Review by Jen Skewes

Epic Lies is the second installment in the Epic Sins series.  This is Dax and Giselle’s story.  Two people who have had their hearts broken in the past, been betrayed and lied to.  And because of if they are still a bit damaged from it today.  When they first met you could see there was a bit of a connection between the two of them.  They met in a way that I loved because it was different and even a little bit unconventional.  But you knew in that moment that there was something there.  There was this ease when it came to conversation between the two of them, like they knew each other before even meeting.  After that day they kept bumping into each other, finding themselves in the same places at the same time.  It was as if fate was trying to tell them something.  Yes these two definitely belonged together, but they needed to get past their issues in order to do that.

Dax is the drummer for the very popular rock band Epic Lies.  But he is not your typical rock star.  He has been betrayed and lied to in the past, even had his heart broken more than once.  But he isn’t that guy who goes out and has meaningless sex with countless women.  He doesn’t do relationships but he is also not out every weekend with a different girl either.  When he meets Giselle there is just something about her.  He cannot stop thinking about her but knows that he needs to stay away.  He doesn’t want to hurt her and he cannot be the man that she deserves, the man who will love her and be there like she needs.

Giselle lost so much as a teenager.  She had her heart broken and has been hurt too many times.  She is a fun loving girl who has a great family but she has just been hurt too many times.  And that has affected her today.  She too has a wall around her heart and is afraid of falling for Dax for fear of having it broken all over again.  She knows she is starting to fall for him, but is also unsure of how he feels towards her.  He is a rock star who could have any woman that he wants.  But he wants her even if he cannot admit it.  They both need to put the past behind them in order to find love again, to be able to trust again and to open up their heart again.

I really enjoyed this book.  I love all of Ms. Stiles books and this one was a a little different from the rest of them.  I really loved the characters and the moments that Dax and Giselle shared were fun, sweet and at times sad.  I loved the writing and the story line but there was also something missing for me.  I didn’t feel those emotions that I normally get while reading one of Ms. Stiles books.  Which wasn't so much an issue but I wanted more of Giselee and Dax in the present.  We learned a lot about their past as this book alternates back and forth.  But for me personally I would have liked to have learned about their past as they were telling it to each other.  I think maybe I would have felt the connection and the emotion more.

Overall I really loved this book even if I wanted a little more.  I loved Giselle ad Dax and the moments that they shared together.   I loved that we get to see the rest of the Epic Lies crew, not only in the past but in the present as well.  Dax and Alex have a great friendship and I loved that we get to see that in this one.  Mia is Giselle's best friend who has been through it all with her.  She was a great addition to the cast and hope that she gets a book of her own, perhaps with one of the members of the band?!?!  Looking forward to the next one.
