Ms. Fernando has become one of my favorite MC writers.  I fell in love with her storytelling in the first book of the Wind Dragon series.  She incorporates wit along with drama, and it mixes so well together!  This would be the 4th full-length novel in the series, all featuring individual characters, but bringing over the characters we have fallen in love with in the previous novels.  This is the kind of series I completely adore.  This book brought me back to the memory of first being introduced to the Wind Dragons and the laugh out loud moments.  It also brought back memories of how Ms. Fernando can throw a monkey wrench into the story with angst and drama.  I will warn readers that there is a sexually violent scene which may be a trigger for some.

Bailey and Adam “Rake” were high school sweethearts when the unthinkable happens.   Seven years have passed without running into one another or hearing what the other has been up to.  That quiet wonder ends one night when they happen upon each other.  It’s not a blissful reunion as there is bitter animosity towards each other. Bailey has no idea that her sweet Adam is now Rake – a member of a motorcycle club.  

Over the years, I’d planned out what I wanted to say to him if I ever saw him again, but now that I’m here, I have nothing.  I want to yell; I want to rage; I want to cry.  I want to ask him if he’s happy.
He’s even more beautiful than I remember, but now it’s in a deadly way.   
Just looking into his eyes, I can tell he lives his life in murky shades of gray.

Rake thinks he knows what happened that one fateful night and Bailey knows how Rake retaliated towards her.  It’s not all cut and dry though.  There’s way more to this story and Ms. Fernando does an excellent job playing it out making us, the reader, come up with different scenarios in our mind.  I was not expecting this to have happened.

The truth will set me free, but it will enslave Rake.  I don’t want to hurt him, but right now all I’m doing is hurting myself. 

Rake makes no bones about it (yes, pun intended) – he’s a man whore.  He taps anything, and loves to make Bailey uncomfortable with that knowledge.  Rake is angry for how his heart was once ripped to shreds by loving Bailey and he will never give a woman that power again.  It’s easier just to have his way with a woman and let her walk away with no harm to his heart.  Or it could be that he just doesn’t want anybody to occupy the space in his heart that Bailey still resides.

“No matter what you did, no matter what happened in the past, you will always be the love of my life.”  

Ohhh…Rake that is so sweet.  Now go get your woman!!!  Okay, it’s not all that easy.  There’s still the past to work out and that big reveal is not going to go over well.  Bailey festers anger towards Rake and  Rake is going to feel so much guilt it may even drive a bigger wedge between them.  

“You were supposed to save me!  Why didn’t you save me?”  Tears drip down my cheeks, and finally I allow them to fall.  I don’t hide them; I don’t suppress; I embrace them.  I accept them.  These tears, they are me, my pain.  A symbol of my suffering.  And as I let them drip, I set myself free, a weight lifted at last.  I can actually feel the moment the pain shifts from me to him.




There is a lot going on in this story.  Our old friends are constantly making an appearance and we get to know more about the others that haven’t been featured yet.  Even members from the rival motorcycle club are appealing to me.  And the epilogue is FANTASTIC!!!  It left me with a smile and a warm fuzzy feeling.  How does one do that with an MC book?  I don’t know, but Ms. Fernando accomplished that and so much more!
