Starfish and
Coffee
by Kele Moon
BLURB:
On the
island where they first met, two
lovers from opposite sides of the tracks are reunited. Now jaded and broken,
Alex and Matt still can’t deny their sizzling connection or the memories of one
perfect, uninhibited year together.
At twenty-two, Matt Tarrington
is rich, good-looking and destined to be powerful, but behind that confident
exterior lurks a man who resents the life his family thrust upon him. Wanting an
escape, Matt heads to Mirabella Island off the coast of Florida for a year of
relaxation and a few wild nights with vacationing party-girls.
Matt never expected to find real
passion in the arms of Alex Hunter, a handsome, laid-back local. Alex is gay,
but closeted. Knowing Matt should be off limits, Alex finds the deeply-in-denial
rich boy too tempting to ignore. Especially when a bet has them working
together, fighting the heat in the rundown, beach side cafe where Alex sweats for
every dollar.
Their love felt inevitable until
youth left them vulnerable to hatred and greed. After six years of hating the
lies they live to make others happy, they will have to risk it all for the
second chance they both desperately need.
Our 5 star review:
Starfish and Coffee by Kele Moon was an amazing story of two men finding love when least expected. It is a story that will stay with you and one the will melt your heart.
This book is about Alex and Matt, two men from opposite sides of the tracks who fall for each other in a way neither of them thought possible. Alex is a local on Mirabella Island and Matt comes from a very wealthy family who spent many of summers on the island that Alex lives on.
Matt needed a break from his family before taking over the family business and decided to spend it on Mirabella Island working at a local diner. The same local diner where Matt meets Alex, and unbeknownst to them, the place that will change their lives forever. Alex is gay, but except for his best friend Holly, no one else knows. Alex keeps his sexuality a secret for fear of being rejected by the small town that he lives in. When he meets Matt he can't help the feelings he has for him and he cannot deny the attraction. Alex and Matt are from opposite sides of the tracks and Alex knows that Matt should be off limits.
Matt is rich, good looking and determined to be powerful, but on his own terms. Matt goes to Mirabella Island, a place his family frequented when he was a kid, to relax for a year before taking over the family business. He takes a job at the local diner because of a bet with his friends. He expects to relax, party and meet woman while he is there. But the last thing he expects is to fall in love, with another man. Matt and Alex have this instant connection, that Matt tries to deny. He can quite wrap his head around the way he feels when he is with Alex. He has never considered himself to be gay and it certainly is not something that would be acceptable in the prestigious world his family lives in.
The books starts with Alex 6 yrs after his relationship with Matt ended and you still see the heartache that he has been living with since then. Matt has come back to the island and walks in the diner where he first met the only man he would ever love. Kele Moon then takes the reader back in time to when they first met. The love the two of them share is so emotional and so real. What starts out as being just a phase, in Matt's mind, turns into a love that is so pure, and heartwarming. Matty and Alex do everything they can to keep their relationship a secret from everyone. But when the one person they are trying to keep their secret from the most finds out, it destroys their relationship. Hearts and trust are broken, and no matter how much they love each other, sometimes love may not be enough.
What happens when the only man you ever loved walks back into your life six years later? Matty is back in town and it is obvious that the love they felt for each other is still there and as strong as it was the day they broke up. Can these two get their second chance and find happiness? Of course you will have to read to find out.
Kele Moon does an amazing job with connecting the readers to Matty and Alex. You feel their connection and all the emotions that they go through. You are rooting for them to find the the happiness they deserve. And all though you know the break up is coming, it does not make it any easier when it happens. Your heart will break for the two of them. I was so wonderful to watch these two men fall in love. The sex scenes were hot, the sweet tender moments will make you smile and the nicknames they have for each other will melt your heart. This was a beautifully well written love story between two men who fight the odds against them for the second chance at love and happiness. Kele Moon is an amazing and talented author and did a wonderful job with Matty and Lexi's story. This is a 5 star must read.

Excerpt:
“Are you?” Matt’s simple
question cut through the tension in the air, his voice low with something that
made every hair on Alex’s body stand on end.
“Am I what?” Alex asked, still
trying to think past the dread and lust and booze all pounding through his
bloodstream.
“Gay?”
Matt’s voice hitched as he
said it. The fear of the moment had obviously caught up with him, the
realization that he’d just set himself up for something so socially taboo he’d
lose everything if it ever got out. Alex had never experienced that feeling. Not
his first time, nor any of the encounters after. He’d known he was gay since he
was old enough to know what it meant. There was no shocking moment when
something that had been nothing but a forbidden fantasy suddenly
became startlingly visceral and real.
This was always supposed to be
Alex’s reality.
Alex answered him by setting the
whiskey in the sand and then leaning over. Matt had asked for it, but he still
jerked in shock when Alex cupped his cheek, softly, like a lover instead of a
friend. He met Matt’s eyes, seeing the light orbs grow wide and terrified as the
reflection of the flames danced in them.
Knowing Matt was two seconds
away from freaking out, Alex pushed his hand into Matt’s hair, held him there,
and kissed him. Matt’s entire body was tense, but he didn’t shove Alex away.
Seeing that as a good sign, he licked at Matt’s lips, needing more than the
chaste press of lips against lips.
With a guttural groan that went
straight to Alex’s cock, Matt surprised him by opening for more, and Alex pushed
in, eager to taste all of him. The heady flavor of whiskey on both their tongues
only served to fuel the flames. The smell of Matt’s expensive cologne that still
clung to his skin even after working all day, the sweat and sea salt on both of
them: it was all perfect and masculine. Alex was never more grateful to be born
gay than he was right then.
About the Author:
A freckle faced, redhead born
and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has
come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and
finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad
passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she
believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no
bounds.
So obsessed is she with the
beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder
world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding
hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her
grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the
oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in
Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and
challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.
