My mother's name is Taylah, and once, a very long time ago, she was my best friend - she was everything I wanted to be.

Until the night she disappeared.

Ten years on and my life, my families lives and the world around us has never been the same again.
How can it be when you are left not knowing?

No leads. No connections. Nothing. Just pure emptiness.

My dancing is the only way I can separate myself from the pain that lies in my home, in my father's eyes and in my brother's spirit. They need me and I'll fight with everything I am to be there for them, but who will be there for me?

Then I meet Nate.

Champion Motocross racer and everything my father doesn't want for me. He's forbidden, he's beautiful, and he's carrying a bundle of his own secrets.

When I step into his world, there is no turning back.

He will consume me.

He will teach me how to breathe again.

He will put a tiny piece of my broken heart, back together.

Review by Lisa Kane
Avery and her brother Liam adore their cupcake making, hugs and kisses mom, Taylah. On a typical morning, she kisses them and sends them off to school. When Avery asks where her dad is, her mom tells her that he had to leave early for work. Avery’s dad works all the time, it consumes his life and he misses most of the activities that his kids participate in.

But that day doesn’t stay typical as she is called out of class and her dad tells her and her brother that he can’t find their mom. He is going to be searching for her and he needs them home; he can’t worry about where they will be. Days go by and then weeks and months and Taylah never returns.

Ten years later, Avery is with her dad’s protégé, Jacob and a marriage between the two of them is expected. Her dad is a very wealthy man, and supports her financially; paying for her car, her dance lessons, her apartment. Her love of dance is what motivates her and she is going to be a dance instructor. Her brother Liam is a mess, a drug addict and no amount of help from her or his friend Kelly makes a difference.

At a party at his apartment Avie meets Nate Alexander, a motorcross racer who is fairly well known. Although she is attracted to him, he reveals he’s married. They run in to each other and hang out a bit. He calls her “Dancer” and tells her about his wife Lena, who is a drunk. He adores his daughter Macy and worries about how his wife is drunk around her all the time –he fears something will happen when he is out racing. The two feel the pull between them but both try to resist it. The story is told in both POV’s so the reader can get inside both of their heads.

Avery tries to encourage Nate about his marriage and how he should keep working at it.

“How can I?” he breathes. “When you’re always on my fuckin’ mind? Do you know what you’re doing to me Dancer? You’re makin’ me feel again…and it’s been so long since I’ve felt…”

Avery is torn, she is falling for Nate, and is more and more discontented with Jacob. But if she thinks she can  break away easily, he disproves her of this thought.

We’re not going to have this conversation. You don’t get a say in this; you don’t get to choose how it goes. You’ll do as you’re told and accept it, because doing so will set up  an amazing life for you.”

As they move into a physical relationship, Avery can’t help but want more than moments of sneaking around, of hiding everything.

“Why don’t you just leave, if you’re unhappy?” “It’s complicated, it’s messy, it’s soul crushing and it is a hell of a lot of work. I don’t want to disrespect my wife, believe that, but walking away from her isn’t as easy as just going home and saying I’m leaving.”

I really felt for these two, Nate hasn’t loved his wife for a really long time but he knows if he leaves Lena will hold Macy from him. And then there is another complication with her…but Nate does something and I wanted to punch him in his nuts.

“Avery,” he whispers, stretching  a hand out. “Leave, Nate,” I gasp through sobs. “It’s not…she’s my fucking wife!”

“Listen to what?” I scream, unable to hold back. “ To you telling me it’s okay? It’s not okay. Now leave.”

Things really fall apart after that. The road to their happiness is littered with broken bodies and hearts and my stomach just kept getting bumped along. And then things with her mom resurface. There are tons of twists in this one, enough to keep your fingers flying through the pages. Very good read.
