She’s locked up tight. But he might be the key.

Logan Reed is tall, tatted and tempting.
Kit’s a woman with a mean right hook and a secret.

Kit wants a tattoo, but Logan sees more than she intends to share in the drawing of the tat she wants. He sees her in ways no one ever has.

Logan’s not disabled; but he hasn’t spoken in eight years. He hasn’t needed to.
Until he meets Kit.

Logan doesn’t know everything about Kit. Kit doesn’t know anything about herself,
until she has to sacrifice all she ever wanted to save what’s most important to him.

4 Star Review By Lisa Kane

Kit lives on the streets. Why, we don’t know, but she plays her guitar and busking for money. Logan Reed is a tattoo artist who lost his hearing as a result of a high fever. Up until his illness he could hear so he can speak, but chooses not to since his few attempts at speech led to nothing but humiliation. He lives with his four brothers and is something of a player (an understatement).  His lack of ability to hear has never been an issue in picking up women.

Their paths cross when Kit brings in most of the money she has to get an intricate design tattooed on her. She has the drawing in her hand and shows it to Logan to see if he can do it. Only Logan is a flirt and this time he messes with the wrong woman. After his hands roam where they shouldn’t she punches him in the nose and leaves without getting her drawing back. Logan is less upset about his nose and more upset at the fact that this girl, if her drawing is anything to go by, lives in a whole world of pain, and he just added to it.

Not long after, Logan sees Kit playing in the subway for money. He throws her a $20 and convinces her to have lunch with him. Although she has a hard time understanding him, she tries to read what he is writing down. That is another revelation about Kit. There are reading problems, and she won’t reveal her real identity. Logan opens up and lets her know he can speak somewhat so they can communicate. Why these two people confide some of their secrets to each other isn’t clear to them yet.

A lack of space at the homeless shelters leads to Kit spending the night at Logan’s. Although he has spent his life as an endless parade of one night stands, Logan backs off. Kit meets the rest of the Reed family. There’s his older brother Paul, who stepped up to the plate when their father took off after their mother’s death, his brother Matt, who is on his last ditch round of chemo and his two younger twin brothers Pete and Sam.

Kit and Logan slowly form a relationship and a genuine love for one another. But can Kit ever trust her secrets to Logan. What happens when fate steps in and Kit’s desires must come second?

I really enjoyed this one. I felt as though I was very familiar with the Reed family and felt a connection. Each of these individuals has known loss and sorrow. I found myself wanting to know more about the Reeds and their stories. This was an enjoyable book and I am looking forward to continuing their journeys.
