them see how broken and lonely I was; it
was much easier to hide behind a false reality. I didn't want anyone's pity. I
didn't need it. Pity wouldn't put food on the table or keep a roof over our
heads. That was all me.

Now, I have a second chance at a dream long forgotten. It
demands hard work and sacrifice—with absolutely no distractions. A recipe I
already know all too well, raising a daughter on my own.

Drew Kostas is everything I’ve ever wanted but couldn't let
myself have. He’s younger, gorgeous, charming—and relentless. He sees beyond
the hardened shell I’ve built to protect myself, coaxing out a softer me I
don't recognize.

It doesn't matter how I melt in his presence when the heat
between us threatens to boil over.

That's the thing about heat. When it rises, everyone gets
burned.

Especially when they're foolish enough to fall in love.

Sara is a 32 year old single mom, living in NY and trying to make ends meet.  For the past nine years she has been doing it all on her own, sine her parents want nothing to do with her.  But her daughter's father is now in her life and Sara is faced with an opportunity that she cannot refuse.  She has the chance to go back to school for her final year and finish the culinary program.  This would mean a better life, place to live and job for her and her daughter Victoria.  The only issue is that she has to leave her daughter with her father in order to make this work.  She has it all planned out and knows that this will be the best thing for the both of them.  But Drew Kostas was not a part of that plan and neither was falling in love.

Drew is a Grad student at the same school that Sara is now attending.  When he first meets her he knows that she is something special.  But he can also see the walls that she has put up around her.  Taking it slow and just becoming friends is the plan to get to know her.  Right now a friendship is what Sara needs but for her it is the only thing.  Until they start spending time together and Sara sees just how amazing Drew is.  He is 7 years younger than her and when the year is up she will move back home and they will have to go their separate ways.  So getting involved with him as more than friends is not something that can happen.  But you can't always help how you feel and once they cross that line there is no turning back.  Will their age get in the way of happiness?  When the year is up will they part ways?  You will have to read it to find out.

I absolutely loved this book and adored Drew and Sara.  Drew is 25 but he is the kindest, gentlest, most mature and genuine guy there is.  He just made my heart melt over and over again.  The way he cared for Sara and formed an instant bond with her daughter was so beautiful to watch.  He was everything that you want in a man.  He was sexy and sweet all in one.  He was the perfect guy and at times had to wonder was he too good to be true.  Because he really was that amazing.

Sara has had such a hard life and I admired her so much.  I admired her strength, her courage and her independence, even if that part was forced on her.  She love her daughter and would do anything for that girl.  Their bond was unbreakable and she is an amazing mother.

I loved these two characters separately but together they were just perfect.  I love when you can feel the connection between the characters instantly. Between their conversations, the flirting and their actions you can just feel everything that is between them.  Drew gave so much to Sara on an emotional level, and it was something that she has never felt before.  He gave her a love that she has never felt before.  He loved her inlays that no one ever has and that is what made me love the tow of them together.

Simmer is a beautiful story that I absolutely loved.  It is filled with two beautiful characters, a sweet girl who is so loveable and will bring out so many emotions.  I may have cried a little and found myself with a lump in my throat at times.  there were moments that will make you sad and moments that were just too beautiful not to feel.  I love the relationship that Sara had with Victoria's dad and his wife.  And it was great to see Josh and Bri again and see how they were doing.  We met them in Rewrite but don't worry if you did not read that book you do not need to.  But I do recommend it because it gives you a feel for who they are.  This book was fantastic and I hope that we get to see more from some of these characters.
