Jess is feisty and strong headed. Her past haunts her and connects her to the dangerously dark Dimitri in an unexpected way. Dimitri keeps his secrets locked deep inside, and Jess is drawn to this broken man like no one before.

With little to cling to besides their haunting pasts, both could have been doomed to lives spent raging against the darkness that holds them prisoner. Instead, it seems that as their pain draws them closer together, it is their desire that will set them free.

Review

4 Star Review by Lisa Kane

When I was a kid I loved pirate romance stories. So when Bella Jewel started this modern day pirate series; having loved her MC books, I knew I was going to love this series too!

When Enslaved by the Ocean ended, Hendrix was united with Indi, but unfortunately  his son Dimitri had kidnapped Jessie, the nurse Hendrix had taken under his care and protection. Jessie has been living on Hendrix's ship for years; running away from a brutal past and a violent act on her part. She may be tiny and petite, but she is as strong as steel and is not easily intimidated.

Her initial confrontation with Dimitri is an explosive one. Both are drawn to each other, but they are enemies; Jessie will protect Hendrix and Indi with her life; she thinks of them as her family. Dimitri has spent years seeking revenge against his father, blaming him for abandoning him, killing his mother and leaving him to be abused at the hands of some despicable men.

"I'm not tellin' you where we're goin', nor am I going to discuss anything with you. You speak when I tell you to. Until such time, you keep your mouth shut and do as you're told."
"That's fine by me-I've run with assholes long enough to know how people like you work," I quip. If you think I'm telling you anything about Hendrix, you're very wrong. If you want me to shut up, then I will shut up."

Jessie can't seem to switch off her attraction to Dimitri, in spite of his harsh cold ways towards her. She suffered terrible abuse at the hands of her foster father, and hasn't  felt this way about a man-her feelings confuse her and her body betrays what her mind wants. Since we have both POV's, we are privy to Dimitri's thoughts also. He can't help but respect Jessie for the way she stands up to him and his men, but thinks she is a spoiled girl with a priviledged upbringing. He also assumes she was Hendrix's woman while on his ship, and believes Hendrix will come after her.

His eyes flicker. "He'll do whatever I fuckin' want, because I saw how he looked at you. If you were worth nothing, girl, then he would have shot me down and risked your life. He didn't. Now, get back in that car and shut your mouth."

But once Dimitri finds out the truth about Jessie's history he can't help but realize they both share the same kind of violation and abuse. She understands what no one else can about him and why he can not stand to be touched. Even when she walked in on him having sex with a gorgeous slut on board his ship, Livvie, she saw him push her hands away as he screwed her. Even during sex he can't let anyone touch him.

There are some steamy, sweaty scenes in this one, as the two of them let down their guards and heal each other with their bodies. Jessie, in spite of her abuse, is sexually ignorant and Dimitri is a thoughtful, sensitive tutor in the ways of lovemaking.

That was perfect; it was everything my first time should have been. I'd missed out on that kind of passion before now, but he made it up to me, he made sure it was perfect as it could be.

But Dimitri's love of illegal fighting puts Jessie in harms way and sets off a chain of actions that will change things between them. Does Dimitri feel more than an attraction for her? Will Jessie pay the ultimate price for Dimitri's rash assumption about her? Will Dimitri and Hendrix ever resolve their differences?

As usual Bella Jewel does not disappoint with this story. Her male characters are always gorgeous and alpha and protective. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. As long as she keeps writing about these guys, I will keep reading!

"Because," he murmurs, kissing a trail up my cheeks. You're my everything and you changed my world, Jessie. That's enough of a reason to kiss you every day, for the rest of your life."
