Blog Tour: One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy

Summary:

New Adult Contemporary Romance

**Mature situations and sexual content - recommended for ages 17+**

Temporary. That one single word best describes my life these last few years. I’m working at a temporary job until I can finally break free. I’m my little brother’s temporary mother since our mom doesn’t give a crap about either of us. And I’m that temporary girl all the guys want to get with because I give it up so easily. According to the rumors, at least.

But now I’m the temporary girlfriend of Drew Callahan, college football legend and all around golden guy. He’s beautiful, sweet—and he’s hiding way more secrets than I am. He’s brought me into this fake life where everyone seems to hate me. And everyone seems to want something from him. The only thing seems to want though is…

Me.

I don’t know what to believe anymore. All I know is, I think Drew needs me. And I want to be there for him.

Forever.

Our 4 star review:

One Week Girlfriend is Monica Murphy's debut novel and she did a wonderful job with the story.  This is the story of two damaged souls rescuing each other.

Drew is gorgeous, rich and the star college football playerEveryone is this small college town knows Drew, and he can have any girl that he wants.  So why does he need to pay someone to be his girlfriend for a week?   Drew has plans to go home for Thanksgiving break and spend it with his father and step-mother.  But Drew is afraid of returning to the home that he has managed to avoid for the last few years.  Going back home will just bring out the demons that he has been trying to ignore from his past.  He cannot face this alone and is willing to pay someone to be his girlfriend  for the week to help distract him and keep his step-mother away.

Fable who is a local girl who works at the local bar where most of the college students hang out.  While most kids her age are busy attending college, Fable is home taking care of her 13 year old brother, while her absentee mother is out getting drunk with her current boyfriend of the week.  So when Drew offers her money to be his girlfriend for one week, she cannot refuse.   But Fable can't help wonder why Drew would ask her to be his fake girlfriend.  They don't exactly have anything in common.  He is this gorgeous, rich, football star and Fable is just trying to make ends meet and take care of her brother.  What Fable doesn't realize is that they have a lot more in common than she thinks, and that there so much more to Drew than meets the eye.

Drew has some very dark secrets that he has been trying to escape, and while as the reader you may guess what those secrets are early on in the book, it does not take away from the emotion that you feel once his secret is out.  Drew is damaged in so many ways that your heart will just break for him.  He has been carrying around such guilt for years because of these secrets.  He hates himself for what he has done and just wants to push all the memories out of his mind.  He begins falling for Fable in a way that he never thought possible.  Given what has happened in his past he tends to keep people at arms length and never thought he deserved to love or be loved.  He never thought loving someone could feel this good.  But he has this overwhelming fear that telling Fable his darkest secret will cause her to run, and losing Fable is not something he wants to risk.

I loved Drew and Fable together.  They are both damaged souls who seem to get each other and need each other.  There relationship started out as one that was fake but by the end of the week there was nothing fake about it.  They have a deep connection that neither one of them has ever felt before.

Fable knows from the minute she meets Drew's family that something is off.  She starts to figure out what has happened in Drew's past.  Much to Drew's surprise, when she does find out the truth, she doesn't go running, but instead wants nothing more than to be by Drew's side and rescue him.  But will Drew let himself be rescued by this amazing girl who he paid to be his girlfriend?  Or will he push her away for good?

One Week Girlfriend is a very intense, emotional, heart wrenching book.  Fable and Drew's story is told in alternating point of views.  The author did a great job connecting the reader to the characters.  This book will break your heart, make you angry and disgusted and shock you all at the same time.  It will also warm your heart to see how Fable will do anything to save Drew from his dark past.  This is an emotional journey, but one that should be taken.  One Week Girlfriend is a must read and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next one.

About the author:
Monica Murphy is a writer, a wife and a mom. She drinks too much coffee and spends too much time in front of her computer. She likes to read, she watches bad reality TV and she sometimes acts younger than she really is. Though most of the time she's sure her kids think she's a complete buzz kill.
One Week Girlfriend, a new adult/contemporary romance, is Monica's first book.

  4. There is nothing better than both main characters being damaged souls. It somehow makes the book so much grittier and they always have to overcome so much more. I've visited all the stops on this blog tour and the reviews are all really positive and so are most of the comments. Apparently Marshmallow is very important because I've heard it mentioned several times now.

  5. I love any kind of love story but when the story involves damaged people who find love it makes it more sweet. I just love a happy ending for them!
