When life thrust a path in your direction, what fate will you choose?
4 Star Review by Lisa Kane
The Choice starts off right where The Promise ends. Chase was in a horrible car crash and Sophie, her sister Ana and Drake, Chase's cousin and Ana's boyfriend are waiting to hear his condition. Sophie is determined to get to Chase and even after being told only time will tell when he will wake up, she will not leave his side. This would be a hard situation for anyone, but it is especially hard for her since it has not even been a year since she lost Jack, her first love. He was killed in Afghanistan. Over and over she relives the moment she was told he was killed and she is reliving his loss along with worrying about Chase.
Eventually Chase wakes up and the two are closer than ever. Chase neglected to let Sophie know who was in the truck with him when he crashed. As innocent as it may have been, the reader knows eventually the truth is going to come out and how will Sophie handle it?
Chase and Sophie decide to move in together, it would be as man and wife if Chase had anything to say about it, but every time he asks her to marry him, she says she can't do that yet. He tries not to be hurt, but how long can he keep asking without hearing the answer he longs to hear?
"Do you have any idea how that feels, Sophie?"he ignores me. "Do you understand what it's like to know that you love someone with everything you have, with every single piece of your f#cking soul and still know it's not enough?" His eyes finally meet and are filled with tears. "No, Sophie, because I would never make you feel that way, Never!"
Meanwhile Ana and Drake are working out their differences. Ana is hot headed and jealous of Drake's continued friendship with **sarah, his old girlfriend. The fact that he admits he loved her once, and has kept in touch with her, isn't doing their relationship any good. When Ana meets her while out with Drake, she knows that her instincts were right and Sarah wants Drake back. Drake thinks Ana is being unreasonable. Who's right in this situation?
"You're a beautiful, strong, intelligent woman and there's no one I love more than you, Analise," I start. "Stop worrying about things that don't matter."
I loved The Choice just as much as I enjoyed The Promise. There are heartbreaking moments, especially when Sophie lets her mind linger back to Jack and the life she thought they would have together. But she does love Chase, and is willing to put her life on the line for him (as the reader will find out in this book). Second chances at true love are rare, and Sophie learns to cherish the oh so swoon worthy Chase. This guy is a keeper.
I will warn you, the last chapter is a killer! Talk about the mother of all cliff hangers. I'm hoping Ms. Benson is a fast writer! When I read the last paragraph, I couldn't swipe the pages of my E-reader fast enough, only to realize there were no more pages.
"I've always been yours, Lover. The second my eyes found yours, I knew," she whispers, pressing her hand to my heart. "The heart knows when it finds the other half to its soul, Chase. Don't think for a second that I've never been yours completely."
I grew up in Texas and moved to Florida when I met the love of my life 13 years ago. I wrote my first poem when I was five and it was about my love affair with pickles. I still love pickles but I like to think my writing has grown since then. I absolutely adore anything to do with books whether it’s writing them or devouring them in one sitting. I live on music, love, and sweet tea. I am known for my silly but blunt personality. I’ve been lucky enough to find the love of my life, marry him and now we’re working on our happily ever after. He inspires me in everything I do, but especially in telling love stories. I’m an ordinary girl living an extraordinary love and I’m so happy I get to share it with the world through my writing.
