Lily Black is determined to make it in the culinary industry. She's taken a chance; left her hometown in Texas behind her and is in New York- a Mecca for the restaurant industry. She's staying with her beastie, Josephine Keller. She's usually at her boyfriend Julian's place anyway so this should work out until they she gets her break. But things aren't going so well and she hasn't even landed a waitressing job yet.
Dean Harper is one of New York's top restaurateurs. He's only 33, he's rich and he's a visionary. He's driven to succeed and to prove to all that he can do anything he sets his mind to doing. He loves women and loves sex, but a relationship would only hold him back from the drive he needs to keep up with his businesses. He just happens to be Julian LeFray's best friend.
I yearned for nothing, lacked for nothing, and yet still, I pushed myself harder.
Why?
Because some people just like a challenge.
Lily finds out about a job at Provisions and ends up filling in as the bartender. She's quick, innovative and on target. She gathers quite the crowd around her as she does her thing. And the bar brings in four times the amount of money it normally would have, but Dean Harper just happens to be there that night and she rubs him the wrong way. He ends up firing her and humiliating her in front of everyone. Can you say asshat?
"Lily had her first night at Provisions last night and she turned my bar into a Coyote Ugly knockoff."
My eyes bulged out of my face. Literally. They had to have fallen out of my skull in response to the amount of bullshit he'd just spewed. I glanced at the ground, confirmed my eyeballs were not in fact lying there, and then stepped close to Dean with my finger pointed right at his chest.
The two are like dynamite and a match. They just can not stand being in the same room together. The chemistry is undeniable, but they are both stubborn and opinionated. But since their friends are together, fate is going to be a bitch and keeps putting them in the same room. But that gives them lots of opportunities to play mind games with each other. Both are upping their antes for this one. Both are determined to get the other.
Lily does end up working for Dean, but only because he wants to keep the enemy close to home. She has some great ideas for his newest Spanish tapas restaurant he wants to open, but he keeps shooting them down. He lets her know repeatedly, that he is the boss and she works for him.
"There's a fine line between persistence and annoyance."
My cheeks flamed at his critique, but a fire grew in my veins. If he wanted to take this dinner from pleasant to painful, why should I bother doing anything otherwise?
"Is that the same line that falls between being a control freak and just being an asshole?"
There is lots of intrigue in this one. But of course it's the steam between Dean and Lily that drives this story. Eventually they give in and hook up. Lily tells herself and Dean that this is sex only. But is it?
If only she and I could shut up for ten minutes, the sex would be the best of our lives. Angry. Hard. Fast. Not love. Not even close.
War.
Dean is equally determined that he won't let himself fall for her, he can't let anything get in the way of his dreams. But that makes for one lonely life doesn't it?
The Allure of Dean Harper is witty, sophisticated, funny and down right hot. Loved this latest one from RS Grey.

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things...everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I'm a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.
