After Tuesday is a wonderful, light, refreshing read about love, hope and learning to find happiness. It is about a young 17 year old girl named Ruby who moved to a little town in Illinois two years ago because her father needed a job and the only one he could find was with her uncle. She once had a good relationship with her father, but that changed when the bottle became more important than her. She is living in a new town, with no friends and seems to have lost the father she once knew so well. She feels alone and is basically left to take care of herself. She gets a job at a summer camp where she meets her best friend Lexi, who I loved. She is there for Ruby in every way a best friend should be. One Friday afternoon Brent Cromwell comes to pick his little brother up at camp. Now Brent Cromwell is the hottest guy in Ruby's school, the guy that is dating the most popular girl in school and the guy that every girl dreams of dating. Lucky for Ruby, Brent and his girlfriend are no longer together and he is now interested in seeing her.I loved Brent! Remember when you were in high school and there was that one cute guy who you liked. When he would look your way you would get all nervous and your face would turn red from blushing. Or when he spoke to you, you would get butterflies in your stomach. And when he kissed you he made you feel things you didn't know existed. Well for Ruby, that guy was Brent Cromwell. Brent put a smile on her face, she felt the butterflies in her stomach when she was with him. She loved being with him and she found that she was happy when she was. There was no denying it, she was falling for Brent. She experienced a lot of firsts with Brent and I have to say if there is any guy to have those first moments with it would be Brent Cromwell.
Brent may be the most popular and hottest guy in school but he is nothing like the guy you would expect him to be. He isn't your typical obnoxious jock who thinks he is God's gift to woman, I knew a few of them in high school. But instead, Brent is sweet, caring, romantic and has a heart. I loved him with Ruby and I loved what they had. Ruby was afraid of Brent finding out the truth about her father. She was afraid if he knew the truth he wouldn't want to be with her any more. I think in many ways Ruby was ashamed of her father and his issues and tried as best as she could to hide it from not only Brent but Lexi as well. Brent made a few mistakes along the way that completely frustrated me but you have to remember he is young and he let his assumptions get in the way of what was real. But he still managed to capture my heart and Ruby's and made up for his mistakes.
After Tuesday is a wonderful read. It's a wonderful love story but there is also the underlying issue of addiction and how it affects Ruby's life. Ruby is a young girl struggling with her father's addiction and at the same time trying to find herself, find what makes her happy. It's a struggle for her, wanting to be there to take care of her father but at the same time it shouldn't be the responsibility of someone her age to do. She suddenly finds herself becoming the parent and her father is the child that she has to take care of. It's not fair for someone so young to take on that burden. Her story and her struggles broke my heart at times. But she has an amazing best friend who is willing to stand by her side. And a wonderful boyfriend who she must learn to let in and trust. This story is a sweet romantic read but there are moments that will completely break your heart. Ruby and Brent are perfect together, but may not necessarily have the perfect relationship. They have their ups and downs just like any relationship, but they learn that trust is key to their relationship. Ruby is strong and a fighter and I loved that about her. She was in a tough situation but did her best to make it work and survive. Brent is kind and sweet and every girl's dream and I loved him.
Renee Ericson has done an amazing job with this story. It is an emotional journey, but one worth taking. I fell in love with Ruby and Brent and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them in the next book. Job well done by Ms. Ericson.
Forgotten Yesterday- 4 Star Review by Jen Skewes
I loved Ruby and Brent and could not wait for more of them. Forgotten Yesterday takes place five years later. The last time we saw Ruby and Brent they were happily together and looking forward to their future together. But things change. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have no choice but to deal with it. What Brent and Ruby went through is something that will either bring two people together or tear them a part. And unfortunately for Brent and Ruby the latter was true. Renee Ericson takes us on their journey going back and forth from the present to the past. We learn what happened over the last 5 years that has lead us to Brent and Ruby's current situation. I won't go into too much detail but this story certainly has it's heart breaking moments. I am a big fan of Brent and Ruby and honestly it was sad to read the beginning knowing that something happened to them a few years back that had caused issues in their relationship. But such is life, things happen out of our control and for Brent and Ruby they knew that more than anyone. They were two people who were so deeply in love so I needed to know what happened and found myself not wanting to put this novella down. Their story felt so real and so emotional. And I honestly felt so bad for these two.
It is now 5 years later and fate has stepped in. And yes I believe that it was fate because these two are simply meant to be together. Brent happens to walk into the place that Ruby now works at. He just happens to be in town for one day, and in the same town that she lives in. See, fate. You instantly feel the love and connection that these two have. Ad no matter how long it has been since they have been together, their love for each other never died. I was on pins and needles reading this book. What will happen to them Will the find their way back to each other. Will they finally get their happily ever after?
I think Renee did a fantastic job with their story. It was emotional and you felt the emotion with the two of them. You felt the love between them and what they went through is something that I think a lot of people can relate to. I am rooting for these two and hope that they will find their way back to each. In the end I was left wanting more and hoping they get their happily ever after. Looking forward to the next one and seeing where their journey takes us.
Deciding Tomorrow - 5 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Deciding Tomorrow is the final installment in the These Days series and it was fantastic. I honestly missed these two characters so much. When we first met them we fell in love with them and watched their teenage romance grow. But then we saw the sad circumstances that threatened the love that they had and how much it had an affect on their relationship. Deciding Tomorrow is Brent and Ruby's second chance at love and happiness with each other. Deciding Tomorrow begins right where we left off. After five years of being a part fate has intervened and brought Brent and Ruby back together. Some may call it a coincidence but I believe in fate and so do Ruby and Brent. Seeing each other again brings the feelings of love that they had for each other and they both realize how much they missed each other. How happy they both were and most importantly makes them realize how much they never want to let go again. But this time around there is another obstacle in there way and that is distance. They live in two different states and giving up their dreams to be with each other isn't fair to either one of them. So how do they make it work?
I love Brent and Ruby so much. They are such the perfect couple. When we first met them their love was that adorable high school pitter patter love. You know the one where you see the person and your hearts starts to beat faster, the butterflies in your stomach kind of live. The one we all want to experience in our life. Brent and Ruby had that. But unfortunately that love fell apart when things started to take a turn in the wrong direction leaving them both lost, devastated and broken hearted. But even now with all that has happened between them, with five years apart, their love for each other is still deeper than any love they have ever felt. You feel how strong and how deep they love each other. The need and the want they they feel for each other. It is a love that is so intense and so real. They both messed up once and now they have a second chance at that once in a lifetime love. And I really believe that what they have together is just that. No one has ever compared to the love that they have. Over the years, even if not together their hearts always belonged to each other.
I cannot stress how much I love this book and how much you feel with this book. Ruby and Brent had their ups and downs and one of them being distance. But it was their love, their need and their want that gives them reason to fight for each other. That no matter what was between them they would make it work. (Sigh). I just loved these two and was sad to see their story end. I felt like we went through so much with this couple. We were there for the firsts between them, the heartache and pain that they both endured and now their second chance. I wanted nothing more than to see them get their HEA. They deserved it.
Such a beautiful ending to an amazing series.
And as a side note I absolutely loved Cody and Savannah. Cody has matured so much since we first met him and seeing how much he love and wanted to protect Ruby just made me love him.
