Blog Tour: Irreparably Broken by KJ Bell

Review for Irreparably Broken by KJ Bell

4.5 Stars

“I couldn’t breathe when I was away from you, as though each breath was just enough to sustain me, but I was slowly dying. When I saw you again, I had a reason to breathe and then I messed up. I’m so sorry for everything I said to you on the pier, and for all the pain I’ve caused you. I swear I will never leave you again.”

Things are never really what they seem. From the outside looking in people might think your life is perfect. Loving parents, great brother and sisters but no-one really looks that closely. For everyone has secrets, secrets that are big enough to crumble the life you thought you knew.

Let me introduce you to Brady Hunter, with his dark hair and green eyes and the body of a god, he is every women’s dream and he knows it. He has a rep for loving and leaving them. With his football career over due to an injury, Brady is studying law. When his internship falls through, he reluctantly returns home for the summer; Back home where the love of his life Tori is currently living. Torn between keeping a promise to his ex- girlfriend, Vanessa, he needs to tell Tori the truth about his feelings for her but he doesn’t feel worthy and the secret he carries is slowly tearing him apart.

Tori’s the girl I want to wake up to every morning and lie down with every night, but I can’t do it. I’ll hurt her eventually. She needs a “nice guy,” and that’s not me.

Tori Preston has been best friends with Brady’s sister Liv since forever. Her father's job is taking them to Minnesota. Not wanting to relocate, she is able to live with her best friend Liv and her family. Live has two brothers; Tug whom she adores and Brady. She loathes Brady; he is after all the one responsible for ending her 3 year relationship with Jake. Knowing Jake has cheated on her in the past, Brady wants to show Tori what a scum Jake truly is but ended up humiliated her by setting Jake up to cheat for her and all her friends to witness. Heart broken and betrayed she has sworn off men, especially Brady. He was supposed to be her friend. The thing is Tori also denies the fact that she is in love with Brady. Thank goodness for Tug, their younger brother, he makes the mood fun and the house an easier place to be, especially since she is stuck with Brady all summer.

“Wait, you did that back there on purpose, didn’t you? You wanted me to see.” I do a lousy job of hiding my rage, and his silence tells me I’m right. “I hate you, Brady.”

“Good, I need you to hate me, Victoria.”

Attempting to be friends, Brady can’t help but be near Tori. Tori knows that Brady is keeping secrets and she wants to help him but he continues to shut her out and continues to confuse her.  He says he wants her, he kisses her and then he pushes her away. The notes he leaves her make her heart melt. Something has changed in the confident man she once knew and she has no idea how to help him. When their friendship turns into something much more, Tori knows her heart is on the line but risks it anyway.

“I take her face in my hands. “God, that was f$#cking incredible, Sunshine. I’ll never get enough of you.” I give her a quick peck. “I love you.”

Both finally happy to be with each other, things seem to be going along fine until one night at the beach. A part of Brady’s secret is revealed and when he explains it to Tori who in turn is completely understanding and support, he freaks out, gets angry, shuts her out and runs;leaving Tori devastated and broken hearted. Falling into a depression Brady’s younger brother Tug is able to get through to her. Spending more and more time together, Tori realizes that she has feelings for Tug that are more than the “just friends” kind. Slowly they begin to explore those feelings. When Brady realizes the huge mistake he made by running away from Tori, he returns home only to find out he may be too late.

”What the f*@k is wrong with you? If she was your girl, you wouldn’t have just spilt on her like you did. You would have stayed here and worked it out. Worshipped her the way she deserves. Typical, Brady, f*@king typical.”

“I know that I f*@king love that girl, and I know you’re a f*@king a$$hole who doesn’t deserve her.”

“Did you even consider letting her go? Letting me have something for once? I f*@king hate you Brady!”

This story was AMAZING. I was sucked in from the very beginning.

Tori is a woman who is healing from a broken heart but she is also a woman who has denied her true feelings for the one she really loves. She is selfless, caring, smart, witty and a bit clumsy.

