Review and Giveaway: Unspoken by Jen Frederick

Whore. Slut. Typhoid Mary.

I've been called all these at Central College. One drunken night, one act of irresponsible behavior, and my reputation was ruined. Guys labeled me as easy and girls shied away. To cope, I stayed away from Central social life and away from Central men, so why is it that my new biology lab partner is so irresistible to me?

He's everything I shouldn't want. A former Marine involved in illegal fighting with a quick trigger temper and an easy smile for all the women. His fists aren't the danger to me, though, it's his charm. He's sliding his way into my heart and I'm afraid that he's going to be the one to break me.

Impulsive. Unthinking. Hot tempered.

I allow instinct to rule my behavior. If it feels good, do it, has been my motto because if I spend too much time thinking, I'll begin to remember exactly where I came from. At Central College, I've got fighting and I've got women and I thought I was satisfied until I met her.

She's everything I didn't realize I wanted and the more time I spend with her, the more I want her. But she's been hurt too much in the past and I don't want to be the one to break her. I know I should walk away, but I just can't.

4 Star Review by Nicole Lorenzo

AnnMarie West made one drunken mistake freshman year and now she is the pariah of Central College. Trying to avoid the rumors spread about her and the hateful stares being shot her way AnnMarie stays away from campus and its social life. She stays away from all guys who attend Central and would never dream of dating any of them. That changes the day Bo Randolph becomes her lab partner. Bo has a way with women, he’s an ex-Marine, fights illegally and is sexy as all hell. AnnMarie knows she needs to stay far away from him, but the more time she spends with him the more she realizes that there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Bo, and what an eye full he is!

“I don’t think someone gets a crush on Bo Randolph and comes away unscathed.”

Bo Randolph has followed his buddy Noah from childhood, to the Marines and now to Central College. He uses women and underground fighting to handle his anger and impulse control and was perfectly content with his life, until he met AnnMarie West. Usually it just takes an easy smile and some flirting to have a woman exactly where Bo wants them, but this girl is different. Bo finds himself for the first time having genuine interest in a girl outside of the bedroom and the more time he spends with her, the more he wants her. The problem is AnnMarie doesn’t trust easily and keeps pushing him away. After asking around Bo learns of the rumors circulating about AnnMarie and is determined to help her gain her self-confidence back and show her that he truly cares for her.

“I didn’t want to save everyone. I just wanted to save AnnMarie. I wanted to save myself. Somehow it seemed the same thing at the moment…….”

The chemistry between Bo and AnnMarie is intense. Finally Bo is able to break through some of her walls and convince her to give him a chance.

“I’m scared, too, but neither of us are going to get what we want if we don’t take a chance.”

In Unspoken both Bo and AnnMarie have to deal with unresolved issues from their pasts. AnnMarie has to stop hiding and hoping that the rumors about her will just be forgotten and dissappear. AnnMarie was a very strong girl considering the public slandering she endured. Although she hid and didn’t confront her tormentors when it began she held her ground and refused to transfer to another school.  Bo helps her stand up for herself and learn to let her guard down as well as to trust and love. Bo needs to confront his reason for lack of control and his anger issues. Bo is a real charmer, he’s witty and sexy and AnnMarie didn’t stand a chance in resisting him any longer than she did. They lean on each other, helping one another overcome their obstacles which leads to a sweet love story that builds slowly but is so worth it when it gets there.

I truly enjoyed Unspoken! It was sweet, sexy and at times very funny. I really liked the secondary characters in this book and was happy to see more of Noah and Grace from the first novel. I am curious to see who the next book will feature. Unexpected is due out in January and I can’t wait to read it!
