Review by Trinette Dungee

Dane Hawthorne, Avril Carrigan, and Andre Collings have been best friends since their freshman year of college are now partners in Dane’s company. That’s it, just best friends and business partners….until they became more…Enter the Wicked Horse.

Dane is no stranger to The Wicked Horse; he is the sexual adventurer of his friends. To help get Andrew out of his dating and sexual dry spell he invites Andrew to tag alone; Being a little skeptical, Andrew declines. Surprisingly, it’s Avril who takes him up on his offer. Fresh off of breakup from a long term relationship Avril decides to spread her wings a bit and she manages to finally talk Andrew into joining her. While Dane is more than comfortable at the Wicked Horse; Andrew and Avril are surprised at how easy it is for them to join in the “activities” but just not with each. Soon the three best friends agree upon and embark on a sexual journey they never thought they would.

So I’ve read all of the Wicked Horse books and while this might not be my favorite….it’s most definitely taken the top spot for most interesting.

The decision for these three to add this new dynamic to this friendship was approached very intellectually, emotions were completely left out. What happens in The Wicked Horse stays in the Wicked Horse; and when things flow out of The Wicked Horse and into the bedroom….what happens in the bedroom, stays in the bedroom (this is Vegas after all). The three decide they will be exclusive (meaning Avril has sex with only Andrew and Dane, and Dane and Andrew will only have sex with her…no m/m in the scenario). This arrangement will not affect their working relationship…business doesn’t flow over into sex and sex doesn’t flow over into business. Avril has different connections to Dane and Andrew and soon, one connection seems to take over, a little bit of jealously comes out and the friendship between two people is put to the test. That’s all I’m going to say because you need to read to find out for yourself how all of this plays out.
One of the things I really liked about this book, the characters ages. It’s so refreshing to see older and more established characters; characters that aren’t in their twenties or early thirties. These guys are kind of pushing forty, their careers are established and they’ve sort of kind of “paid their dues”, which is probably why it was so easy for them to set the parameters around the relationship. The other thing that’s slightly different from the other books in this series; while The Wicked Horse was where things started, very little took place there. The storyline didn’t actually revolve around The Wicked Horse, as a matter of fact; this storyline is simultaneously taking place with Walsh and Jorie’s story…but they don’t connect in anyway.

The best thing about this book, it threw a few curve balls at you. Most of the time you can anticipate where the storyline was going to go, that’s not really the case here; there were a few times when I thought “hmmm, that’s not what I thought was going to happen…now I’m curious as to where this is going to lead. There were a few times some scenes lagged and the use of “best friends” was a bit excessive but yet again Sawyer Bennett gave me a good read.
