Blog Tour: Keep Me Still by Caisey Quinn

BOOK SUMMARY:

Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that both bind them together and tear them apart.

Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she's built up around herself or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.

Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.

4.5 star review by Jen Skewes

This version of Keep Me Still includes the prequel novella Let You Leave as well as the sequel novella, Hold Us Close.  So I guess you can say I will be reviewing all three books.  I don't want to give away too much of the story and what happens but I can say that I absolutely loved this book.

Layla lost her parents when she was 13 in a very horrific way.  She was there the night that they were killed and as a result has been having seizures induced by PTSD.  Layla tried living a normal life but when she had a seizure in school one day she found it to be very difficult to pretend everything was ok.  Instead of actually helping here the kids at school made fun of her and nicknamed her Freaky Flaherty.  Not being able to deal with the ridicule she decided that it was best to be home schooled by her aunt.  It is now her senior year and Layla has decided that it is time to go back to school.  People didn't forget what happened, but Layla tried to just get through the school year, in hopes of just becoming invisible to everyone else around her.  Then she meets the new guy at school, Landen O'Brien, the only person at school who really sees who she is.

Landen is all kinds of cute, sweet, caring, and sexy all in one.  His father is in the military so he is used to moving around all the time.  He has never really been in a relationship before because he knows that once he gets attached he would just have to leave.  So he usually meets a girl, not getting too close to her so when he has to move again it won't hurt.  But when he meets Layla, everything changes.  Landen thinks Layla is the most beautiful girl that he has ever seen and cannot understand why she has no friends and no boyfriend.  Landen and Layla form this instant bond/friendship.  Layla feels a certain comfort when she is with him.  Landen and Layla become friends which ends up turning into more.  But when circumstances out of their control tear them apart Layla is left with a broken heart.

Fast forward a few months later and Layla is away at college on her own and Landen is no longer a part of her life.  Until she finds out that he is at the same college as her.  Layla is hurt by what happened between them and is a little hesitant to go running back to him and to be able to trust him again.  But the truth is that her feelings for Landen are still there and she wants to be with him just as much as he wants her.  But they both have secrets, ones that can destroy their relationship.  What happens when their secrets come out?  Will their love survive be able to survive it all?

There is so much to this story that I cannot discuss because I don't want to give too much away.  Landen and Layla love each other.  They are both broken in their own way.  Layla has suffered a tremendous loss when her parents died plus she is dealing with her own medical condition.  Landen grew up constantly on the move, with an abusive father and a mother who looked the other way.  I think in many ways they saved each other, helped each other to heal.  Their road to happiness certainly was not an easy one.  There were many obstacles that life through their way that they needed to face.  But their love for each other was enough to try and work through it together.

Keep Me Still is an amazing, beautiful and emotional journey.  Landon and Layla's story was an emotional one that is filled with real life issues that they both had to deal with.  Landon was such a wonderful hero.  He was so sweet and loving and caring.  When he witnessed one of Layla's seizures for the first time he didn't run.  Instead he sat there and comforted her.  He wanted to protect her from the world, from the people who had ridiculed and made fun of her.  He was the one person who kept her still, helped her through it all.  I also loved Layla.  She overcame so much pain and heartache in her life.  Landen was loving and caring but he had his own deep, dark issues that he had to deal with.  And Layla was right their by his side to help him heal, just as he was for her.  Together they were perfect, together they helped each other heal and together they kept each other still

I laughed with them i cried with them, and my heart broke for them at times.  But it was worth every minute and every emotion.  A fantastic job by Ms. Quinn.  This is my first book by this author, and it will certainly not be my last.  A must read!
