"Romance masterpiece" - Kylie Scott, New York Times bestselling author

From USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling author L.J. Shen comes a new, contemporary romance with heart-wrenching twists and laugh-out-loud moments.

In The Unlikely Event is available now!

Sometimes you meet people who are out of this world, so you make them a part of yours.
A one-night stand born from vengeance in a foreign land.
An explosive chemistry neither of us could deny.
We signed a contract on the back of a Boar’s Head Pub napkin that said if we ever met again, we would drop everything and be together.
Eight years and thousands of miles later, he’s here.
In New York.
And he’s America’s music obsession.
The intangible Irish poet who brings record executives to their knees.
The blizzard in my perfect, unshaken snow globe.
Last time we spoke, he was a beggar with no intention of becoming a king.
But a king he became, and now I’m his servant.
I’m not the same broken princess Malachy Doherty put back together with his callused hands.
I have a career I love.
A boyfriend I adore.
An apartment, a roommate, a life.
I changed. He changed, too.
But Mal kept the napkin.
Question is, will I keep my word?

Review by Lisa Kane

Aurora “Rory” Belle Jenkins works as a photographer for the Blue Hill Records record label. She’s in a
relationship with Callum, her boyfriend. They are like night and day. She’s all nose ring and punk rock and he’s a successful stockbroker. He’s solid and dependable and his conservative appearance seems to make hers appear more outlandish.

Rory thinks she sees someone in the office who looks like Malacy Doherty, the man she spent a brief time with who has haunted her for the last eight years.  Rory’s past is complicated and messy. Her father who passed away was absent for most of her life. He lived in Ireland. Although he wasn’t there in person, he sent money and gifts over the years. Her mother never spoke well of him. She raised Rory by herself and is a bit of a train wreck herself.

Why would Malacy be meeting with her boss? He despises shallow people and big time record labels. This can’t be him. But oh, it is and things are really about to get crazy.

That’s all the background info that you need. Let me tell you, Malacy and Rory will break each other apart. There are so many secrets and lies in this story. And it’s not just told from their POV’s.  This story has POV’s from the living and the dead. I’m talking candy bars and barn animals and napkins. Right? Sheer craziness. And yet, the best writing ever.

This book will push your comfort zone. At times, I didn’t want to keep reading. I don’t like that hurt, burning feeling. I stepped away. Watched TV.  Caught my breath, but you know I came back. Had to pick up where I left off. Had to know if any of my theories were going to turn out to be correct.

God, I loved this book. This shouldn’t work. It’s too deep and too dramatic and there is so much craziness that it should just turn into a big muddy landslide into that stack of oblivious books that end up in the back of a closet. Unworthy of being displayed. But no, this one is going to stay in your head, where you will pick it apart and see where all the crumbs were that you should have followed.

It just works.

Excerpt

When I finally come face to face with the street artist standing on the side of the pavement, his guitar case open and full of rolled-up notes and change, I understand why his grandfather told me I’d recognize him with the self-assurance of an avid believer.
I’ve never seen someone like him before.
He is beautiful, true, but that’s not what stands out to me. He is radiant.
It’s like his presence has a presence. He sucks the air out of everything in his vicinity, making it impossible not to look at him. Malachy is tailor-made for a huge, colossal heartbreak. Everything about him—his tattered jeans, filthy boots, white shirt, and leather jacket that was broken in decades ago—screams trouble. He looks like a seventies heartthrob. An icon. A Terry Richardson muse. Bruce Springsteen pre-fame.
His voice is like honey and warm spices. It lulls me into a place in my mind I’ve never been before, even though it’s far from beautiful. It is gruff, throaty, and smoky. When someone bumps my shoulder to get closer to him, I snap out of my reverie and realize what I’m listening to.
“One” by U2.
The coincidence is strange. I try to tell myself it’s nothing. This is Ireland. U2 is a national treasure.
His eyes are squeezed shut as he sings. It’s like no one exists other than him and his guitar. Something warm rushes through my skin, like a heat wave, and I shudder in delight.
Warmth.
I always thought there was something melancholy about street performers—the way people walk past them, ignoring their music, their art, their passion. But this guy, he’s the one doing the ignoring. The tables have turned. He’s got the crowd eating from the palm of his hand. Every woman here is under a thick, sweet spell. He’s got that Harry Styles quality that makes girls want to bed him and older women want to adopt him. The men are a cross between impatient, annoyed, and jealous. You can see it in the way they tap their feet, check their watches, nudge their wives and girlfriends to move it.
The song ends, and Malachy Doherty cracks his eyes open and stares directly at me, like he knew I’d be here. Like he watched me watching him through closed eyes. Disoriented—and for some reason wanting to do something, anything—I throw a bill into his guitar case and look away, realizing to my horror that I threw the fifty euros his grandpa gave me. Everyone around me murmurs and whistles. They think it was intentional. I can feel my face flaming red. I bet he thinks I want to sleep with him.
Do I? Probably. But should he know that? Hell no.

