If I could give 10 stars for this novel from Mia Sheridan- I would. I can't even judge it on a star system. That is how hard my world was rocked by it. Not only was it another scorching novel- but the story; it touched me in a way I never thought possible. Mia has the ability to draw you inside, and keep you there- to weave a world that I wanted to get lost in, for days. Typically, I read really fast- I have to know what happens. But I found myself reading faster and slower at the same time. Faster because I really wanted to know Archer's story, slower because I never wanted it to end. I felt like I became part of the story. I could imagine all of the characters, what they looked like, how they felt and how they lived. Can I just say, Worst.Book.Hangover.Ever. SO MANY FEELINGS!! I just really connect with Mia's writing, and I cannot wait for more.
Bree is the heroine of the novel- and I absolutely love her. Bree was raised by her father, and he made her into a completely selfless, loving, and determined woman. She is running from a sad event that happened in her past. When she stumbles upon the town of Pelion, Maine- a town that she had visited once with her parents when she was little and she was happy- what she doesn't know is that her life is about to change, forever. Unsure of what she's looking for, she runs into Archer outside the drugstore one night. She doesn't know who he is, but those whiskey colored eyes have her pulled in. Whiskey colored eyes is what I think of when I think of Archer. That image alone had me mesmerized, as well as Bree.
Bree is unhappy with the picture that the town paints of Archer- and she is determined to get to know him to prove them wrong. She seeks him out, and they develop a friendship that soon moves into more. But will Archer be able to get over his insecurities? His whole life he has been made to feel he is not wanted, or not good enough.
"The most beautiful kind of fate."
That line gets me, like they were and are meant to be.
"Once he had kissed me, his first kiss, this I knew, it would never be the same again."
Archer is a sheltered man, and has been most of his life. He was raised by his uncle- who was a bit odd, and a recluse himself.
Archer is not your typical alpha, caveman hero- he is a shattered broken shell of a man- but believe this, he has been one of my favorite heroes to read. He is so simple, but also complex. He had my stomach in knots the whole story. He may not be the perfect hero for everyone, but he was the perfect hero for me- and also for Bree.
"It does hurt. It does because I'm afraid to love you. I'm afraid you'll leave and i'll go back to being alone. Only it'll be 100 times worse because I'll know what I'm missing... I want to be able to love you more than I fear losing you, and I don't know how. Teach me Bree. Please teach me. Don't let me destroy this."
This story is one I won't ever forget. It's written with such fervor and passion- much like all of Mia's stories. You have to read it- to see the true value and worth it has. Unless I read something else completely life changing this year- it already has my top spot in books from 2014- and it's not even February yet!
Don't ever stop writing Mia- you will ALWAYS have me as a huge fan and I will read anything you write.