Her best friend Liv is hilarious, a bit boy crazy, nosy, fun and supportive. She knows that there is something between Tori and her brother; anyone can feel the chemistry they share between each other just by looking at them.  Liv is supportive in her friend’s choices.

Then you have Tug. To me, Tug is nerdy sheik, extremely handsome but doesn’t flaunt it. He is humble but confident. He is a genius and is funny and he is very observant. I fell in LOVE with Tug, how can you not? I loved the flirtatious banter between him and Tori.

Brady, oh Brady. He is so tortured and so in love with Tori. So much so, that his ex-girlfriend tells him to go to her. Carrying a lot of secrets and lies that his parents hide Brady feels guilty and unworthy of being loved and yet he keeps it all inside so that his sister and brother are protected from the ugly truth. He is simply amazing- and the love notes on the tissue. PRICELESS!

This book has it all; heartache, friendship, jealousy, life lessons, suspense and most of all love. Oh and there is a WTF shocking moment when you're like- Did that bitch really just do that and say all of those things? WOW!

All I am going to day is be sure to grab a fan and some cold water because the sex scenes are HOT HOT HOT!

KJ Bell wrote a fantastic story. She knocked me off of my feet. I had one hell of a book hang over with this.

I look forward to more of Brady and the gang in future books.

This is an absolute MUST READ!!! Definitely one of my top books of 2013!

Our Interview with Brady and Tori

"Here we are ladies." Kristie says as she puts the car in park. "This is their restaurant?" Lisa asks curiously. "Yes, this place has a special meaning to both of them and it has really great mexican food."  Kristie, Lisa and Jen walk into the restaurant. We take a look around and Jennifer spots Brady and Tori standing by the booth waving us over. We walk over to them and Lisa extends her hand out saying "Hello Brady and Tori, I am Lisa and this is Kristie and Jen. We are the Three Chicks. Thank you so much for meeting with us today." Jen excitedly says "OMG Congratulations! You two are going to make wonderful parents." We get settled into the both and Kristie says " Should we take a look at the menu and order a few appetizers?" Everyone nods in agreement. We place our order and as the waitress walks away Jen says "Alrighty then. Let's get started, shall we?"

Three Chicks: Brady- At what moment did you realize you were in love with Tori?

Brady: I was absolutely positive the night I set Jake up with Savannah so Tori could see him for the cheater he is. I laughed when she found him and when she spun to face me, my heart broke. I’d put that sad look on her face and I hated myself for it. I knew right then and there, I was in love with her because all I wanted to do was take it back.

Three Chicks: Brady-Vanessa will forever have a special place in your heart. You stated she was your best friend, why did you get romantically involved when you knew in your heart that Tori owned it all along?

Brady:At first, it was because I knew Tori was with Jake. When I saw them together, she wasn’t just with him. She was in love with him. I didn’t think I could compete with Jake for Tori’s heart, so, I got together with Vanessa hoping to forget about Tori. As wrong as it was, I used her. Then after Jake, Tori told me she hated me. I knew I was in love with her and I wanted to explain, but my life had grown so complicated that I decided she was better off without me in it.

Three Chicks:Brady- If you could have one do-over, what would it be?

Brady: Shit, only one? I need about a hundred. I think I’d go back and tell Tori everything. Starting from the minute I knew I had feelings for her. She wouldn’t have wasted another minute of her time with Jake. She would’ve been with me when I learned about my family. I’m certain if she was by my side, I would’ve done things differently and maybe that would’ve saved Vanessa. I know her and Tori would’ve made quite a pair.

Three Chicks:Brady- What was going through your mind when you realized you may have lost Tori for good?

Brady: It was a truly hopeless feeling. I couldn’t stop thinking about what would happen if she chose Tug. You know? (Shrugs) I mean, what would I have done when I came home and had to see them together. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got with myself.

Three Chicks: Brady- How has helping out at the youth center in Mexico helped you in everyday life?

Brady:It’s crazy how much you can learn from a group of kids who have nothing. I’ve learned to appreciate every second of everyday. Going there’s a reminder to cherish the ones you love. They can be gone tomorrow.

