When the cards are down, will Wes and Lola call or fold?

4.5 star review by Jen Skewes

I love this series and I loved Wes and Lola's story.  We first catch a glimpse of Wes in the first book and there was just something about the man that I loved.  I needed to know more about him.  So of course I could not wait to get my hands on Three of Diamonds.  And let me tell you that W. Ferraro did not disappoint.

Wes is just as hot and sexy as I knew he would be.  I love all the Hamden hotties but yes I am playing favorites here, and Wes happens to be mine.  Wes Thompson is a business man during the day but at night he plays the role of Adonis the God to may woman at the sex club, Olympus.  This part of Wes' life is one that he keeps to himself, not even his two best friends know.  But it seems that Wes has been less interested in the club lately.  He loves the lifestyle, and being at the club which has been a part of him for so long, but something is missing.  'Maybe it's seeing his best friend Seth recently finding  love again after losing his wife or Dylan, the former playboy has settling down and finding love.  Wes has always been content with his sexual lifestyle, but when he meets Lola Nash, that all changes.  He sees her at a bar one day and knows in that moment that he wants her.  But Lola does not make things easy for him and he cannot understand why she resists the chemistry between the two of them.  If he wants her he is going to have to work hard to get her.  But what Wes doesn't know is that Lola knows his secret, she knows where he spends his nights.

Lola is a very strong and independent woman who has been taking care of her brotherBoyd,  who has Down Syndrome.  She decides to get a 2nd job for extra money working at a club.  But she quickly realizes that this job is just not for her.  During her short time there, there was one thing that she did notice, or should I say one person.  She noticed Adonis, who is considered one of the "gods" at the club.  All though he had a mask on she could not forget those eyes and cannot deny how sexy he was.  But she tries to forget him, that is until he walks into the bar she works at and orders a drink.  She knows it is him because she knows those eyes any where.  Plus the fact that her body was completely betraying her, reacting to his presence in a way that she didn't want it to.  She knew Wes' secret and to her that meant that he was off limits.  But Wes wanted her and he was not giving up.  Even if he had to take it slow and make her see how much he wanted her.   How could she deny the chemistry that they had and how can she say no to a man that was so amazing with her brother?

Wes was patient with Lola in the beginning but at some point his patience started to wear thin.  He wanted her.  He knew how he affected her because she affected him in the same way.  Lola eventually gave into her sexual desires and took a chance on a sexual relationship with Wes. But at some point their sexual relationship turned into so much more.  Secrets were revealed, walls were broken down and emotions became involved.  Lola started to open up to Wes about her past and the meaning of her tattoo, expecting him to run in the other direction.  But her past didn't scare him away and neither did the fact that she takes care of her brother who has special needs. Lola and Wes started falling for each other hard.  I think in a way they pushed each others boundaries.  Wes pushed Lola out of her comfort zone sexually, but I think they also pushed each other emotionally.  Insecurities, trust and commitments play a big part in their relationship. But at some point it hits Lola that she is falling in love with a man who is considered a sex god, who frequents sex clubs and lives a different lifestyle than her.  She has to wonder if she will ever be enough for him?

I loved Lola and Wes' journey.  They had such amazing chemistry together.  I loved Lola as a heroine.  She had her reservations when it came to Wes but I understood them.  It wasn't just about her getting her heart broken.  She had Boyd to consider as well.  Wes is still that loving caring gentleman that we saw in the first two books but he also has a controlling, domineering and possessive side to him that is just too sexy for words.  I loved how he was with Lola's brother Boyd.  I loved that he never judged her after hearing about her past.   I just loved him in general, in case you haven't figured that out yet....lol

I am a huge fan of this series and W. Ferraro's writing.  Each book in this series has a different story to tell.  Each character is unique in their own way.  I love that the woman in this series are curvy, have imperfections and insecurities that all us woman can relate to.  And lets not forget about the men who will melt your heart and just keep getting hotter and hotter.  W. makes you fall in love with her characters.  She writes their story in a way that you feel connected with the characters, like you are a part of their "circle" and their family.  And I love that we continue to see the characters in each book.

Ms. Ferraro definitely stepped it up with this book in so many ways, with the sex club, Lola caring for her brother with down syndrome and then there is the meaning behind her tattoo, which I will not get into.  But she completely nailed it on all accounts.  And then there are the sex scenes.   Let me just say that Wendy knows how to write a sex scene.  Each book has at least one memorable sex scene in it and this one is no different.  After reading Three of Diamonds you will get the sudden urge to want to go horseback riding or find a condo with a floor to ceiling window overlooking the city.  Keep a fan handy while reading, seriously they are that HOT!

Wes and Lola's journey wasn't an easy one.  Insecurities and emotions got in the way at times.  They had hurdles to face and decisions to make.  What started out as a physical attraction between two people turned into a love that was so real.  But was it strong enough to overcome all the obstacles they faced?

Three of Diamonds is about love, passion, trust and finding happiness.  Another amazing job by Ms. Ferraro.  I always look forward to reading your books.  Cannot wait for CeCe's story.

Three Chicks had the pleasure of interviewing W. Ferraro and ask some questions that we have all wanted to know the answers to.  Enjoy!

