My husband hates me. But he’s also the only man who can save me.

Taken by a stranger, Santiago is my only hope. Except that I don’t know if he’s dead or alive. And for as cruel as he can be, the thought he might be gone is unbearable.

But he has nine lives, my monster.

He’s not finished with me yet. And soon I’m back at The Manor. Locked in my room. At his mercy.

I know I am despised.

I know I have become the face of his vengeance.

But there’s something else too. Something between us. It’s a dark and gnarled thing. And it has its claws around my heart.

Holy Crap!!!!  I thought the first book was intense!!  That was nothing compared to what I just finished reading. My heart was in my throat the entire time.  Afraid to turn each page because I was not sure where this amazing writing du would take me but all anxious to see what happens.  You know those books where it is so intense and raw that you need to take a moment but don’t really want to?  Well, that is how I felt throughout this entire book.  And I loved it!!

We were left hanging in book one.  All we know is that someone tried to kill Santiago and Ivy was taken.  And that is how the book continues.  Exactly where we left off.  I am not going to say another word about wat happens from here, because I do not want to give anything away.

Santiago and Ivy still have that undeniable chemistry. The one that could destroy both of them on so many levels.  One minute this is passion and something as close to love as these two can get and the next minute it is gritty, raw and toxic!!  I do not know which one I love more.  I should hate him. Ivy should hate him, but it is jut impossible to feel that when it comes to Santiago.

This book had me on edge, the entire time.  It was beyond intense, dark and so freakin raw.  Santiago became the true definition of a monster over and over again.  But we also get that glimpse of him where you know he care, where you know that Ivy has completely turned his world upside down and he has no idea what to do with it.

Ivy is still a fighter, but her weakness is her family and at times Santiago. She wants Santiago but hates herself for it.  But for some reason they need each other in a way that neither of them can come to terms with or even understand.  This is what makes their story so compelling.  But it is also what makes it so raw and toxic.  I swear that loving Santiago and feeling a bit of sadness for this man has me questioning myself.  Because some of his actions in this book shocked me.  You think you saw a monster in books 1, just wait.  But then the end you see the side of Santiago that you know is buried so very deep.  And that is why you love him!!

I will be not so patiently waiting for the final book.

With every piece that falls into place for the queen of the Underworld, Kymaris gains strength and power that will make it more difficult to defeat her when the time comes. It feels as if we’re in a desperate race to get just one step ahead of her, but my demise feels closer than it ever has before with still so much to do. The first order of business is to unlock the angelic powers with which I was gifted at birth, and Carrick insists on getting help from my archnemesis to do so. Yes, I have to save the world, but my priority has now become rescuing my sister from the Underworld. While there are many questions still to be answered about my long-lost twin, I know I will not win this battle without her by my side. In the midst of all the doom and gloom, Carrick has become my beacon of shining light. Our connection unimaginable, my heart recognizes his as the other half of its whole. Inexplicable and deeper than one could ever imagine, the love I hold for him is forged by destiny, however ill-fated it may turn out to be. And those are the feelings I must hold close…to keep me going. Because a painful lesson is on the horizon—betrayal never comes from your enemies. A Battle of Blood and Stone is book four of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Initially thought to be myth, the Blood Stone is very much real. The mission now? Find the Blood Stone.

Book four hits the ground running and doesn’t stop until the end, and even then, leaves us wanting more. It’s been two weeks since the God Rune, snatched Carrick away from Finley. Learning that she is Carrick’s reincarnated love who is continuously snatched from his lifetime after time over centuries due to a curse Rune placed upon him has her reeling, and there was no chance for her to ask questions before Carrick was taken.  Although she’s worried for and misses Carrick terribly, the prophecy will still occur, and there’s still much work to be done so Finley continues to team with Maddox, Zaid, Rainey and Myles to learn all they can about Kymaris’ plans. The “Scooby-Gang”, has also been working with Zaid’s father, Boral (who everyone is skeptical of, but he could prove to be very helpful).

Once Carrick returns, he gives Finley the background on her former lives and what happened between the two of them. Finley and Carrick aren’t the only two who has developments in relationships. With Carrick missing, Finley and Zaid’s relationship also grows, and we see a different side of Zaid as well. I’ve like Zaid from the beginning, but this book really gave my heart a soft spot for him. His commitment and dedication to Finley was no longer due to his loyalty to Carrick. Finley has become family to him.

