Release Blitz: Code Name: Rook by Sawyer Bennett

Code Name: Rook (Jameson Force Security, Book #6) Sawyer Bennett Release Date: October 27, 2020

Synopsis: Being a highly skilled operative for a company like Jameson Force Security is exhilarating and important work…until it comes time to date. I like to keep my profession under wraps for a number of reasons. Some of what we do is top secret, most of what we do is dangerous, and more than one woman has tried to latch onto me because she was more enamored with what I do than who Cage Murdock really is. And since I’m more of a ‘here for the night’ than a ‘here for forever’ kind of guy, what’s the harm in a little white lie about my job? My harmless deceit has never failed me. Until now. Because I met the most amazing woman and did the unthinkable. I married her. And now my beautiful, unsuspecting, probably-going-to-leave-my-sorry-behind-when-she-finds-out-the-truth wife doesn’t know that I’m not a used car salesman like I told her when we met. As it typically does with lies, the truth is about to come out in a big way when Jaime unwittingly gets herself mixed up with some unsavory characters and I, along with the team at Jameson, have to intervene. Now I need to save my girl and hope I can save my marriage too. Let’s just say I have some serious explaining to do.

Review by Trinette Dungee

While being a Navy SEAL isn’t a piece of cake, for Cage Murdock it’s something he was good at. Having left his SEAL days behind, he’s joined forces with Jameson Security and he’s damned good at that too. He’s also good at dodging relationships, he’s not a “forever” type of guy, more like a “for the night”. What he’s not good at however is recovering from a lie he told when he meets Jaime Dolan. Just hanging out in a bar one night trying to wind down from his latest mission he’s approached by Jaime and spends the night with her. He finds himself asking her number and planning date after date with her. By the time he realizes Jaime could actually be the one he has to figure out how to explain who he is and what he does, but as time goes on his lie digs him deeper and deeper.

Jaime Dolan just wanted a night out with the girls to blow off some steam. The last thing she expected was to approach the sexy guy at the bar and end up bringing her home with him; and she definitely never expected him to ask for her number the next morning so he could take her out, that’s not how one-night-stands work, but she gives used car salesman, Cage Murdock, her number and so the big fall begins between the two of them.

While Rook is primarily about Cage trying to reveal his lie to Jaime without loosing her, it’s not without its cloak and dagger. Insert Jaime’s older brother Brian who can’t seem to get his life together and ultimately puts Jaime’s life in danger. While Brian’s not the most savory or characters, I kinda wonder if there’s a story somewhere in there.

I can’t remember off the top of my head the book where Cage Murdock was introduced (we saw a lot of him in “ghost” but I feel like he was sprinkled in someone else’s story prior to “Ghost), but what I do remember was thinking “oh, he’s the guy in this series. He’s that guy that’s going to pop up again and again and by the time his book comes out I’m going to want to devour it” and devour it I did. I simply loved this guy! Cage is that good-natured fun- loving guy that you can easily see as a brother (this was most evident in his relationship with Anna), then suddenly, he turns into this complete bad ass. It’s like he has a switch where he can turn it on an off at will. At one point I was very afraid that his storyline would be him being secretly in love with Anna while she was falling for someone else and that just wasn’t gonna work for me because I knew she wasn’t the woman for him. I panicked for no reason and Jamie was PERFECT for him! These two together were sooooo good! I like Jaime a lot. She was such a “regular” person. In most of the storylines both characters have some sort of (for lack of a better term) wild background. Even Anna was ex-military, but Jaime was someone you’d meet on the street in everyday life.

Ghost and Rook happen simultaneously so there’s some overlapping, but one storyline doesn’t take away from the other. What I really liked was how some of the scenes that happened between Cage and Anna or Cage and Malik that happened in Ghost popped up again in Rook and we got to see it from Cage’s perspective, we saw the wheels turning in his head.

I’m pretty sure the Jameson Saga is far from over as we are introduced to some new member such as Jackson Gale (he kinda seems like a butthead, but time will tell), and Ladd McDermott. We also meet a new FBI Clay Brandeis, who seems to have a connection to the resident therapist Dr. Corinne Ellery not sure if that’s going to be another Jameson storyline or if a new series is in the making, or a storyline connected to an older series with FBI agents. The possibilities are endless.

Bottom line, I had fun with this book!

Review Tour: Happily Letter After by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward

Title: Happily Letter After
Authors: Vi Keeland & Penelope Ward
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 20, 2020

BLURB

From New York Times bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes a love story about taking chances and the surprises that come with them.

My love story all started with a letter.

Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for.

You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months.

So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far.

While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father. Her devastatingly handsome, single dad father.

I should have stopped playing fairy godmother then. I should have left well enough alone. But I just couldn’t help myself. I had a connection to this girl. One that had me acting irrationally.