Review by Jen Skewes

Emma Scott has completely blown me away, and to be honest this is not the first time.  But this book has left me speechless, finding it hard to even put into words the emotions that I felt while reading it.  I have been a fan of Ms. Scott’s since the beginning.   She knows how to bring out every emotion, she explores topics that may be ones we have read before, but you have never read it in the way that she writes them, making them unique in their own way.  This story is a M/M romance, but it is so much more than that.  It’s a story about love, friendship, forgiveness and having the strength to fight, not only for yourself but for those you love.

Max was kicked out of his home when he was a teenager because his parents found out he was gay.  Over the last ten years he has been through hell and back.  A recovering addict who when he hit rock bottom was saved by a stranger who gave him a second chance at life.  It took hitting the bottom to be the man he is today.  He is now clean and put himself through nursing school.  He is kind, sweet and compassionate. He has moved back to his hometown hoping to reconcile with his parents.   While he loves helping people, his job as an ER nurse may be hitting a little too close to home for him, so he accepts a job as a private nurse for the President of a pharmaceutical company.  Never did he think that the stranger he saw at his NA meeting would end up being the son of his new boss.

Silas Marsh is sexy and rich and living a life that is a complete lie.  He is pretending to be someone that he is not all so he can become the CEO of his father’s company.  He needs to play the part that his father expects of him, no matter how much it may cost him emotionally.  When he meets his father’s new nurse he can’t help but be shocked to see who it is.  They may not seem to like each other in the beginning but I honestly think that has more to do with the feelings that seeing each other brings out in the both of them.  Max slowly figures out that Silas is not the man that most people know him to be.  He knows that something in his past has ruined him, closed him off to his family and anyone else in his life.  With time, Silas slowly begins to open up to Max, and they form a friendship, and eventually cross that line.  But if his father ever found out about how he spends his free time, it could ruin everything.   With so many obstacles in their way can they fight for their love and win?

I loved this book.  This book was so emotional, I cried, I laughed, I swooned and at times I became angry and frustrated.  At times this book wrecked me.  My heart broke for these two men who were both such amazing and caring people.  They both had huge hearts, even if Silas had a hard time showing it.   There is so much to this story and as I mentioned before, this is a M/M romance and yes their sexuality is not accepted by their parents, but this book goes so much deeper than that, In a way that I never expected.   And it was pure perfection!!!

This is the flawlessly written, emotional story of Silas and Max, two men that are both broken from their past.  They both have so much love to give.  It’s their story about how they fight for their love, for each other and for themselves.  Together they were perfect.  The chemistry was hot, the witty banter made me laugh and the sweet moments made me melt.  They truly loved each other and were there for each other when it mattered.  I loved Max and Silas but there is one character that I absolutely adored!!!  Eddie, who is Silas’ brother completely captured my heart in every way.  Emma Scott, if you re reading this review, please, please write a story for Eddie!!!

Release Blitz: The imPerfect Guy by Leddy Harper

The imPerfect Guy, an all-new
standalone opposites attract Romance by Leddy Harper is NOW LIVE!

I never set out to be famous. It sort of fell into my lap.

Just like Finn.
He was exactly what I needed in an assistant, and the exact
opposite of everything I looked for in a guy, which made hiring him an easy
decision.
It was perfect.

Then it wasn’t.
One by one, I started to fall for all of Finn’s
imperfections, leaving me to question...

Was I simply looking for all the wrong things in a man? Or
was Finn perfect because he was imperfect?

Review by Jen Skewes

It's a well known fact that I am a he fan of Leddy Harper.  I have read just about all of her books and there is not one that I did not like.  And the imPerfect Guy is no exception.  As always she did not disappoint.

Mady is a social media influencer who is beautiful, sweet and has her own flaws and imperfections which is what also made her so lovable.  She is looking for a new assistant.  When she meets Finn, who based on his resume she thought was a woman, she feels this instant connection but is also not so sure that he is the right person for the job.  With some convincing from Finn, she decides to take a chance on him.

