Blurb
Mirror, mirror ... who's the fairest of them all?
I still cringe when I hear that line. A fairy tale that had girls pretending they were the fairest, the most beautiful, and the most entitled. A fairy tale most couldn't grow out of turned my haunted childhood memories into a living nightmare. Girls who grew up believing that pile of garbage became the meanest of all 'mean girls.'
And those mean girls were right - it was a line meant for all the beautiful people in the world - and I knew the answer would never be me.
The women with long legs, flat stomachs, and perfect chests.
The type of women Kane Masters gravitated toward.
Well, that's definitely not Willow Tate.
No. That will never be me.
Because I'm completely imperfect.
And ... I hate myself.
I have no idea what Kane could possibly see in someone like me when he could have them.

4 Star Review by Lisa Kane

He was right when he said that it took two imperfect souls to form perfection together.

Willow's life has not been easy. Her mom was a single parent up until she married the owner of the Logan Agency, which represents models. They had a daughter Ivy. Her step father had nothing but contempt for his "bastard" stepdaughter and her half sister seems to have come out of the womb hating her. When her mom was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver, her stepfather's hatred increased. He blamed her not dying instead.

This burden of death will never be erased. After all, I was the one driving the car that night.
For the next ten years, Willow struggled. She internalized her pain and ate as a way to comfort herself. She married Brad Tate, who turned out to be nothing but Satan himself. He never wasted an opportunity to belittle her and make her feel worse about her weight. The fact that he was screwing her sister pretty much their whole marriage just sealed the deal.

"You heard me, Willow. You have no business with my name now that we are no longer married. I'll be damned if I allow you to tarnish my family's good name any longer. Especially now that I'm finally rid of you."

While waiting for her divorce hearing, she is humiliated in front of Kane Masters,  one of Hollywood's top actors. He looks at her with something completely different than pity in his eyes. He loves a woman with curves and there is something between them. But the encounter is brief and over with too quickly.

The one and only, Mr. Kane Masters. Sexiest Man Alive, most wanted actor around, the object of lust for maybe every woman in the whole entire WORLD!
Six months later, Willow is working for her stepfather at his agency. She is his lackey but hopes with Ivy not working there any longer she can have some kind of relationship with him. (this is one of those moments when I was yelling at my Kindle for this girl to buy a clue!) She has been following Kane and what he has been up to-she can't help it; ever since they met, she was totally smitten even though she has zero chance of ever being with him. Turns out he is all over the tabloids-his relationship with Mia Post is keeping all the tongues wagging. She is pregnant and the two of them have been spotted leaving the doctor's office together.

Kane comes back into Willow's life at just the wrong moment- again. But this time he sees a feisty side of her. She has lost 50 pounds and seems a little more confidant. Once the fireworks are over, he does what he can to defend her and sets things in motion to ensure he has a chance with her. Yes, Kane Masters is determined to make Willow his woman.

"Don't you think it's a little bizarre he would want me? I mean, come on! You see his image in every tabloid magazine every week. There is always a stunning Amazon of perfection at his side."

There is a lot going on in this story. Willow's struggle with her self image and her journey to find peace and acceptance with her body is foremost. Kane is a good guy who is involved with some real drama of his own with Mia Post. Now here's where I will probably be hanging out on a ledge by myself but I felt nothing but contempt for Mia. She is one of those passive/aggressive females-you know the type, seeming to be full of good will, but is the one who gains the most by her relationship with Kane. He is an honorable man and she takes advantage of that in my opinion.

How can I compete with that? How can I expect him to choose me when this child would need its father?

Willow may start out as a bit weak, but she transforms into a woman of strength, and is content with her life and her body image. She may have frustrated me in the beginning of the book by being such a doormat for her ex, and her sister and especially her step father. Their behavior towards her was way over the top and it's hard to imagine she wouldn't go ballistic on them, but she wasn't quite there in believing in her own self worth.

I love stories about Hollywood and actors and the tabloids-and this one fits the bill nicely!

"I love me for me. I love me for you. And I love you because you were the one who gave me this beautiful love, taught me to how to see myself, and there is no one who could ever come between that."

Excerpt
“Are you nervous right now?”
I nod.
“Tell me why.”  His demand, steady and calm, gives me the courage I need to tell him.  To open a vein and bleed my insecurities.
“I’m not perfect,” I whisper.
“And neither am I, Willow.  I don’t want perfect.  What so many see as perfect, to me, is fake.  Perfect isn’t achievable naturally.  No one, and I mean no one, is perfect.”
I’m shaking my head before he’s even done speaking, but one long finger comes up and presses against my lips before I can speak.
“No, let me finish.  There isn’t beauty in perfection.  It’s as fake as the image the word projects.  Beauty is found in imperfection, Willow, because to admit you’re not perfect means you’re admitting you’re not whole and absolute.  When I think of myself, I see someone willing to admit he’s as far from complete as it gets because, in order to get to that perfection, I need to find the other part of me who will make my life better.  To take all the faults I have and fill them, and only then will I be there.  You see, the way I see it, the only way to become perfect is to find that perfectly imperfect person who brings it out of you.”
When he stops, I swear I might have stopped breathing.  How am I supposed to respond to that?
“Do you trust me?” he asks, his voice strong and sure.
“Yes, Kane.  Nerves or not, I do.”
“Then let me show you what I see when I look at you.”
He brings his hands up, framing my face once again in a way I’m quickly becoming addicted to the feeling of.  His warm eyes implore, begging me without words to let him continue.  I do not intend to stop him, regardless of the butterflies currently taking over my system.  I’m all in.

About the Author:
harper sloan bio.jpg

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.
