Review: Beautiful Disaster (The Bet) by Francette Phal

It's Hot pick Thursday and here is our review for one of our hot picks.

4 Stars

“I won’t let you leave me, not after finding you, Ellie. Don’t tell me it’s over when the only thing I have ever believed in is you and me. You’re the very thing that keeps me sane and grounded. The love between us, its’ binding and I can’t let it go….I can’t let you go.”   ~Nicholas Grayson

What do you get when you combine Cruel Intentions, A Bronx Tale and Revenge all together? You get a Beautiful Disaster! Throughout the entire story you are entangled in a web of friendships, love, lies and deceit and paybacks. You manage to find strength and to see the good through the bad.
Nicholas Grayson goes to school with other young, entitled teenagers go. What do the rich kids do to entertain themselves with their boring, privileged lives? They make “bets” and like to watch other’s suffer and be humiliated. His mother ignores him and his father doesn’t care what he does so long as it doesn’t cause problems for the Grayson name. What is a teenage boy to do? Use women, lots and lots of women only to turn around and humiliate them.
Ellie Holbrook has had a troubled past and has overcome many adversities, especially at her age. She fell head over heels in love with Tony Carlyle. Tony was a charmer, could talk his way into your heart and pant, he is also a drug dealer. He got Ellie hooked on heroin and then got her pregnant, wanting to do the right thing by her child, she leaves Tony after he beats her to a pulp. Her parents disowned her and kicked her out. Her Uncle Gabe took her in and helped out as she sobered up, got back on the right path and became the best mom to her daughter Sophie. Ellie has no room in her life for silly high school nonsense, she just wants to graduate and make a great life for her and her daughter.
Nicholas takes on a new bet, one that has to do with Ellie. Ellie knows guys like Nicholas and doesn’t fall for his games. Nicholas realizes there is more to Ellie than meets the eye and he starts to feel things he never thought would be possible, not only that he wants to be both Ellie and her daughter’s future. Together they discover a friendship, the definition of a family and what the meaning of true love is really all about. Unfortunately others have plans to end the happiness for both Ellie and Nicholas and they will stop at nothing to get what they want. Truths are told, pasts are uncovered and sometimes you have to walk away from what you need to save the ones you want and love the most.
Ellie and Nicholas’s journey is challenging, fun, loving, and heartbreaking all at the same time. The characters are all fantastic. I can’t wait to see what happens with Ellie and Nicholas in book #2 titled Redemption (The Bet #2) available now!
