Synopsis:

I joined the team at Jameson Force Security three months ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Leaving behind the Marine Corps together, my dog Omega and I made the cross-country trek to Pittsburgh for an exciting new career. Now I get to spend my days doing dangerous missions with my team and Omega gets to spend his days relaxing, unless there are explosives to be sniffed, and then he’s all paws on deck. When Omega—who I affectionately refer to as Bubba—snacks on something he most definitely shouldn’t have, an emergency trip to the vet introduces me to Abigail Blackburn. She’s a little quirky, a lot smart, and completely captivating. She also has a penchant for trouble and when Abby makes it her own personal mission to expose the puppy mill industry, she finds herself mixed up with unsavory characters who aren’t happy with her efforts to cut into their profits This seedy underbelly is a dangerous place, particularly for a well-intentioned, yet somewhat naïve, small-town vet. What began as peaceful protests outside of local pet stores has escalated into something that threatens Abby’s safety, and I refuse to sit by and watch her get hurt. Somehow this raven-haired beauty has gotten under my skin, and I don’t hesitate to call in my teammates at Jameson to help keep her safe. Now I find myself trying to balance my need to protect Abby while helping her successfully complete her mission, but also redirecting her focus long enough to show her that I’ve completely fallen for her. One thing is certain—this is going to be my toughest assignment yet.

Trinette Dungee's 4 Star Review!

When retired Marine Kellen McKord took the Jameson Security, he was prepared to move his girlfriend and his dog, Bubba, with him. Finding his girlfriend in their bed with the lawn guy made it one less person that needed to be moved. So, he packed up his stuff and Bubba and headed for Pittsburgh, PA for a new beginning which put him back home on the East Coast and only a few hours away from his parents and where he grew up. When Omega, Kellen’s eight-year-old Retired Military Working Dog (MWD), whom he has nicknamed “Bubba”, gets sick,

the last thing he expected when he took him to the vet was to find himself attracted to the sexy vet who helped treat Bubba. He definitely didn’t expect to find out she was neck deep in trying to single handedly stop an illegal breading ring which has put her in major danger; but at first glance at the beautiful Vet and he was a goner.

Veterinarian Abby Blackburn is passionate about her animals, especially about freeing the dogs held hostage by the slimy breeder who mistreats the dogs he keeps in cages. The last thing Abby expected was to find herself attracted to the gorgeous owner of Bubba, have him, stand up for her when she’s confronted by the man she stole from, volunteer to house one of the dogs she managed to rescue from the puppy mill, and have him again jump in and save her when she finds herself in a dangerous situation.

The newest member of Jameson is Kellen McKord, and he’s kind of adorable. Because I don’t read summaries of Sawyer’s series I had no idea what the storyline for Omega would be and I have to admit, when I first started this book and realized Omega was actually Bubba, I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy this storyline as much as the others. I mean, how much can you do with a storyline where the main storyline kind of revolves around a dog? I know what you are thinking, “what about ‘Atticus?” Well, I have to confess, it’s the only Sawyer book I haven’t read…BUT, I do have it in my library.

It didn’t take me long to realize that this storyline was going way beyond Bubba. While he was the catalyst for Kellen and Abby meeting, he wasn’t the main focus. This story was all about Kellen and Abby. I enjoyed everything about this story. There was an instant connection to the characters, and the chemistry between Abby and Kellen was instantaneous and it definitely leaped off the pages.

The pace of the story was perfect, and the backgrounds for each character answered any questions I might have had, especially about Abby. In this storyline, Abby is the mystery. We know she’s running from something and or someone. We learn that Abby is from a very affluent family and has a twin sister, Kate. As well as three older brothers: Ethan, Wade, and Trey. All of whom are involved in the family business. A business in which Abby wants no part of. We learn a little bit about these family members, and after the interactions she has with her siblings, especially Ethan, I can’t help but to wonder if there will be a spinoff that follow the Blackburn Siblings. If not, I’m just kind of throwing the idea out there.

Code Name: Omega is a straight to the point quick read, with a Happily Ever After, and very little angst.

One last note. I’m also an audio book fan, and if you are too, you might want to check out the audio book when it’s released because it’s narrated by non-other than infamous Joe Arden! When I read this book, the voice in my head was Joe’s. So, imagine my surprise when I found out that Joe would be narrating. If you follow Joe like I do, then you know with his love of all things canine, Sawyer could have picked a better person to narrate. I don’t typically listen to books after reading them, but this is definitely one I will be listening to.