Like when I showed up on their doorstep.

Review by Lisa Kane

The writing duo of Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward never fail to entertain. They can write humor, drama and a combo of the two. That’s what Happily Letter After is-a combo of funny and serious heart ache.

Sadie is a journalist in New York and loves her job. Around the holidays her column features Christmas Wishes where she “helps” out Santa with granting wishes. But it’s months past the holiday and she receives a very special letter from Birdie Maxwell. Birdie is ten years old and isn’t sure she believes in Santa any longer. See she asked him to save her mom from dying from cancer, but she still died. So she’s giving it one more try and allowing lots of time for Santa to grant this wish in time for next Christmas. She wants Santa to send a special friend for her dad so he will laugh more. And if that friend can do braids that would be super cool. Her dad tries, but he stinks at it. She also asked for olives (she wears them on her fingers while watching TV and socks for her dad-his have holes in them.

Sadie can relate to this little girl. She also lost her mom when she was little. So she buys a braid and some socks and sends them. You can guess Birdie’s reaction. Sadie has unknowingly set off a chain of events and opened up a door with Birdie.

I won’t go into detail but things keep getting more complicated. Sadie finds herself stalking Birdie and her dad. (and you can betcha he is gorgeous!) Before you know it, Sadie is impersonating a newly hired dog trainer!

But things slowly build between Sadie and Sebastian. Complicated things. Now there is nothing more than I love than being taken off guard. I love when something happens and I think, “huh, didn't see that coming!” There are a few of those in this book and boy are they delicious!

I devoured this book, my fingers flew through my Kindle like the wind through the trees. I had to know where this was going. Was I tempted to read the ending? Of course, but I made myself show some restraint (not happily mind you!) and read in order.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! Kudos to my favorite writing partners!

Cover Reveal: Date Me Like You Mean It by RS Grey

R.S. Grey’s next standalone romcom, Date Me Like You Mean It, is coming out November 5th! Check it out and be sure to grab yours November 5th!

Title: Date Me Like You Mean It

Author: R.S. Grey

Genre: Rom-Com

Release Date: November 5th

About Dare Me Like You Mean It:

I’m good at hiding my feelings. Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend? Pfft. That’s child’s play. Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink. Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend. Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it. Except he veered from the plan. He crossed the line. Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?! I’d ask him about it if I could, but well…things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore. In fact, we’re the exact opposite. Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand. Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part. Pretending not to hate him? Well…I might need a little more practice.

Release Blitz: Our Star Crossed Kissed by Piper Rayne

Release Date: October 13

She’s got two strikes against her.
Her name is Erickson and her parents own The Bagel Place.

It wasn’t always that way. When we were nine, we were best friends. But then a feud between our dads ripped their successful business apart—and my best friend was ripped away too.

Our paths were bound to cross again. When both our families vie for the same spot on a Food Channel’s reality show, the producers decide to change the format, aligning us as allies.

In order to get our parents to agree to work together, Evan asks me to pretend to be her boyfriend, but I dare her to up the ante—be my fiancée. Fake fiancée… obviously.

As usual, I didn’t think things through. Turns out our parents have a lot of demands neither one of us expected.  And all those demands lead to things feeling more real than fake.

Review by Jen Skewes

This is Seth and Evan’s story.  I think next to Dylan and Riann, this was the couple that I was really looking forward to.  I think the fact that they were once best friends turned enemies is what intrigued me the most.  There is so much animosity between their families and while these two appear to hate each, I think we all know that it is just the opposite for these star-crossed lovers.

Evan has given up her dreams and basically any life she had to help her family run their bagel store.  It’s not where she saw herself at 29 years old, but her family means everything and right now they need her help.

Seth is somewhat in the same position as Evan.  While he runs his own boudoir photographer business, he is also involved in his family business as well because of his brother.  While his dream is to  become a photographer, taking pictures of half-naked woman is not exactly what his plan was.  When an opportunity presents itself for both bagel shops to be on TV, Seth and Evan come together and form a plan, one that will hopefully help both shops and at the same time allow these two to step away from the family business and do what they want to do.  But is faking an engagement really going to help out their parents pr will it just cause a broken heart in the end?

Evan appears to hate Seth just as much as he hates her.  But that “hate” stems from the feud between their parents.  And I think from the beginning you could see that these two had anything but hate for each other.  They were once the best of friends, forced apart by their parents.  Evan may not want to get up early every morning to make bagels but regardless, she seems to handle it well.  She kind, sweet and just that type of heroine that you love.

