Baylor Moore eats, sleeps and breathes hockey. Her father has always been her coach and she is determined to play for the NHL. Is she intimidated by the fact that she would be the first female hockey player to play for the league? Not in the least. But she has no time for love. The one time she gave her heart, it was crushed by a teammate named Seth who used her for sex and to get in good with her father, the coach. Sex-maybe, love-no way.
Jayden Sinclair plays for the Bellevue Bullies. His brother Jude has been drafted into the NHL and his story was told in Boarded by Love. He is still madly in love with Claire and is about to pop the question. Jayden's agent wanted him to stay back one more year from the draft and he is gearing up for his shot at the NHL. While Jude was a manwhore, and his younger brother Jace is doing his best to keep up that lifestyle, Jayden is a little more choosey. And he makes sure that the girls he spends time with know the score.
Both Baylor and Jayden are in Florida for a long weekend. Jayden is with his 2 brothers, and Baylor is with her two best friends-a set of twins named Delanie and Mandie. They are determined to get her laid.
"She says she isn't getting laid this weekend," Mandie volunteers.
"Oh my god? Please don't be like that. Open the holy gates and let someone in," she begs, and I roll my eyes.
One is engaged to be married and one is determined to get laid and have tons of fun. And not just in the sun. Of course Baylor and Jayden's paths cross or we wouldn't have a story. They bring out the competitive nature in each other, while they are both eye f#*king each other.
When it looks like they may actually be hooking up-Jayden makes a move that ends up humiliating Baylor. As much as he wants to fix things, she leaves to go back home before he can apologize. But guess who accepts a job as the new hockey coach for the Bellevue Bullies? And guess whose daughter is going with him and will be playing on the same team as Jayden and his brother Jace?
Talk about a rocky road to heaven for these two! Baylor shuts Jayden down at every point. I have to admit, she wore on my nerves. I would never have hung in there as long as Jayden did, trying to work things out.
"So why do you even want to deal with it?"
"Because I like you, he declares. "And a strong minded woman is the kind of woman I want. I want someone who's gonna fight for what they believe in, and you do that. Except for right now. Right now, you're being a little bit of a brat."
Baylor has commitment issues (with good reason) and she is determined to never take her eye off the puck-her goal is the NHL and no one is going to distract her from that. She can't see the trees for the forest and shuts out everyone and everything that doesn't have to do with hockey.
"It made me stronger; no need to apologize. I don't feel sorry for myself, and you shouldn't either. We are stronger for the people that leave us, you know? Being able to live without them just shows how better we are. No one can hold us back but ourselves, and I, for one, am proud of the person I am. Yeah, I'm a little obsessed with winning and I'm a control freak, but I don't need someone to love me."
But even a hermit gets lonely and yearns for company. Jayden tries to show her that a team is like a family and she has to open herself up or she will end up alone. The NHL won't bring her love or friendship or happiness. She has to start somewhere.
I enjoyed Baylor and Jayden's story enough that I picked up Boarded By Love so I can read about Jude and Claire. There are so many characters in the Sinclair family that could use a lesson in love that I am hoping we have lots of stories to come in this series.
"Cause it's so weird!" she laughs and I shake my head. "I'm to perfect. I'm far from it."
"But in my eyes, you are," I say softly as her laughter subsides. I hold her beautiful gaze and love burns in my chest for her. She's so perfectly not perfect. A beautiful f#*king mess and she's all mine. But I can't say that. "To me, man, Bay, you have no clue.

Things are heating up for the Sinclair boys! With one already in the NHL, Jayden Sinclair is hoping to be next!
This has been the toughest year of my life. I watched my brother go into the draft without me, my mom got divorced, and the weight of my family’s issues is heavy on my shoulders. I feel like it’s my job to fix everything while working my butt off in school and trying to make my game better. I have to go into the draft. It will give my family the support they need, and it will prove that I’m good enough. But to get there, I have to show I can be the best captain for the Bellevue Bullies. The spot is mine—no one can take it. First though, Jude is making me go on a brother’s weekend. Innocent enough, I guess…until I see her. She’s the biggest competitor I’ve ever faced. Not only for my spot but also my heart. It’s hard to ignore someone like Baylor Moore.