As the time grows closer for Kymaris’ ritual to take place, Carrick realizes they really need to kick into high gear to make sure Finley is as prepared as she can be. While she’s been training tirelessly, she still needs more, so Carrick enlists the one person no one expects, Deandra who proves to be more helpful than Finley thought.

There’s also Finley’s determination to connect with her sister, Zora, in the underground which she does manage to do again, but Zora is very resistant to Finley and wants nothing to do with her.

We also get a glimpse of Lucien’s past which is directly related to the Blood Stone needed to help defeat Kymaris. The group obtains the Blood Stone at a costly price, and then goes to drastic measures to slow Kymaris down which means they must all separate and basically go into hiding to stay safe. While in hiding, Finley learns that while her team has formed unlikely alliances, so has Kymaris. Unfortunately for Finley, she learns of this alliance a little too late and can only hope that Carrick can come to her rescue.

With each book, this story truly gets better and better, and leads to more and more questions. I’m curious about Finley’s past lives, was she a twin in each life? If not, was it intentional that she was a twin in this life? So many other backgrounds were given, does this mean there might be novellas or spin off series? Especially for Lucien. Will Ronan and Eilana show up in the fourth book? Will there be more to their story? What more will we learn about Zora; will she have a story of her own?

I’m almost sad the last book is coming up because I don’t want it to end. I mentioned before about previous books not focusing so much on the relationship of Carrick and Finley and how it didn’t bother me, but I’m so glad it finally came to light. The evolution and the buildup of Finley and Carrick’s love is beautifully told and written.

Review Tour: Goldilocks by Jay Crownover

For Olivia Adams, the world has always been too big or too small.
Forced to live her life caught between what she wanted for herself and the unfair choices and crazy obsession of those around her for as long as she could remember, Ollie has always felt confined and trapped. It was hard for her to imagine a future beyond the crushing control of those who wanted to make sure she paid the price for her role in a tragic accident that ruined several young lives. However, having no hope and living in a constant state of fear never stopped Ollie from dreaming of different ways to break free and how to reunite with the one person who always made her feel safe. Huck is the only one who ever made her feel like there was a place in his world, right by his side, that would fit her just right.

The world has always forced Huck Snyder to be a guy who runs either too hot or too cold.
Unwanted and barely tolerated, his temper burned hot and bright, often leading him into trouble. After the accident, he was tossed out, disowned, and forced to fend for himself. Struggling to survive, Huck quickly realized the only way he would make it was to freeze out every single memory and moment from his past. Especially those surrounding Ollie. He allowed his heart to harden into a block of ice and refused to let anyone close enough to melt it. Years have passed, and Huck has adjusted to the constant cold that permeates through his new life. He was in no way prepared for the only girl who could ever control his inner fire to show back up. Ollie is on the run and doesn't seem to mind the chilly reception she receives when she shows up unannounced on Huck's doorstep.
Fire and ice no longer define Huck because when he's with Ollie, it's easy to remember that the temperature between the two of them has always been just right.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Two brothers, one the prodigal son, one the bastard son, both under a spell by the same girl.

Olivia Adams, with her golden curly locks, just wants to find a place in the world where she fits. Growing up on an estate where her mother worked for the very affluent Richman family, she enjoyed the perks of a roof over her head, food in her belly and the best school, but she was not a true part of that world. What helped her get through her early years was Huck Snyder, the illegitimate son of Mr. Richman. He was her best friend, at least he was until the day she chose his half-brother Sawyer. A choice that proved to be the worst mistake of her life, and kept her under the thumb of an unstable, obsessive control freak. Ollie has finally managed to break away from Sawyer and she runs straight to Huck, but the Huck she once knew is long gone and this new version wants nothing to do with her.