Three Chicks: Brady-You kept warning Tori that you weren’t a good person, when the truth came out about what happened with Vanessa and Tori DIDN’T run, why did you?

Brady: Because I was an idiot! And, I knew deep down that Shelia was going to do something drastic when she found out how everything came out. I thought I was protecting Tori.

Three Chicks:Tori-You knew that Jake was cheating on you prior to that party. When Brady brought that fact to light, were you truly mad at him or mad at yourself?

Tori: Both, I guess. When I realized Brady did it on purpose, I was heartbroken and confused. I was mad at myself because I stayed with Jake so long. But I was furious with Brady because I felt betrayed.

Three Chicks: Tori- Since the horrible incident with Sheila went down, has it changed your relationship with your own parents? Especially with your mother?

Tori: It has immensely, and in the best way possible. I’d always expected my mother to be perfect and never make mistakes, because she’s my mom. I realized after everything happened, that no one’s perfect, and you should love your family for who they are, not who you expect them to be.

Three Chicks: Tori- What is your favorite tissue note from Brady?

Tori:The morning after everything went down with Shelia, I was worried it would change things between us. He must’ve sensed it. He handed me a tissue with a little heart on it and the words, It will never belong to anyone else.

Three Chicks: Tori-At what point did you realize that Brady was the love of your life?

Tori: It was probably the same night Brady realized how he felt about me. When I learned Brady set Jake up, I thought it was so I would look foolish. It hurt so much. I would never have been so hurt if I wasn’t in love with Brady. I did everything I could to deny it, but my heart always knew the truth.

Three Chicks: Tori-How did it make you feel when Brady took you to TJ and showed you what he has been doing at the youth center?

Tori: Honestly it floored me. I’d never seen that side of him. I always thought he was a little self centered. (Brady scoffs, Tori rolls her eyes) And a lot cocky! It was so unexpected that it took me a while to absorb it. He showed me something, he’d never shared with anyone and it made me feel special. It also made it harder to keep denying my feelings for him.

Three Chicks: The next few questions are for the both of you- You are about to become parents, What is your biggest fear and what do you look forward to the most?

Brady: All of it, but mostly getting through the delivery. (Looks down)

Tori: (strokes Brady’s knee) It’s going be fine, Brady. (Looks at Chicks) He’s worried because of what happened to his mom. I keep telling him medicine has come a long way since then. Besides, everything has been great with this pregnancy. This baby and I are in perfect health.

Brady: It’s not just that, although, that’s a big part of it. I’m going to be responsible for another person. It’s a lot to come to terms with.

Tori: No one is perfect. We’ll make mistakes. Everyone does.

Brady: I can’t wait. I look forward to all of it. I’m in love with this baby already and I’m going to make sure this baby knows that.

Tori: (Tori smiles) You’re going to be a great dad, Brady.

Three Chicks: Brady- Do you have closure now, knowing that your father really did love you and wanted to be a part of your life? Tori- How are you dealing with everything?

Brady: I do have closure, but that doesn’t make it easier. Every passing day helps. It’s difficult because there are so many things I want to ask him and I can’t. I try not to get angry when I think about everything that was taken from me. I don’t always succeed, but I try.

Tori: I’m hanging in there. Some days are harder than others. I know when Brady disappears to play the drums, he’s going through something. I try to give him the space to do so.

Three Chicks:Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Brady: Married with a houseful of babies.

Tori: (laughs) Slow this train down, Casanova. One baby at a time. (Brady chuckles) We’ve talked about marriage. I was an only child, so I’d like to have another one (looks at Brady) eventually. In five years, I hope to be finished with school and maybe have a career.

Brady: Perfect, then I can be Mr. Mom to our houseful of babies. (both laugh)

Three Chicks: Has your relationship with Liv and Tug and even Harrison changed?

