Beckett Taylor’s quest to be a better man has brought Eve Hartt back into his life, but sometimes it feels like they’re bound together with barbed wire. Though he longs to love her without causing pain, the wreckage of their past continues to crash down around them.

Yet with the help of this brothers—and for his brothers—Beckett won’t stop trying. He’s determined to make them all a family, to make a life they want to live, and to make Poughkeepsie a place that’s safe to live it.

He can feel their futures balanced precariously on his shoulders: Blake and Livia and their children, Cole and Kyle and the new baby they’ve just brought home, and Eve…always Eve. He wants their dreams to be real. But murderers don’t just get Happily Ever After handed to them. They have to wrench it away from Satan himself.

Good thing Beckett is prepared to do just that. After all, saving Poughkeepsie is the only way his story ends.

Prepare your heart and your head for a wild ride in this final installment of the Poughkeepsie Brotherhood series. Debra Anastasia does not disappoint as she weaves the last chapter of a story that blends true love, turbulent emotions, and life’s harsh realities into an uplifting tale that calls to the good in each of us.

4.5 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen

One of my all-time favorite books is Poughkeepsie.  There is something about these 3 men that draw me to them and I simply cannot get enough of their story.  Becket, Blake, and Cole were boys of the foster system,  each having their own demons to overcome.  Blake has always been the one my heart swells for the most.  Blake was homeless, but now he is making another trip to Disney World with his wife, Livia, and their 2 children.  Whatever assumptions I previously had that Blake had a dissociative disorder when I first met him in Poughkeepsie is long gone.  From the very beginning of this book, I became emotional reading about Blake and how happy he is.  Every single time I get a glimpse into his life and think back to what he has overcome, it brings tears to my eyes.  Every.Single.Time.

It was a simple morning – the kind of simple morning Blake could hardly have dreamed of years before, when he spent his days at the train station and his nights in his handmade shelters in the woods, avoiding the sun at all costs.  How far he’d come.

The majority of the book focuses on Beckett and Eve.  Beckett is still a bad-ass letting nothing or nobody stand in his way, but yet he has a heart of gold when it comes to his 2 “brothers.”  Beckett had been absent from Poughkeepsie for 6 years and now upon his return he wants to make it a safe place for his brothers and their families to reside.  Being close to Beckett means that you are likely to be used, tortured or killed in order to get to Beckett.   Beckett is ready to change his game plan as he wants his brothers to not have to look over their shoulders in the future.  Instead of being the instigator of drugs, weapons and pimps, he is changing his course and cleaning up the town.  He is turning his former douchebags into construction workers and buying up properties to use for low-income housing.   His heart means well, but the way he goes about doing things probably still needs a little polishing.  He is trying his hardest to do things the legal way.

Eve and Beckett are still going strong.  On the days that the entire group gathers, it is difficult for her to see the joy everybody receives from their children knowing that she will never be able to experience holding her own biological child.  Eve’s chance at having children was taken away when she was 19 years old.   For being a “killer” she has the mothering instinct and Beckett would do anything to make certain that someday she will rock her own child.  Beckett stumbles upon a secret that may help Eve achieve her dream.

He waited as he handed her hope.  After all the death he’d forced upon her, now he could offer her life.
“Wow,” was all she had to say.

Eve and Beckett continue to take on the source of corruption in their plan to turn Poughkeepsie into a safe place and their plans are met with death and destruction.  People close to them will not survive the onslaught of retaliation.  There is a war raging in their town, and Beckett is not going to let it go down without a fight.

“Our goal is this and this only:  Saving Poughkeepsie.”

If you thought Beckett was the king of verbal slaying, I would say that Ryan Morales can give him a run for his money.  Of course, Ryan’s heart is still hurting from the dismissal Eve has given him and he  may be slightly bitter towards Beckett.  The name calling between Beckett and Ryan is quite vivid and imaginative.

Ms. Anastasia writes with detail and brings the reader into her world.  There is one scene in particular with Blake and Livia that I can’t stop thinking about.  Ms. Anastasia brought normal everyday sounds and sights into a beautiful love scene.  I will never look at dust particles floating through the air again in the same way.

This was a perfect way to say goodbye to these dear brothers that I have loved for years.

Cole, Blake, and Beckett wrapped their arms in a handshake and then together cut the ribbon on a whole new chapter ahead.

 EXCERPT

“I’m not worried about tomorrow. I’m worried about right now, with you, under this Christmas tree.” Blake supported her neck as he laid her on the floor.
Livia turned her head. “You’d better convince me. So far you’ve talked about the dog going to the bathroom, trash, and dirtiness.”
Blake kissed her jaw and turned her head gently, kissing her mouth as she bit her lips together.
“Can’t I just convince you with my manly ways?” He wiggled his eyebrows.
He could, of course, do just that—but she shook her head. She loved the playful sparkle in his green eyes. His five o’clock shadow just made him more handsome, framing his kissable lips with scruff.
“Okay.” He put his fingers at the bottom of her shirt, lifting it gently so he could circle her belly button with his index finger. “You’re the sexiest, most beautiful woman on this planet. So sexy, in fact, that I had to have you. I had to make you bear my children because my universe and yours had to be combined. Everything I’ve ever been needed to be buried inside of you, so deep, so full of love that we created life. Twice.”
He lifted her shirt and kissed the tops of her breasts, whispering his devotion into her skin. “And it’s never enough. Unless I can hear you coming, I can’t think of anything else. All day every day. For years now. You’re that powerful, Livia. This. Us. It’s so intense that years haven’t cured me. I can’t stop wanting to make love to you.”
“Wow.” Livia smiled and pulled his face back to hers, kissing him and effectively stopping his beautiful words.
