Blog Tour: Ride by J.C. Emery

Ride Synopsis:
Principessa to the Mancuso crime family, Alexandra knows a thing or two about living outside the bounds of the law. Suffocated by the future her father has laid out for her, she makes a choice she can't take back, changing the entire trajectory of her life.
Thrust into the dark and dangerous world of the Forsaken Motorcycle Club for her own protection, Alex finds herself faced with the last thing she needs right now: the man of her dreams. He’s sex in leather, the devil incarnate, and one hell of a kisser. But he’s also off-limits. Ryan Stone can be her friend, but he’s forbidden to be her lover.
Third-generation Forsaken, Ryan knows nothing other than life on two wheels, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He enjoys the many privileges that come with the patch, and the only laws he recognizes are the ones set-forth by his club. That is, until who he wants more than anything isn’t allowed on the back of his bike —or in his bed. Balancing his desire for her body, and need to keep her safe, Ryan tries to keep Alex at a distance. Finally having made a choice for herself, she’s done hearing the word “no” and will push boundaries even Ryan himself doesn’t dare cross.
Love is never more tempting than when it’s forbidden.
4 Star review by Jen Hagen

Alexandra is 19 years old and is a daughter of a mob boss.  She knows her place in her family business is to keep quiet and listen to what she is told to do.  Alexandra has a twin brother who is working his way up in the ranks of the family while Alexandra is the family’s “principessa” and will soon be involved with a young man of her father’s choosing.  The story begins with the family hosting a wake for Uncle Sal who died with a bullet hole to the throat for being a “rat.”  He was family and he still had to face the consequences.  The evening of the wake Alexandra is faced with a choice.  Unfortunately her choice does not sit well with the family.

It’s in this moment I’d never be able to take back.  It’s this moment that shoots everything I have ever known to hell.  It’s that moment my life comes crumbling down – the moment I became a rat.

In order to save her life, Alexandra is taken in by a motorcycle club.  Ryan is the son to the motorcycle club president and he knows that the club patch on his vest always comes first.  He is not to get involved with Alexandra and likewise Alexandra is told that all the boys in the club are off limits to her.  There is an immediate pull between Ryan and Alexandra and they both try to fight it.

Ryan is like a game of Russian roulette with a loaded gun.  It doesn’t matter how it ends, it’s not going to end well.

Ryan is the typical bad-boy member of a motorcycle club that we often read about and have come to love.  Ryan loves the women and the women love him.  Ryan exudes sex everywhere he goes and with anything he does.  Ryan tries to fight his attraction to Alexandra and there are tender unspoken moments that are unseen by the other members with the quick interlock of pinky fingers.  Ryan is constantly being reminded of where his loyalty lies…with the club.

Alexandra is safe with the club, but she doesn’t fit in this life and she didn’t fit in her life back home in Brooklyn.  Alexandra struggles to know where she belongs along with where her loyalties lay, and eventually the truth comes out and throws her down hard.

…I want to deny it.  I want to call bullshit and tell her she’s done a few too many recreational drugs over the years, but somewhere in a dark recess of my heart, I believe her.

After reeling from this life-changing information, Alexandra pulls herself inward and withdraws from everybody.  High stake danger is becoming more prevalent and security is vamped up.  Alexandra now requires constant protection and who better to provide the night-shift supervision than Ryan.  Here’s their chance to finally give in to their secret desires.  No matter how strong he is, Ryan will not be able to fight the power of their feelings for each other and the declaration of love.

“And this is a promise of protection.  I’ll protect your heart because I love you.”
This is the first book in a series.  It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but leaves plenty of room for the characters to continue their story into the second book which will focus on secondary characters.
