4 Star Review by Lisa Kane
This novel
picks up right where Playing with Fire ended. Madison’s crazy ex has kidnapped
her and is speeding away while Carter (Madison’s new boyfriend) lies hurt after
Chris shot him. Carter’s friend Jason saw Chris take Maddy and is hot on their
pursuit. Things take a turn for the worse and Chris crashes the car. Both are
taken to the hospital and Jason’s day only gets harder as he finds Carter hurt
and bleeding. Chris is arrested, and both Maddy and Carter are on the mend. But
there was another casualty in the accident…
Jason and
Nicole, Maddy’s friend, hooked up on New Year’s Eve. Jason left Nicole before
she woke up the next day as he has huge commitment issues. His sister died
years ago and as a result his mom walked out on him and his dad. He won’t risk
his heart again. These two are thrown in each other’s paths because of these
events and both can’t stay away from each other. Nicole tries to get Jason to
break down the barriers he constantly puts around his emotions. Each time she
makes up her mind that she won’t keep letting him hurt her, that is the time
Jason is determined not to let her go.
When it
seems as if these two will finally find some happiness in their relationship,
they each discover something out at the same time that is completely
unacceptable to Jason and once again he leaves. Meanwhile, Maddy is dreading
the court case against Chris, his father’s influence has managed to distort the
circumstances and it seems no matter how ridiculous it is, Chris always seems
to manage to avoid punishment.
I enjoyed
this book. There are some new stories from secondary character coming into
play. Shawn’s actions indicate he has a lot going on that he isn’t being honest
about and I’d like to find out what that is about. I hope in the next one,
Chris finally gets what is coming to him.
