Life meets death. The end meets the beginning.
Eighteen-year-old Isis Blake hasn’t fallen in love in three years, forty-three weeks, and two days. Or so she thinks.
The boy she maybe-sort-of-definitely loved has dropped off the face of the planet after his girlfriend's death, leaving a Jack-shaped hole. Determined to be happy, Isis fills it in with lies and puts on a brave smile for her new life at Ohio State University.
But how long can that smile last with all of her friends gone?
How long can it last with the guilt of Sophia's death crushing her?
And how long can it really last when Will Cavanaugh attends the same school, taunting her?
Isis is good at pretending everything is okay. But not that good. The cracks begin to show.
Isis Blake is good at putting herself back together.
But Jack Hunter is better.

**This is the third and final book in the LOVELY VICIOUS series.
Jack is nowhere to be found after the tragic event that
claimed the life of his friend. He has
cut off any form of communication and Isis is left wondering what happened to
him. Isis is busy getting ready to go
off to college but in the back of her mind she is always curious (and a little
angry) about what Jack is doing. When
she least expects it, she comes face to face with Jack and what she sees before
her makes her question even more what happened to Jack…
He wasn’t putting
on the lifeless, emotionless act anymore.
He was just lifeless. He was
empty.
But the shock of his presence quickly turns from relief
to one of anger. She is not going to let
Jack off the hook easily. The fact that
Jack and Isis are together in the same place is just a mere coincidence. He is there for a job, and only for a
job. He makes it perfectly clear that
there is no future for him and Isis.
The hurt in her
brown eyes haunted me as I came in the nameless girl…
You’ve got to be kidding me…he did that?? Yep…That part made my stomach sick, but I
will be honest in saying that I thoroughly enjoy this type of angst. Jack’s work is giving him a good excuse to
push Isis away even further. He has
nothing left of himself to give after losing a huge piece of his heart to
Sophia, and he wants Isis to move on and find somebody else.
“I apologize…for
leading you into thinking we were something more than friends.”
Besides Jack surprising Isis with his presence, another
significant person from her past is now finding a way to continually torture
Isis with his mere presence…Nameless
a.ka. Will Cavanaugh. In true Isis
fashion, she can turn one sentence into a soap opera…
What! The! F*ck! Is
Nameless! Doing! Here!
Isis isn’t handling the stress of these two men in her
life very well. The hurt that Jack
caused her emotionally has turned her into somebody she doesn’t want to be and
that includes making out with strangers at parties. She
goes down a dark road because of the hurt she is feeling from Jack’s dismissal. Jack and Isis become strangers, which is sad
because they were the one calming force in each other’s lives. Isis is still Isis…garrulous and annoying at
times, but even the expert she is at hiding behind her quirkiness can’t
disguise the pain that she is feeling.
As far as that
night…the night we have been waiting to know what happened…the night that
changed the course of 4 friends...that night is unveiled in its entirety. I almost think it was a little unbelievable
and the basis for the events just don’t add up in my head. Not only do I have questions regarding the
premise of that evening, but I also find Jack’s sudden occupation a little far
fetched as well. For those parts of the
story that I had problems relating to, I give it 3.5 stars; but the angst that
I felt between Jack and Isis surpasses those questionable moments, and brings
it up to a 4.
