If you've read the first book in The Law of Opposites Attract series, we witnessed the steamy dance between Lala and Holden at Colby and Billie's wedding. We know there is something there, but Holden is a musician who enjoys playing on the stage and off and Lala is a scientist engaged to a colleague. Very different personalities, but united in their shared grief at the death of Lala's brother, Ryan.
Holden has always been attracted to Lala but he was warned years ago by Ryan that Lala is off limits. As tempted as he's been, he's never given in to his feelings. But now Lala needs a place to stay and Holden offers her the empty apartment next to his. Maybe not the best idea for trying not to give in to his impulses. Lala isn't immune by any means, but thinks Warren her fiance, is a safe choice. Lala has her life mapped out in front of her, she's always followed the sensible path and thinks Holden is not the type to settle down.
But when circumstances keep putting these two together, it's awfully difficult to ignore what they both are feeling. The question is, will those feelings prove to be nothing more than a mistake or is it the real thing?
The Rules of Dating My Best Friend's Sister had just the right balance of humor and seriousness. There are so many poignant memories these characters have shared with Ryan, Lala's brother. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. There just may be a little divine intervention going on in this story. A love as strong as these characters shared with Ryan remains long after he is physically no longer with them.
