He’s the quiet brooding guy who’s
owned my heart since I was sixteen but has refused to claim it.
I’m the naïve woman who believes
that someday our time will come.
I just didn’t realize that someday
would include waking up in Vegas with a raging hangover and a ring on my
finger.
If we believed in fate, maybe one
of us would’ve trusted that something more powerful than ourselves interceded
because our love is one of tangled vines. As twisted and frayed as they’ve
become over the years, they’ve never broken.
An annulment seemed like the easy
way out. We should’ve known it wouldn’t be fate that intervened, but our
Italian Mamas. They can deliver Oscar-worthy performances when heaping on the
guilt.

We thought it’d be easy to pretend
to be a happily married couple in front of our families for three months and
then say we gave it our best shot and go our separate ways.
But nothing is easy when it comes
to Dominic Mancini and me. Nothing. to pretend

This is Dominic Mancini’s story, the one that I have been waiting for. We have met Dom in the prior installments. He’s the brooding, workaholic brother who is also a bit of a mystery when it comes to his love life. Work has always been his number one priority and for that reason he has never really been in a relationship. But that doesn’t mean he’s never been in love, even if he has yet to admit it.
Dom and Valentina have a history that goes as far back as their teenage years. You can say that these two were always meant to be together, but just when things seem to be going in the right direction, a decision is made, causing their life to take unexpected turns that changes what they have. They have been on and off for years, with Dom stepping aside when it was necessary. But their relationship was never serious, regardless of their feelings for each other. But with their recent break up, they haven’t seen each other in months. When they both happen to be in Vegas at the same time, Dom and Val do what they do best together. They spend the night together, dancing around their feelings. Everyone knows that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But what happens when you wake up and part of the night is a blur? Only to remember that the woman in your bed is no longer your ex or your friend, but she is now your wife? Oh, and the “what happens in Vegas” rule, is not happening when your brother who can’t keep a secret to save his life finds out who the mystery wife really is!! But no big deal right? They will just get an annulment, and all will be in the past. Wrong!!! Add in two meddling Italian mothers and these two find themselves in a marriage that they now need to work on. Will they both realize that they were meant to end up here, or will they continue to deny their feelings?
There is no denying the intense chemistry between Val and Dom. But there is also no denying that these two love each other, no matter how hard they try to keep their feelings hidden. Dom knows deep down how he feels about Val, but he doesn’t ever want to hurt her and still feels after all these years that he cannot give her what he wants. Work is and has always been his priority. And this is where he became so frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, Val was frustrating as well for her own reasons. So together they had a tendency to make my head spin. But Dom was stubborn and loved his job, but I also think he was scared, of getting hurt and hurting Val. Their ability to hide their feelings, sweep them under the rug like they don’t exist, the back and forth, just drove me crazy. But in a good way.
Val on the other hand could never say no when it comes to Dom and there were times where I wanted her to say no. I wanted her to not give in so easily. I loved Dom but at times I wanted to smack some sense in him, I wanted him to see that while he tried so hard not to hurt Val, he was. I liked him but it wasn’t until about 70% where I truly started to love him, because while he wore his heart on his sleeve he also guarded it. And for once you see the side of Dom that you have been waiting for. You know that he is an amazing man and truly loves Val, but seeing it is what made all the difference.
This book was an emotional roller coaster and honestly draining…lol. The back and forth between Val and Dom, learning of their past and what happened between them, and the ups and downs just tore at your heart. Everyone knew that they were meant to be together. You felt the love and passion between the two of them, but waiting for them to see it, well that was the emotional part of this book. It was sweet, sexy, had the right amount of drama and angst. A second chance romance that I absolutely loved!!! And a writing duo who know how to suck you in. Another fantastic read from Piper Rayne.
