Things are about to get rocky for Dean Wentworth and Willow Wade.

Willow Wade is used to living in the spotlight, with her father a famous drummer in the band Willow Creek—her namesake—it’s been a lot to live up to and oftentimes she doesn’t feel she’s enough. But there has always been one person she could turn to.

Dean Wentworth knows a thing or two about how crippling a name can be. His family is worth billions after all. But Dean’s always been content to do his own thing. Play his guitar. Work on cars. And geek out to his various “nerdoms”.

But when Willow turns up unexpectedly, he realizes maybe there is more in life he wants.

Her.

One trip will change their lives forever.

4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

The Road That Leads To Us combines characters from two of my favorite series from Micalea.  But what is special about this one is that we get to see the kids of the characters that we fell in love with.  This is Dean Wentworth (from Trace + Olivia series) and Willow Wade's (Willow Creek Series)story.  I could not wait for this book.  I fell in love with their parents and could not wait to fall in love with them.   But most of all I could not wait for their story. I love a friends to lovers romance.

Dean and Willow have been friends since they were little kids.  Basically growing up together because of the freidnship between their families.  Dean and Willow are best friends.  They both come from very wealthy families but their families wealth both come from different places.   Willow has basically grown up in the public eye since her father is in the band Willow Creek.  She is not really a fan of being in the spotlight, while her friends would rather spend their summer in the Hamptons with all the other socialites, she would rather spend it home with her family.

Dean and Willow both come from money but Dean’s wealth does not come from rock star status, so his life has not been in the spotlight as Willow’s has.  But he is like Willow in the sense that his family’s money does not define him.  It is not his whole world.  Dean is laid back and wants to do his own thing.  While Willow is more spunky and adventurous.  And those two combined could not have been any more perfect together.

The summer after Willow’s first year of college was supposed to be spent on the road with her friends.  But they bailed at the last minute so Willow decided to go home to see her family.  To the place that she missed the most.  When she tells her best friend Dean that her plans for the summer have been cancelled he comes up with a plan.  For the two of them to go on the road trip together.  Willow jumps at the chance to take this time to spend with her best friend and could not be more excited.

Dean and Willow embark on a road trip that they will never forget.  Because what they don’t know is how much things will change when this trip is over.  This is a journey for the two of them.  It is about discoverting themselves but it is also about two best friends who realize that maybe there is more between them then just friendship.

I loved Willow and Dean together.  After about the second or third chapter I was already hooked and in love with the two of them.  I love when you first start to read a book and right away you connect with the characters and at the same time feel the connection between the two of them.  That is exactly what happened for me with these characters.  I instantly felt the connection between them.  They had such a beautiful friendship and there was this comfort that they felt with each other.  They truly were best friends but were also so much more.

I loved that this didn’t feel rushed.  They have known each other for so long so when they both realized their feelings it just felt right.  I loved the journey that Ms. Smeltzer took us on with these two.  I saw a little bit of their parents in both of these characters which I loved.  This was not filled with drama or angst becase it really did not need it.  It is one of those feel good friends to lovers book that you will just love.  It is a beautiful journey between two friends and discovering what has been there all along between the two of them.  I am looking forward to Laim’s story and more of Dean and Willow.

Excerpt

Those bitches were gonna die.

That was a horrible thing to say about my so-called ‘friends’—and I used the word friends loosely, because true friends wouldn’t ditch you the day of your scheduled road trip because they’d rather be sunbathing in the Hamptons.

The fucking Hamptons.

Ew.

I mean, how clichéd could you get.

This was why I hated rich people.

It also sucked that I was one of those rich people.

Well, I wasn’t, but my dad was.

So by extension so was I.

When you grew up with a rock star for a dad, cameras and eyes followed you everywhere. It was exhausting.

I couldn’t just be Willow.

I was Willow Wade.

The daughter of the famous drummer Maddox Wade.

People expected greatness from me.

I just wanted to graduate college without slitting my wrists.