Seth is protective, sexy, fun and witty.  But there is so much more to him, and I loved that Piper and Rayne explored that deeper side to him.  He uses humor to push aside his emotions and trust me when you peel back those layers and see the more emotional side of Seth, you will fall for him even more.  I personally loved his sexy and witty banter.  It is who he is and one of the many reasons for loving him.

Our Star-Crossed Kiss was perfectly written, and filled with humor, hotness and some emotional moments as well.  The rooftop gang is very much a part of this book.  I love seeing this group of friends come together, it is nothing but fun times.  So much so that you feel a part of their inner circle.  Seth and Evan were so good together.  You felt their connection from the start.  And regardless of how they were supposed to feel towards each other, you knew that the connection they had long ago was still there and was now more than just feelings of friendship.  They just both had a hard time admitting it for fear that it wasn’t reciprocated.  I love this series.  And if you love it as much as I do, you will love Seth and Evan together.  I cannot wait for Knox’s story!!

Release Blitz: Every Sweet Regret by Lexi Ryan

New York Times bestselling author Lexi Ryan brings you

Every Sweet Regret, a sexy standalone romance about a single dad

and the reformed party girl who's loved him all her life.

Her brother's best friend. Her lifelong crush. Her sweetest regret.

For as long as I can remember, Kace Matthews has been my brother's best friend and my not-so-secret crush. But I knew nothing would ever happen between us. The successful single dad doesn't fall for the hot mess party girl. Kace + Stella exists in the doodles in my high school notebooks and in my dreams. Never in real life.

Until he finds me on a hookup app and starts flirting shamelessly.

It turns out high school Stella was not prepared for Kace Matthews. Adult Stella isn't much better, but I manage to break down the walls to show Kace the real me--not just the life-of-the-party exterior, but the vulnerable pieces I hide from the world. Combine that with the combustible chemistry we have in real life, and I'm a goner.

Too bad it takes me so long to realize Kace doesn't know I'm the girl he's been falling for online. Telling him the truth now that he knows my secrets could mean losing everything, and that's one regret that could break me.

Review by Jen Skewes

I loved Kace and Stella’s love story.  This book brought out so many emotions, but for a good part of this book I was completely frustrated, in a really good way.  It was the frustration and angst made me devour this book in one sitting.  I simply could not put it down.  I ignored life as much as I possibly could just so I could spend all my time with Kace and Stella.

Kace is a single dad who is recently divorced.  While he has always seen Stella and how beautiful she is, he is still dealing with his unresolved feelings for his ex.  He still is not sure how his marriage fell apart and blames himself.  He is not looking for a relationship at all, but knows he needs to move on.  His ex-wife signs him up for Random, a dating/hook-up site, which he really has no interest in.  But one night he decides to take a look at the app and swipes on the profile with the intriguing avatar, having no clue who he is really talking to.

Stella has been in love with her brother’s best friend for as long as she can remember.  And while this may have started as just a crush, it has turned into so much more for her.  She is the wild child who makes some questionable decisions.  But she is trying to get her life back on track and put her past behind her.  When swipes on her Random profile she is so excited and for the first time feels like maybe this could work between them, that maybe there really is something between them.

Kace is torn between his attraction to Stella and the connection he feels towards the woman online who he has been talking to.  He wants Stella physically bit knows that they can never be anything more than casual.  He feels like he has a deep connection with the woman online, she’s someone he can share his feelings with.  But he is not one to string along two woman.  Stella knows that she has been talking to Kace this entire time but has no idea that he thinks it is some other woman.  When the truth comes out, including Stella’s deepest secret, will it ruin everything?

This book frustrated me on so many levels, but not in a bad way.  I think Kace going back and forth with his feelings for Stella and not wanting anything more than casual, but at the same time knowing in some way that he wants more with her, drove me crazy.  It made me feel so bad for Stella in the sense that she has loved this man forever, and now he finally has an interest in her, but it seems like unrequited love, and in the end it will be her who gets hurt.  But I think that he was honestly oblivious at times to what was right in front of him.

The drama, the angst, sexy banter, the feeling of being on pins and needles until the truth finally comes out is what made this book so hard to put down!!.  I was glued to my phone, feeling like my children when they walk around the house with their phones attached to them.  I hated Kace’s ex-wife, it hurt to see him appear to still have feelings for her.  But I loved every moment when he was with Stella ad how much you could feel wheat he really f felt for her, even if he could not admit it.  From the moment the truth came out, my heart was in my throat the entire time until the end.  I loved getting to see all the other characters we loved from book one.  They are back and the shenanigans and fun times continue.  This book was angsty, hot, fun, heart breaking at times, but so worth every emotion!  I cannot wait for the next one.  I miss these characters already.

Famous by Association by Leddy Harper

Title: Famous by Association
Author: Leddy Harper
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 30, 2020

BLURB

I’d spent years separating myself from my twin sister in every possible way. Until one day, I was offered a lot of money to pretend to be her.

