Review: When I Fall by J Daniels

From NY Times and USA Today bestselling author, J. Daniels, book three in the Alabama Summer series.

For the past nine years, I’ve kept my heart as far away from my dick as possible.

Those two can’t be anywhere near each other. They don’t play nice, and one of them undoubtedly winds up getting hurt.

Not my dick. My dick is good.

The women I take home know exactly what they’re getting from me—sex. Nothing more. At least, that’s what’s supposed to happen. The sweet brunette from Kentucky I set my sights on tonight shouldn’t have been any different. I had her right where I wanted her. Where I needed her. But when my past comes walking into McGill’s pub, the woman in my arms decides to take things to a whole new level, putting me into a situation I never saw coming.

My heart is about to get fucked. My dick can sit this one out.

Warning: this book is recommended for readers over the age of 18 due to strong language and explicit sexual content. When I Fall can be read as a standalone novel.

4 Stars!

Review by Lisa Kane

Reed is a familiar character to us from the first two books in the Alabama Summer series. He's the manwhore; the one and done, the one who had his heart smashed and is not willing to have it happen again.

Beth lost her crack addict mom several months ago and had been living in her car. She was broke and homeless and ended up being picked up by Rocco. In the beginning he seemed to be caring enough and the two shared an intimacy. But then his real, controlling, abusive personality surfaced and Beth was stuck. He constantly told her no one would want her and she believed him. It was when she found out her mother's sister, Hattie, wanted her to come and live with her and her husband, Danny,  that she felt she had a choice

Rocco gave her a hard time about leaving but she couldn't wait to get to Ruxton.  Her relatives own a bar, McGill's Pub, and are the kindest couple and are thrilled to have her with them. The first time she hangs out at the bar Reed hits on her. She feels an immediate connection with him. But she knows a player when she sees one. When Reed's worst nightmare, his ex Molly walks into the bar and comes over to him, Beth feels the need to rescue him. If he was shocked to see Molly, he's just about knocked on his knees when Beth plants a deep, sensual kiss on his lips and pretends to be his girl friend. But what a tangled web is woven when Molly invites the two of them to her engagement part!

Reed tries to avoid Beth but as she meets his other friends seeing each other is unavoidable. The two of them spend a wild, drunken night together and Beth is mortified when Reed can't remember much of the night before. Reed could kick himself for lots of reasons. His memory loss, his attraction to this girl and his scars from Molly.

We get lots of scenes with Mia and Ben, Luke and Tessa and catch up with their lives. One of my favorite things about this series, is being able to continue to read about the couples I love and all the changes going on with them. Even the ones that break your heart. (and there are a few of those in here!)

Will Reed ever be able to trust his heart again and will Beth be the one to make him do it? Can Reed provide Beth the security she craves and let her know that he is the one she has been waiting for? There's lots of delicious angst in this story. Next up is CJ and Riley's  story!
