Review: Pretty as a Peach by Juliette Poe

Mainer Farms is steeped in family history, but it’s also deep in debt from the effects of the ever-changing farming industry. Not about to let his family’s legacy go under, Colt Mancinkus is willing to do anything he can to save the farm.

Darby Culhane is the new farmer in Whynot, North Carolina, and she’s proving to be quite the forbidden temptation for Colt. Darby isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start, and she’s got it all figured out. Get settled in? Check. Apply for the rural county grant? Check. Confrontation with the steaming mad, smoking hot local farmer? Well, that wasn’t on the agenda.

As pretty as she is sweet, Colt can’t help but be drawn to Darby’s…peaches. No really, she’s a peach farmer. Get that mind out of the gutter, and get on down to the farm to see what happens when circumstances force Colt and Darby to team up. They may just find that the peach trees aren’t the only things in bloom.

I just adore this series.  It is fun, light, sexy and I just love the Mancinkus family and the little town of Whynot.  But it isn’t just about this family, the many residents of this small town as well as each new member of the Mancinkus family is what makes this series so enjoyable to read.  Pretty as a Peach is Colt’s story, the youngest brother of the family.

Colt has taken on the task of running his family’s large farm, which currently needs a lot of help, mainly financial help.  He has applied for a grant to help him with his current plans for the farm, but there is someone else, new to own, who also wants that grant.

Darby is a newly single mom who has just moved to Whynot.    Her ex brother-in-law bought a peach farm and after her marriage fell apart, moving to this small town to run the farm is the perfect move for her right now.  Not only is she getting away from her ex but she will also be working on her thesis as well as doing something that she loves.  She knows that she is in competition with Colt for this grant, but she hasn’t actually met him, only heard about it.   When they finally do meet they Colt is nothing that she expected him to be and Colt’s reaction to Darby is the same.

The physical attraction between the both of them is quite evident from the start.  This is the woman that Colt is supposed to hate for possibly ruining his chances of bettering his family’s farm.  But once he sees her, he is quite taken by her and her charm.  She has a lot of baggage and right now is not the time for her to be starting something new where love is concerned.  But there is something about Colt that makes her want to get to know him.  With a farm to run, a daughter to take care of and an ex who won’t go away, will Colt and Darby get to know each other on a different level?

I loved Colt and Darby together.  From the moment they met, there was that wonderful flirty banter and you just knew that no matter what happened with the grant these two would be anything but enemies.

Darby is a great heroine who just wants to give her daughter a good life. Her ex-husband is a creep who I just wanted to go away.  And her daughter Linnie is the cutest 7 year old ever and I loved how well her and Colt became quick friends.  That man is sweet, caring, sexy and just an amazing guy.

I love this series and love visiting all of my favorite characters.  I feel like I love in this town with them.  This may be Colt and Darby’s story but we get to see all of the characters we love, from Colt’s siblings, their significant others, Pap and even the local residents.  This series always manages to just make me smile.  I cannot wait for Larkin’s story and hopefully find more out about this new mystery B & B guest.
