Lisa Kane's 4 Star Review
Primrose has been staying at the mansion owned by her aunt and her aunt't billionaire husband. They have both tragically died due to carbon monoxide poisoning while in their hotel on vacation. The only surviving relative, Dorian Vanderbilt is due to arrive at any moment. Primrose has been lucky enough to be able to afford her tuition for art school and to live at the mansion for free. Waiting tables doesn't pay enough to afford rent and school.
Dorian surprises her by arriving in the middle of the night. He's as surprised to see her as she is to see him. They get off to a rocky start. But there is a chemistry there, even if neither one wants to admit it. Dorian agrees to let Primrose stay if she continues to keep an eye on the household. He has his hands full with taking over the family business after his father's death.
Slowly they both start to find themselves falling for each other. Both have huge walls in place due to prior disappointments but maybe they can find a happily ever after? When it all seems to be going well, bam....
While I really loved the first half of the book, I have to admit, I was disappointed by the second half. It seemed a little far fetched and dragged a bit. I love suspense and angst but something was missing for me. I could feel the hurt they both caused each other and I love the slow burn I got from that, but I think the story could have wrapped up a bit sooner.
Having stated all that, I would still recommend this story as Penelope Ward is a talented author who knows how to make one's stomach plummet with her roller coaster stories.
