Review: Six of Hearts by L.H. Cosway

Step right up and meet Jay Fields: Illusionist. Mentalist. Trickster.

I think in triangles. You think in straight lines.

I show you a table and make you believe it’s a chair.

Smoke and mirrors, sleight of hand, misdirection. I trick and deceive.

But most of all, I put on a good show.

The world thinks I killed a man, but I didn’t. Bear with me. It’s all a part of the plan.

Revenge is what I want. I want it for me and I want it for her.
I want it for all six of us.

She doesn’t remember me, but she’s the reason for everything. She’ll be my prize at the end of all this – if I can hold onto my willpower, that is. Maybe I’ll slip up a little, have a taste, just a small one.

So go ahead and pick a card. Come inside and see the show. Look at my hands, look so closely that you can’t see what’s happening while you’re so focused on looking. I’ll be destroying your world from right here in the spotlight.

You’ll never see me coming until it’s too late.

I’ve only got one heart, and after I’ve pulled off my grand deception I’ll hand it right to her.

So, sit back, relax, and let my girl tell you our story. You’re in for one hell of a ride.

4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes

Oh My God, this book!!  This is the first book that I have read by this author and it came as a recommendation from a friend who raved about it.  After reading it, I can understand why.  This book is a little different that what I have read in the past.  It was fascinating and completely captivating.  It has mystery, suspense and romance and was just a fantastic read.

Jay Fields is an illusionist and a very sexy one at that.  People think that he killed a man and he is going to set the record straight.  He plans on suing the newspaper columnist who has written an article claiming he killed a man.  He is out to prove his innocence and get revenge.  But not everything is what it seems.  And that is where the mystery of this story comes into play.

Matilda lost her mother at a young age and it has just been her and her father.  Until Jay Fields walks into her life and her fathers law office.  He wants her father to represent him in his case against the newspaper.    Her father doesn’t want to take the case and while Jay has every intention of changing his mind he gives it time.  In the meantime he needs a place to stay and Matilda and her dad just happen to have a room for rent.

Matilda basically only has her dad and her best friend Michelle.  She really hasn’t had many men in her life.  She has trouble finding men and just communicating with them.  She also lacks the confidence she needs to meet a man.  But Jay Fields is different.  She felt a connection with him from the beginning.  She also felt how much her body responded to his presence.  She likes him and soon her little crush on the illusionist turns into so much more.  But as much as Jay wants her he tends to push her away causing her to think maybe she misinterpreted his feelings for her.  She doesn’t quite seem to understand his motives and actions at times but she cannot seem to stay away.  She misses him when he is not there and enjoys being around him.  There is more to Jay Fields than she knows and she knows that it is only a matter of time before she finds out his secrets.

Jay Fields….sigh.  There is just something about this man that I loved.  He is an alpha male with a heart of gold.  He wanted to protect Matilda with everything he had, even if at times that meant staying way.  You felt how much he loved and cared for her even if he didn’t say it.  He is so sweet and caring and at the same time extremely sexy. I loved the banter between them and his sexual inuendos.  Matilda was a loveable character who I honestly related to and felt for.  She really liked Jay but was sometimes confused by him.  She knew he had secrets and tried so hard to be patient.  Things between her and Jay were so easy and comfortable.  Talking to him and flirting with him just came easy.  And let’s not forget about the sexual tension and chemistry between the two of them.  HOLY Hotness!!

I wanted these two to get together so badly but understood his reasons.  There is a mystery that is Jay Fields.  And throughout the book you try to figure out exactly what the mystery is.  And while I thought I had a part of it figured out, in truth I was only a fraction right.  What I loved about this book was the guessing.  What was real and what wasn’t?  How did he do that?  I found myself wondering the same things that Matilda did when it came to him.  In addition to the mystery and suspense was such a wonderful love story.  One that I loved.  Jay and Matilda were so perfect and amazing together.  They had this connection that you just felt. between them.  Have I mentioned how much I loved Jay?  I want my own Jay Fields. He has a way of melting your heart with his words one minute and then making you all hot the next.

This was an amazing book that I am still thinking about a day later.  This may be my first book by LH Cosway but certainly not may last.  I need to go check out her other work now!   Read this book, I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