It was supposed to be easy.
Look like her, dress like her, act like her. Don’t make friends, don’t be nice, and don’t fall in love. Get in and get out.

But I should’ve known that it wouldn’t be that simple. Being Tiffany Lewis’s twin sister was hard enough...beingTiffany Lewis was much, much worse.

A famous twin, a hunky neighbor who could ruin it all, and a film crew...what could possibly go wrong?

Everything. Everything could go wrong.
Horribly wrong.

4 Stars

Review by Jen Skewes

I always look forward to a Leddy Harper book.  Throughout the last couple of years while reading her books, she has obliterated my heart, made me ugly cry, made me laugh and smile.  With each book of hers I read; I manage to fall for yet another one of her heroes.  Some of her books are light funny reads while others are filled with drama and angst.  I have loved them all and Famous by Association is no different.  It is exactly what I needed.  It was a fun, light and quick read that I managed to read in one sitting.  At one point I looked at the location of the book and couldn’t believe I only had 20% left.

Tasha lives with her best friend Dave and has a twin sister who she hardly speaks to.  Growing up her sister tortured  and embarrassed her.  When a strange man shows up at her door she is not sure what to do.  Especially when she finds out exactly who she is.  Ty is her sister’s assistant.  Apparently some botched plastic surgery has left her sister in the hospital instead of starting the new reality show that she signed up for.  So, Ty and her sister come up with this brilliant idea to have Tasha pretend to be her sister.  They may look exactly alike bit these two are complete polar opposite.  Tasha is sweet and kind while Tiffany is a complete bitch.  Tosh has no plan to pretend to play the role of her sister, until Ty sweetens the pot, not allowing her to refuse.

No one can know about their plan, especially the hot neighbor next door.  Which is hard considering the is totally attracted to him and she enjoys pending time with him.  When he does find out the truth will he go along with this entire plan so he can keep seeing Tasha or will he make her life miserable?

Tasha and Jacoby could not have been more perfect for each other.  Since the moment they met, even though he didn’t know her true identity, I felt the connection.  Between the flirty and sarcastic banter, the physical connection and the fact that they are both genuinely nice people, I knew that they belonged with each other.  Tasha is beautiful even if she may not see herself that way. She is confident n who she is.  I honestly related to her on so many levels, the sarcasm, being best friends with a guy, not all glam and glitz like her sister.  I loved her!!  And I especially loved the friendship she had with her best friend Dave, how they knew each other better than anyone.  Jacoby was not just nice to look at, he had a heart.  He was fun, sweet and the kind of guy that you cannot help but love.

Famous by Association was a fun and light read, that didn’t have that unnecessary drama.  Most of the dram came from the sister who you loved to hate!!  It made me laugh and smile throughout most of the book.  It was quirky and light and I loved it.  I loved the supporting characters; they each had their own way about them, and they all managed to make me laugh.  The connection between Jacoby and Tasha was perfect  and I even fell for Adam even if we only really saw him for a small amount of time.  Another great one from Ms. Harper.

EXCERPT

We were face to face, and the room was still rather dim due to the storm that still raged beyond the window. I was very much aware that we were alone. No one could see us, no one could judge us; it was just him and me.

So I went for it.

Using my grip on his shirt, I tugged him closer while pushing up on my tiptoes, bringing our mouths together. It was soft and hesitant at first, but then I got a taste of him, and damn, was I hungry for more.

He brought his hands to my waist, which caused me to hesitate for a moment because I thought he was about to push me away. But when I felt him tighten his grip and pull my body against his, I knew it was safe to keep going.

His tongue slipped past my lips while I threaded my fingers through his hair.

We took one step back. Then another. Then another until he was sat on the sofa, my knees on either side of his hips. It was hot, and steamy, and sexy, and everything else I thought it would be. The one thing I didn’t expect was for it to be short lived.

And unfortunately, it was very short lived.

Out of nowhere, Jacoby pushed me away. Not just pushed me away, but he physically lifted my body off his lap and set me down on the cushion next to him. “Tiffany…” Talk about a mood kill; calling me by my evil sister’s name was like dousing me with below-freezing water. “You’re engaged.”

I didn’t need to hear any more. That was enough for me.

I got up and rounded the couch, not bothering to think about anything other than getting the heck out of there. I didn’t care if I left anything behind; I could replace it. What I couldn’t replace, though, was my dignity.

He called after me, but I ignored him as I opened the door and took off in the torrential downpour. Thunder rumbled all around me, the sky lit up like the Fourth of July, but that didn’t stop me. I didn’t care. I just wanted to leave. I wanted to get home.

I didn’t want to be Tiffany freaking Lewis anymore.