Huck Snyder has spent his entire life as an outsider. Abandoned by his mother, he was raised in his father’s home alongside his half-brother who envies him and hates him. His stepmother resents him and hates him. His father simply ignores him. The only person that’s ever made him feel worthy is Ollie. While he’s always served as her protector, she’s what kept him grounded. Until the day when an almost fatal accident has her choosing Sawyer over him. Cast away from the only home he’s ever known, Huck spends the next few years building his new life. He’s estranged from his blood family, but he’s found another family the fits him better. He has done everything he could to move on with his life and his past until Ollie shows up on his doorstep.

I’m not a fan of love triangles, or angst and this book kind of had both. The triangle in this book is slightly different because you really only experience two-thirds of the triangle. The final third of the triangle is mostly referred to. This was a quick read, but I struggled a bit with it because it wasn’t quite what I thought it was going to be, or what I’m used to from Jay Crownover, but that’s more of a “me” thing and has nothing to do with Jay. While I figured it wouldn’t be like her other series, I thought it might be more along the lines of “Recovered”. It wasn’t too far off from it though.

It’s not often the title of a book has much of an impact on me regarding the storyline, but for this particular one…the two just didn’t fit for me. The storyline in general was pretty good, and I was immediately sucked in; but at some point, it took a bit of a turn that didn’t quite hold my interest.  The story starts off with Ollie tracking Huck down and attempting to become a roommate in a house that he shares with his best friend and Huck’s total disdain for her due to an incident in their past. He insists that her presence is nothing good and can put them all in danger; and that fine, because it gives way to the element of mystery.

Then there's Ollie, who is determined to make amends with Huck, and basically insinuates that she’s afraid for her life. Again, totally fine because that adds to the mystery. Where it gets difficult for me is the revelation of the big incident and the domino effect it has- specifically Ollie; it’s like Huck’s attitude towards her changes too quickly and things kind of happen at a rapid speed from that point on. I liked the “who-done-it” element of the story line, but I felt like the resolution and ending were a bit rushed.

I actually liked the characters. I immediately connected to Huck and I felt like the chemistry between he and Ollie was really good (even when Huck was hating on her), and I was happy that it was told from both the POV's of Huck and Ollie. Something I always enjoy, are the supporting characters that contribute to the storyline and are interesting enough that you begin to wonder about their back story. Definitely loved Vernon. Harlnn seemed like a pretty interesting guy, but I could have used a little more background on him. I’m even curious about the former roommate Fisher. I wasn’t all that crazy about Ollie’s friend Mercer, but she wasn’t horrible.

I’m a big Jay Crownover fan, and I think I’ve read pretty much all of her books. While this isn’t my favorite, I still enjoyed it.

Something that gave me much amusement throughout the book, and I’m not sure if it was intentional or not but; Huck, and his brother Sawyer…. mortal enemies. Tom Sawyer, and Huckleberry Finn…. best buds.

Title: Not Pretending Anymore
Authors: Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 12, 2021

BLURB

Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds.
I was starting to lose hope.
Until a knock at my door came and God answered my prayers.
Except…uh…wrong prayer, God.
I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate.
Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway.
While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined.
Then cupcakes showed up at my door—freshly baked by Declan and just as sinfully delicious as he was.
You could say he was persistent.
I eventually folded. It wasn’t like I had another viable candidate anyway.
Plus, I was interested in someone else. And Declan was into another woman. So it wasn’t like anything would happen romantically.
After he moved in, the two of us became the best of friends. We even started to give each other advice on getting our crushes to notice us.
Eventually, Declan concocted an idea: we should pretend to be a couple to make our love interests jealous.
I was hesitant, but went along with it anyway. To my utter shock, his crazy plan worked.
Now I was dating the supposed man of my dreams, and my best friend had the woman of his.
But there was one problem.
I couldn’t stop thinking about Declan.
Those feelings we were trying to fake?
Yeah…I wasn’t pretending anymore.

Review by Lisa Kane

A roommate romance-what another one? I have to admit I didn't dive into this one head first eager to flip the pages. Lately, it seems as though there are a million roommate romances. But....this one stands out.

Molly Corrigan is looking for a roommate. She's interviewed tons of applicants and somehow, something is always off with them. When D Tate arrives for an interview-surprise, Declan Tate is most assuredly all male. Not what Molly had in mind. He's gorgeous, funny, charming and  he can cook but...she is looking for a female roommate to help with the rent. Declan does his best to impress Molly but this hunk can't change his sex so this interview isn't going anywhere. But a mind can be changed by lousy applicants and a dozen fabulous tasting cupcakes.

