Synopsis:
Gemma thought she had said her good-byes and had felt every possible emotion she could before her soul was detached again. Deep down inside, she hoped she’d never wake up from it because, in her eyes, life without emotion and memories isn’t worth living.
But she does wake up and discovers she can still feel and remember everything she experienced over the last few months. Alex is also telling her that everything’s okay, that he didn’t betray her, and that what she thought happened really didn’t.
Gemma isn’t sure if she can trust Alex, so she tries to keep her distance from him, even though the electric connection and her desire make it nearly impossible. The only person she can trust is Laylen, but even that becomes complicated when the lines of their friendship begin to blur.
While Gemma struggles with her emotions and relationships, she searches for her mother, entering a dangerous world of secrets, seduction, and evil. The further she digs into her mother’s secrets and past, the more she wonders what waits for her at the end of her search and if maybe some things are better left in the dark.
**Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content.

Our 4 Star Review
Gemma was prepared to wake up again with her soul detached. It is after all the last thing she remembers trying to prepare herself for, she also remembers her heart being crushed by Alex’s betrayal.
“I would have never let you die.”
When she wakes and finds she still has all of her emotions, her memory and her soul she is confused. When Alex explains that he didn’t betray, that he couldn’t betray her she is reluctant to believe him. He hasn’t been 100% honest with her since the beginning. She is weary and she can’t deny the bond she feels with him.
“I can’t take this anymore.” He says in a breathy whisper as he leans in closer, his eyes glossed over. “I want to be angry with you, but I can’t stop thinking about how I need to make you mine again and how I really don’t deserve you for everything I’ve done to you-all the lies I’ve told.”
Walking the thin line with Alex, she decides to distance herself from him. When she starts having visions or dreams about her mother, she turns to the one person she has been able to trust from the get go, Laylen.
Laylen agrees to help her find information on who to get to the dangerous place her mother is being held. Sometimes things are easier said than done. When Laylen is forced to drink Gemma’s blood, their friendship becomes complicated.
“Gemma, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault. I’m the one who said to do it.”
“But I didn’t have to do it,” he says and then shuts hi eyes as I place a hand on his cheek and run my thumb along his jawline. “Part of me wanted to do it,” he admits, opening his eyes. Part of me has wanted to...to bite you ever since you reentered my life.”
While Gemma struggles with her powers and tries to learn how to control them, she also prepares herself for the dangerous world she hasn’t even begun to understand. As she continues to dig into her mother’s past, secrets and lies come to light. Truths are found and she begins to see the true evil that is waiting for her.
“I always win.” He drips his blood on my open wound and I gag. “I thought detaching your sould would do it, but apparently not. This way’s better anyway. You’ll enjoy being evil.”
Stephen searches my eyes for life, yet there’s nothing in me except a shadow of myself, a rotting corpse.
My heart continues to break for Gemma. It seems at every turn another bomb is dropped on her. She is clearly confused with Alex and with Laylen. Doing all she can to save her mother who may not even be sane anymore. She just feels lost.
Trying to figure out the mark she keeps seeing and learning that her father wasn’t someone nice. She is literally battling herself. On from the Stephan, the death walkers and Nicholas, Gemma learns quickly trust is almost impossible.
The intimate scenes are HOT. Gemma has a tough choice on her hands when it comes to Alex and Laylen.
We are left hanging once again. This time Stephan actually gets a hold of Gemma and Marks her and her only thoughts are dark ones, ones that don’t have Alex in her future. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Jessica Sorensen did a fantastic job in creating this crazy world. The characters are fantastic, the angst, the hurt, the confusion and the lust will definitely shatter you. Phenomenal!
A wonderful job done by Ms. Sorensen.