When did you know you wanted to become a writer and who inspired you to become a writer?

I was always envious of people who could create stories.  I used books to get through a dark and difficult time in my life.  The stories within their covers were my escape and I escaped often.  One day, I was reading and I just couldn’t get into some of the stories, and I thought, I could do this.  I’ve had a story in my mind for a while and just started typing.  After I got the first few chapters down, I gave to a dear friend of mine.  I figured if anyone would tell me it was crap, it was her.  As I sat on eggshells, she came back with, “what happens next?” The rest is the Hamden Series.

I love all the men of Hamden but as you know my favorite Hamden Hottie is definitely Wes. We all want to know, if you had to pick one for yourself who would it be and why?

Oh that is a tough one!  All my Hotties have a special place in my heart for different reasons, but if I was to pick one, it would undoubtedly be Seth.  All my characters are fictional but do have attributes of many different people, Seth is a mixture of some of my faves
.
I loved that each book in this series deals with a different issue and each character is different in their own way. But with Three of Diamonds you stepped it up just a bit with the sex club and even with Lola taking care of her brother who had special needs. What made you decide to take it that route with Wes and was this story harder to write than the others?

I dug deep for Wes and Three of Diamonds.  I want my stories to be filled with many facets to appeal to different people in different ways, but above all, I want my stories and characters to be relatable.  Life isn’t perfect.  Life isn’t all gumdrops and rainbows.  Well, not for me anyways, so I want that to be presented with Hamden.  I’m not going for shock value of, OMG she did that, but rather just a story with flawed, not always perfect people in a real life atmosphere.  When Boyd was coming through, I just couldn’t help but fall in love with him, and the relationship he and Lola had, is something I would hope my children would have if anything like that would ever to happen.  Plus not to mention, I just needed another level to add to Wes’ swoonability.  As far as Olympus and Adonis, I wanted to show and tell the story of that side of Wes, but as we all know, that one part is not Wes on a whole, but what a fun side it is though, right?

You sure know how to write a hot and steamy sex scene. Seth and Mae on the rock, Dylan's car, horseback riding, sorry still can't get past that scene, lol. Can you explain the thought process behind the hot sex scenes, where the ideas come from?

I have an active imagination, but if you met my husband he walks a little taller now a days, ha ha.  When I’m writing one of those scenes, I try to show the different emotions of the characters, the emotional and private thoughts but also the physical.  It’s okay if you don’t like your sex life dirty like some of the Hamden Hotties do, but it doesn’t mean you don’t want to read about it. ;)

Do you feel it is easier to write the sex scenes or the emotional, sweet and tender scenes?

They both have their pros and cons, but if you ask my editor and beta’s, I seem to have an uncanny ability to be very thorough with my sex scenes.  So take that to mean what you want. (Insert eyebrow bob here)

Which sex scene was your favorite one to write?

Oh my, this is like picking a favorite child.  Very tough, but I guess I will have to go with Dylan and Natalie on the Cuda.  Something about the bad boy being caught off guard by the innocent schoolteacher showing her vixen side.  Add the male domineering area on a piece of tough, classic, pure testosterone in gloss and chrome form; I’m like a kid in a candy store.

Which female character do you think you can relate to the most?

Definitely Mae! On so many levels.  She was a lot of fun to write.  In a way, she was my way of telling the world, that as a member of the chub club myself, plus size woman are sexy and can get the guy too.

Have your husband and family read your books?

My husband has read all of them, and my family, for the most part, has been awesome and amazingly supported.  I’m a lucky girl.

Do you have any rituals while writing?

With two young kids, my writing ritual is write when I can. But generally when I’m writing, you will find either a cup of English Breakfast tea or a glass of Pinot Grigio next to me.

How did you come up with the titles for this series?

I was waiting for someone to ask this.  Unlike what most people think, my book(s) are not named after playing cards, well not directly anyways.  Three of Hearts was actually named first for my three hearts outside my body, my husband and two children.  But, also for the three of cups in tarot.  This card means multiple different things and the interpretation can be mixed, but to me it is a symbol of friendship, celebration, reaping rewards and overall happiness in one’s life.  That is what my writing journey means to me.  Now the number three also represents the three original Hamden Hotties.  Dylan was the perpetual bad boy, the “darker” one, so I called him a Spade, not to mention he said he had a certain talent in “spades.”  Wes was easily affiliated with a Diamond.  Beautiful and hard, mystical yet common, always desired and completely worthy of the hard work.  You just wanted that man to shine.

If you could pick anyone to play the role of Wes and Lola, who would they be?

I’ve made no secret of my fantasy cast of Jesse Spencer as Wes, so definitely him.  Lola has always been Ashley Graham to me, and always will.  To me, she is one of the most beautiful woman in the world and I would completely consider switching teams for her.

What can you tell us about your next project and what can we expect in the future?

There is more Hamden to come.  Next up is CeCe’s story.  You remember her, she was the sassy honorary sister of Mr. Cross.  Then, I just can’t let Jax, the super-hot head of security at Olympus go quietly.  After that, we shall see.

Meet Wes and Lola