Tori: With Tug, it hasn’t changed one bit. Which is surprising considering everything that happened, but he’s the same obnoxious little shit he’s always been. If it’s possible, Liv and I are closer now. She’s my sister. I would do anything for her to see her happy. Harrison, well, I feel like we owe him for his interference. I’m not sure we’d be where we are today without him.

Brady: I agree. Tug is the same old Tug. He’s kind of the glue that holds us all together. When things seem heavy, he makes them light. The three of us are even closer now than we were growing up. The bond is tight and I would die for either of them. Harrison is one of my best friends. I can never repay him for what he’s done for my family.

Three Chicks:What is your best “I would rather” line?

Brady: (Brady laughs) I got one.

Tori: What?

Brady: Nothing, you just said it to me once when we were…

Tori: (Blushes) Oh, my God! You can’t tell them that.

Brady: (Brady smirks) Why not? It was your best.

Tori: (Tori shoves Brady in the arm) For you, maybe.

Brady: We were going to…well…you know and she said, she’d rather go down on me.

Tori: I can’t believe you just said that. Couldn’t you have said “I’d rather lick a urinal”, or something? Seriously, you’re going to pay later.

Brady: (Brady laughs) I can’t wait.

Tori: (Tori smiles and shakes her head) Next question, please, before he really gets started.

Three Chicks: Have either of you heard from Jake since ummm Brady told him how uh, how amazing your mouth is? (All Three Chicks giggle and blush)

At the same time: Brady: No! Tori: Yes

Brady: What? You never told me that.

Tori: It was right after everything happened. You were going through enough. He sent a couple of texts. It was no big deal. (Tori looks at her lap)

Brady: It is a big deal! You should have told me. Fuck…I’m kicking his ass!

Tori: No you’re not, Brady. He went back to school and I haven’t heard from him since. I’m sure he’s met someone and forgotten all about me.

Brady: We’re not done talking about this, but it can wait until we’re somewhere private.

Tori: (arms crossed over her chest) Fine!

Now we have some questions for your boss lady....

Three Chicks: When did you know you wanted to write?

KJ Bell: Writing literally found me. When my middle child was small, she would wave at cemeteries. No one was in them, and when I would ask her who she was waving at, she would say, “The people.” I shared this story with a few friends, who had theories about kids having a “6th sense”. I started to really think about it and decided it would make a great book. For the next six years, a book wrote itself in my head. I finally decided to get it on paper. 250 pages into The Locket, I knew writing was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

Three Chicks: How did you come up with this story and characters?

KJ Bell: I wanted to write a book in this genre and most of the story and characters came to me in random thoughts when my mind would wander, except for, Tug. I have a three year old that is constantly tugging on my shirt. I decided it would be funny to have a character named “Tug” and have that be the reason for the name. I knew he needed to be witty and light, yet with a heart of gold to counter Brady’s dark and angry side.

Three Chicks: Who are the authors that inspired you to write?

KJ Bell: Jessica Park is a huge inspiration to me. I love her writing. But, more than that, she knows who she is and will always stay true to that. She has a strong literary backbone and I think that’s important. J.A. Redmerski, also. She has a gift for developing characters and delivering the story in a way that makes the reader feel every emotion. That’s something that I strive for.

Three Chicks: What character stole your heart?

KJ Bell: This will probably come as no surprise to you. Tug has owned my heart since the moment I began developing him, as my friends will all attest to. Though, I must admit, I love both him and Brady, and was as conflicted in my feelings for the two of them while writing as Tori was in the story. LOL

Three Chicks: If you were a character in this book, who would you be and why?

KJ Bell: Can I be Jesse? (laughs) He doesn’t have a care in the world and only had to watch the drama from afar. I’m kidding, of course. It would be, Tori because she matured and learned from her experience. I’d like to believe there is room for growth in all of us.

"You two are really great together. Your baby is going to be a looker!" Kristie says blushing while taking a peak at Brady. "Again, it was so great to meet you both and thanks so much for meeting with us." Jen says while we all stand to leave. "What you are doing with the center and for all those kids is so very honorable. You should be extremely proud of yourselves." Lisa says while giving them both a hug goodbye.
