I love this author's works. I've ready every title she's released and some stand out from the bunch. This one belongs with that category.
Scarlett Elwood is about to start her first day at the law firm of Elwood Hoyt. That's right-her father is one of the owners. People have always believed that she's gotten where she is because of her father, and although that didn't hurt-she really worked her butt off in law school and is a damn good attorney.
Practically her whole family has some connection to the firm. On her first day her brother offers some advice-stay clear of Hudson Rhodes. He's a hot shot partner, whose life revolves around his career. On that same first day, Anders Elwood gives Hudson Rhodes an order-to put Scarlett on his team and to go easy on her. Talk about giving Hudson a reason to paint a target on Scarlett's back!
Scarlett is originally assigned to a different team to work under-that is until Hudson has her assigned to his team. He thinks she's beautiful, but owes her position to nepotism. The two share some sparks, a lot of chemistry and a few misconceptions about each other.
Scarlett is an over achiever and works harder than any of the other first year team lawyers. They all share a distain for her and like any good school yard bullies, they shun her, and won't let her join in any reindeer games. It might sting, but Scarlett isn't going to let their whispers and harsh words affect her.
Besides her job, she has a rather lack luster relationship with her boyfriend Jasper. Talk about a total bore. I kept thinking Drop This Loser and get a little something something going with the gorgeous Hudson.
There's lots of legal action and a little action happening between Scarlett and Hudson too. He is more consumed than Scarlett with his career-he is determined to make Senior Partner. Nothing can interfere with that plan.
Sometimes life doesn't go according to our plans. Both Hudson and Scarlett find themselves struggling to hide their feelings. But rules and the law can't stop love. It's only fitting that the division of the firm where Scarlett and Hudson work is mergers and acquisitions. Now doesn't that just figure?
