Cleopatra Paige hates one thing in this world -- just one -- and his
name is Zachariah Prince.

In grade school, he pulled at her pigtails. In middle school, he spread
false rumors about her. And in high school, he ruined her prom.

She hates that his smirks are unfairly sexy. And she definitely loathes
that his dark eyes seem to follow her everywhere. Sometimes, even in her
dreams.

It doesn’t matter that he’s rich and popular or that he lives in a
freaking mansion full of butlers and maids. He’s rude and arrogant, and she
wants to stay as far away from him as possible.

But unfortunately for Cleo, she lives in the same freaking mansion as
Zach.

Only he’s the prince and she’s the lowly maid who serves him.

Review by Jen Skewes

I could not wait to read this one.  From the moment that I started this book I was completely sucked in and could not put this book down.  And that is why I was having a hard time writing this review and rating this book.  While I devoured this book, at the end I was not 100% sure how I felt about it.  A real dilemma.  The writing was great, and I loved the bully aspect of this story and how it all played out. I think for me there were a few issues that just didn’t sit well with me or should I say made me not love the hero as much as I thought I would.

Cleo just lost her parents about a year ago and in order to save her home she needs money.  She starts working for the Princes, the rich family on the north side of town.  Cleo is from the wrong side of the tracks but went to private school and was more or less looked down upon because she wasn’t like them.  She was bullied by Ethan Prince and his crew.  The girls that followed Ethan around also had their chance at putting Cleo down.  But Cleo survived the abide and bullying and seems to be past all of that.  Until she realizes that Ethan Prince is back on town, which means she has to face him and deal with him on a daily basis.   He sat and watched his friends bully her and never once did he do anything to make it stop.  But maybe he changed.  She needs to know why he is back but also wants to give him a taste of his own medicine.

Over time Cleo realizes that maybe there is more to Ethan than just the bully that she grew up knowing. And maybe, there is more between. Ethan warns her to stay away from him, but she doesn’t listen.  She is drawn to him in ways that she does not understand.  But then it all finally clicks, and she sees that things weren’t as she thought them to be.  Ethan is broken in his own way and she will so what she can to help fix him and break the wall that he has up.  It’s a risk, one that may leave her with a broken heart.  Is it all worth it?

As I mentioned earlier, I devoured this book.  I felt the chemistry and connection between Ethan and Cleo.  I think that there was a dark side to the both of them which made the connection even more intense.  Seeing and understanding what Ethan has gone through made it easier to understand him. But I must admit he is a very complex character who at times I didn’t know if I loved or hated.  At times Cleo seemed to be a little immature with the way she handled things but overall, I really enjoyed her character.  I had some issues with certain parts of the book, but I was able to overlook it all because of the rest of this story.  The writing is fantastic, and the characters were written so well. I loved seeing how it all came together, how we truly get deep into Ethan’s character and understand his actions, why he was a bully.  And that is why I loved Cleo because she got it.  She understood and saw the good in him.  I love Ms. Kent’s writing and cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next.