Finn is cute, sweet and funny and I felt this instant connection between him and Mady.  But he too is flawed and has his own insecurities which is what I loved about him.  Normally it it the woman who has insecurities about their physical appearance, but here we see the roles being reversed.  Finn is still holding onto his past and because of this his insecurities and feeling of "not being good enough" still haunt him.  He sees Mady as this beautiful, sweet and kind woman who in his eyes is not someone that would ever go for him. But as time goes by, there is an attraction between the two of them that they cannot deny.  The connection is one that makes you feel like they have known each other for years, it never seemed forced.  They just clicked and while they both wanted more, there is also the little issues of Mady being his boss.  And if things do not work out she not only loses a friend and lover but also her assistant.  Will their relationship get in the way of everything else?

I loved the relationship that they had. They just connected so well. And what I loved the most was that neither one of them was perfect.  That is what made this story so real.  Both Mady and Finn had their flaws and they are ones that are so relatable on many levels. I loved them both but at times I will say that Finn's insecurities did frustrate me a little. For one I wanted to understand a little bit better, what the issues was with his ex.  But aside from that while I did love him I didn't agree with some of his decisions,  but it was the way Mady handled things that made me just love the both of them.  She had her issues, and she is one of those girls who is sweet and kind to a fault but she was strong when she needed to be.  And Finn learned from his mistakes and fought when he needed to fight.  They really were perfect for each other.

I loved everything about this book, including the friendships.  I loved the foursome of girl friends and the time that a they spent to gather.  And Finn's best friend and his wife was also a great addition to this story.  I cannot wait to see whose book is next!!

About Leddy Harper

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child.
She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she
decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never
stopped.

She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to
deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.

She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as
the only man in a house full of females.

The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of
showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do
and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to
overcome their fears.

Release Blitz: Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy Piper Rayne

You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of their will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1– You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2– Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3– Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4– Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 –You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6– You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

Review by Jen Skewes

I love the Bailey series.  It was this series that introduced me to this fantastic writing duo.  With each book I fall more in love with the entire Bailey clan and become a bigger fan of Piper Rayne. It’s the humor and with that I love, combined with the emotions that they make me feel.  Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy has the banter and funny moments that I love but this is Denver’s story, and we see that there is more to him that you think. We get to go a little deeper into the heart and soul of this playboy.

Denver, just like the rest of the Bailey men is hot and sexy but also a really good guy, despite his playboy ways.  Yes, he’s a no strings attached kind of guy but has never led women to believe otherwise.  He has no plans of falling in love or being in a relationship.  Until he is forced to work with the one woman that manages to get under his skin.

When Cleo’s father dies, she finds herself in the small Alaskan town, Lake Starlight, listening to the reading of his will only to find out that her father left his company to her and Denver Bailey, the guy who pushes her buttons and the last person in the world that she wants to work with.  Cleo grew up in Dallas and while she did visit her dad and she loved him; she didn’t have the best relationship with him.  Denver on the other hand was very close to him, he was his mentor and a father figure after he lost his dad.  They seem like an unlikely pair to tale of the business, but Chip had his reasons for leaving int to the both of them. They may not agree, or like each other for that matter but they can agree that selling the company or buying the other one out is out of the question.  They agree to make it work and revive the company they just inherited.  Wil this bring them closer together or drive them farther apart?

Denver is in a way the troublemaker of the family, the one who refuses to settle down and tends to use humor to avoid his feelings.  Losing chip hit him hard.  He lost his parents at a young age and now he lost his mentor.  What I loved about Denver’s story is that we get to see another side to him,  softer side it you will.  He is caring and pays attention and while he wasn’t Cleo’s biggest fan, that soft side had a tendency to come out around her.  She was going through her own issues.  Losing a father that she wasn’t even sure how he felt about her.  She had no idea where she fit in, both in Lake Starlight, her father’s business and in Denver’s life.  They both had a sarcastic way about them, and Cleo was the perfect match for Denver.  She knew how to handle him and give it right back.  The banter between the two of them made me smile but it was the moments where they opened up to each other, where Denver really showed that he cared, that got me.  Those moments were everything.

Piper Rayne has done it again.  I love how the other family members are weaved into each other’s story, because aside from the romance side to this series it is also about love, family and friendship.  I love how they welcome Cleo with open arms.  While reading I always feel like I am submerged in their world and a part of the Bailey family.  I cannot wait for the next one.