Declan is thrilled Molly is letting him move in. He's in advertising, makes great money and is only staying for six months while on assignment for work. Besides, part of the reason Molly let him move in, is that he is interested in a co-worker- Julia. She's dating someone else, and that makes her hands off, but she doesn't seem happy with him and Declan thinks she might just be single sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, Molly has her eyes on an OB/GYN at work. She's a maternity nurse and sees Will at work all the time. Their timing just never seems to work out, but he just broke up with his girl friend and Molly thinks maybe something will finally happen with them. So far, she's coming up short.

Part of her new roommate's charm is his ability to give great advice. Strange, often crazy advice but it does seem to work. So she's been asking Declan for his advice on how to snag Will's attention. He comes up with a scheme that just might benefit both of them-what if they pretend they are interested in each other? People seem to want what they can't have and if Will and Julia think that Molly and Declan aren't available-well there you go, game over!

And it does seem to be working, but what happens if in the course of pretending that one or both of them develop real feelings for the other? Not Pretending Anymore is witty and original and at times a little angsty. All the key ingredients for a yummy meal that you can sink your teeth into-it's an easy read with well developed characters who are a little vulnerable. Your protective side will come out-you don't want them to get hurt. Even if it's by the other person in the story whom you love. The Ward/Keeland writing duo has done it again!

He's my brother's best friend.

The hot guy with the heart of gold I've never let myself want.

Guys like Dean don't go for girls like me.

Curvy. Thick. A big girl. Whatever label you put on it, I know who I am and what it means. And that's fine. I'm content to be Dean's buddy and nothing more.

Or so I thought. When Dean finds out about my bedroom issues and decides to help me fix them, everything changes.
He swears there's no such thing as "bad in bed" and pleasure is all about chemistry. I'm not convinced, but he intends to prove it. With his mouth. With his body. With his dirty texts and whispered promises.

I know from the first kiss that I'm going to fall hard. That this can't last, and the end might break me. But, for these days with Dean, all the hurt might be worth it.

Review by Jen Skewes

I love this series and was so excited to read Dean and Abbi’s story. We met them earlier on in the series.

Dean is best friends with Abbi’s brother but she’s also best friends with his sister. They basically grew up together. Abbi is a curvy girl who has some issues with her confidence, especially in the bedroom. In her mind she is just bad in bed. Her ex-boyfriend did a real number on her and has making dating difficult for her. He basically stripped her of any confidence she had.

Dean has never been a relationship type of guy. But with Amy he was wanted more, but she dumped him because they both weren’t on the same page. Right now, he’s mending a broken heart because of it. So, Dean and Abbi make an agreement. She will help him get over Amy and he will help her with not just her confidence but teach=h her how to be  good in bed. Two friends enjoy spending time together now become two friends with benefits and no strings. What could possibly happen??? You’ll have to read to find out.

What I really loved about this book was Abbi. I related to her for so many reasons. I truly understood her and feelings. It’s not often that an author writes a love story about a hot guy and a curvy woman. So, I love it when they do.

Dean was hit and sexy but sweet as well. If I’m being honest I did not get the whole Amy thing. I didn’t understand the why of it or how anyone was ok with it. But more importantly why he was so hung up one her. Seeing how Dean really felt about Abbi and what happened on her 21st Birthday made me question

so much which did frustrate me.  But then it all clicked for me and it all made so much sense. As least my head. Lol

I truly loved this book. Aside from him getting over his ex this man was absolutely perfect. He promised to help Abbi with her Confidence, but it truly came from a place of love and want.  There was so much chemistry between these two. I Think she helped him Get over his past and the issues he had with himself. While he made her feel

Beautiful and like she could do and be who she wanted. They both had their own issues with confidence or feeling worthy of love. But together they truly helped each find themselves and love themselves.

I’m hoping this is not the end of this series because we need Smithy’s story. This is fantastic

Series. As always Ms. Ryan makes you feel. It was sweet, sexy with just the right amount of drama and angst. Hoping their will be more
